Who do you think is the better commentator - Michael Cole or JR?
Also, who do you think is the best commentator of all time?
I'll post my answers later.

Despite his cliches, Jim Ross is still the best in the biz. And of all time.

Personally I never thought that the announcers made a big difference in the show. Furthermore, as far as they go, I think a lot of people have mistakenly overrated JR quite a bit, probably because he was part of the big attitude era boom and just so happened to be the head commentator at the time. They could have had anyone in that chair and the outcome would have been the same. The only thing that really matters is whether or not they know what they are calling. Now I've always thought Tenay really knew his wrestling. Maybe some didn't think he could deliver it in words as well as others, but you can tell he knows what he's talking about. It really pissed me off when Tony Schaivonne and Heenan would screw up names and such towards the end of WCW's days.

Jim Ross. I feel the main issue with him and Lawler wasn't soo much JR occasionally saying something random but Lawler becoming stale as a color commentator which hurt the team in the last few years.
My favorite is a toss between Joey Styles in ECW and Bobby Heenan in WWF/WCW. As a combo Heenan/Monsoon.

Jim Ross
JR can make any moment seem like the biggest moment in the history of the world and add so much emotion to the moment.

JR by far
Monsoon/Heenan was the best combo ever, no two commentators pulled off the heel/face dynamic better than those 2.
I think JR is the best play-by-play commentator ever because of his knowledge and ability to add the "big match" atmosphere while calling a match. For me, Joey Styles is second to JR because of how he pulled off the one man commentary while in ECW.
I don't know, thats a hard one to choose, JR has such a long history, did some reffing in the start of his career but spent most of it as an announcer.
Gorilla Monsoon did an amazing job transitioning from an active wrestler, to a play by play announcer.
They are two of the best ever in my view, I really liked the older announcer combos the most, Monsoon/Heenan, Monsoon/Ventura, and McMahon/Ventura. The interaction Monsoon and Heenan had on Prime Time Wrestling before RAW ever started was classic stuff, would love to see that again.

JR is the best of all time. Cole and Striker are the best in WWE right now, and Tenay and Tazz are better than them both.

That and so, so many things that J.R. has said and done in his career, are what will in my book make him one of the best ever along with the likes of Gordon Solie, "Mean" Gene Okerlund, and Howard Finkel.
