Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

According to a WWE source who would have full knowledge of the situation, Bret Hart has indeed signed a short-term talent contract with World Wrestling Entertainment,

The WWE Hall of Famer signed the this past week and it will cover the period from 1/1 to 4/10, or through WrestleMania and about two weeks after the 3/28 show at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Hart simply told a reliable source that he wasn’t going to lie about anything and thus wasn’t going to comment on this story.

It was said that Hart wanted his signing to be kept quiet and his return to be a surprise, but that WWE couldn’t help itself but all but announced it publicly on the first RAW after the ink was dry.

Xero

Nah, they shouldn't blow Rock on something like that. If they're going to use Rock, he has to either be the week before or the RAW after Mania, unless TNA does another Monday impact between 1/4 and then.

I posted in the Wrestlemania 26 thread a couple days ago about how I suspected the WWE would be pulling out all the stops for this years Mania, even more so than usual, due to stiff competition from a UFC PPV the night before and the Pacquiao/Mayweather two weeks after. This seems to be an early indication of just that. Not gonna get my hopes up too high though, I just want to see where this goes.

From PWInsider:

We have gotten some email concerning an internet story (I don't know where it came from or I would cite the source) saying that Bret Hart has signed a four month contract with WWE, which would make him available to appear on the 1/4 Raw against TNA Impact. I talked to one person in WWE who told me that he heard though company channels that Bret would be in through WrestleMania but couldn't confirm it 100%. I have talked to a few people in WWE that have told me that they are under the impression that after having his name mentioned on Raw this week, they are moving forward as if he is coming in to work with WWE. So, while I can't confirm the story, I can tell you that my gut feeling is that Bret is on his way in to WWE.

If it is true and they go the guest host route it will be dissappointing. The need to turn DX heel first , have them align with Mr Mcmohan and beat the piss out of the hart dynasty for a few weeks to warrant the return of bret hart. Him just showinh up to guest host is pretty meh

if anything, they could so capitalize on Bret's on camera interaction with Vince. Doesn't even have to be Bret having anything to do with HBK, or even wrestling because it is well known that Bret can't physically wrestle anymore. Bret simply being face to face with Vince in the center of the ring live on RAW would be electric.

If this is true, just glancing at WWE's live event schedule, there is no RAW booked for the Monday before Wrestlemania 26. If they were smart......

Put RAW in Montreal.

They'll announce 1/4 as a special guest host.

Beginning of the show, the host still won't be there. About halfway, Vince will probably be pulling some bullshit.

All of a sudden...

"Do you smell what the Rock is cookin'?" will blare over the PA system, crushing all your little hearts.

And, either one of the following will happen...

A.) Rock will come out, clear the ring, and be face-to-face with Vince McMahon. When all of a sudden, Bret will come out and turn complete heel and beat the Rock down.

B). The Rock will come out, and host the show. Then, as CWK so thoughtfully mentioned, they will announce the RAW after 'Mania being in Montreal.

Either way, they'd get your ratings by baiting you in.

Call me crazy, but I don't see Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels in the ring at the same time. If indeed, Bret will be on Raw, I see it going like this:

Bret Hart comes out, gives a speech about how he and Vince McMahon have had a checkered past, they've had their differences, but let bygones be bygones. He says he's glad to be in a WWE ring again, in front of all his WWE fans, on the 1st Raw of the New Year.

He announces, to kick the New Year off right, we're gonna have a title match. DX will defend the unified titles against Jericho and Big Show.

Sometime during Raw, we get obligatory Santino Marello, Chavo Guerro, Hornswoggle, Jillian singing some Celine Dion for Bret since he's Canadian, Bella Twins, Chris Jericho glad to see Bret, a fellow Canadian, because maybe he'll finally get some respect/appreciation, Randy Orton claiming there's a conspiracy to keep the title off of him.

Bret Hart comes out to do commentary for the Tag Team Title Match. Sometime during the match, Jericho has Shawn Michaels in the Walls of Jericho. Before Shawn has given up and is ready to reverse it, Bret Hart calls for the bell to ring, thus screwing Shawn out of the tag team titles. Bret, Jericho, and Big Show walk up the ramp and when they get to the top Bret has a big smile on his face as Raw goes off the air.

i think it'd be worth like not guarenteeing viewers on the night for nailing them for repeats or just generating future interest though. i mean it's kind of like buying a book and turning to the back page, for me. like it's the sort of thing people can discuss and turn someone else onto it, yet if you know about it before hand it kills the surprise and all the emotion that entails.

The Mackem

I guess it depends how Bret is brought in, the disposition of his character and his current condition. I'm going to have to assume that he still can't wrestle.

Face route

McMahon comes to the ring as a heel

He tells the world that money makes the world go round blah blah blah

He brings out Bret

Bret calls out Michaels

Bret talks about 97 and that it needs to be buried and left behind. At the end of the promo, Bret asks Michaels to shake his hand if he agrees. Michaels takes his hand. Bret asks for a favour from Michaels, for old times sake DX versus Hart Dynasy for the tag titles. Michaels agrees.

McMahon is bemused by it all and Bret turns to McMahon demanding an apology for 97. McMahon refuses. Bret says ok but he's the GM so tonight McMahon will kiss The Hitman's ass. The Hart Dynasty can help with this making McMahon do it.

McMahon is livid afterwards.

Tag title match can be a close encounter with a ref bump. McMahon comes down to the ring and some screwjob ending occurs with DX coming out on top. DX can fake not knowing what is going on but then shake McMahon's hand and lay a beat down on the Hart Dynasty leaving Bret seething at the end of Raw or DX's involvement in the screwjob can be dragged out over a few weeks.

The payoff would be some PPV tag team title match with Bret in one corner and McMahon in another.

Heel route

I guess it would centre around Bret wanting to get rid of the 'cancer' of WWE, DX who after all these years still make him sick to his stomach.

Yeah I agree, this was the cool thing about the Monday night wars - this kinda thing did happen and it was amazing to watch but I think I am right in saying that the surprise factor has been sucked out of wrestling over the years.

Bret can't wrestle. He'd be stupid to consider it.

BUT... a brawl where he doesn't take a single bump? A complete squash where he just beats someone up and barely takes a lick the entire match?

I'm calling Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon in a Street Fight at WrestleMania, and just hope enough old school viewers remain for the audience to care about it. If this had happened 5-10 years ago, that may well have been a monster buyrate. In 2010, I'm not so sure.

What next? "Please welcome this week's guest host, Bruno Sammartino"?

"Please rise as we induct into the Hall of Fame: Macho Man Randy Savage"?

"And now, making his return to the WWE... <strike>Marty Jannetty</strike> <strike>The Ultimate Warrior</strike> <strike>Jim Cornette</strike> <strike>Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake</strike> Ken Kennedy"

Also, that comment about Tazz/1.3 switching over to Raw. Yeah, right! Like Impact's gonna get a 1.3

Do you think this would work:

Michaels turns heel and has a personal mission to rid the wwe of Harts. He squashes one dynasty member after the other. HHH plays cheer leader for michaels he sits on a turnbuckle and commentates over the house mic as michaels beats the shit out of every Hart. Michaels uses chairs, ladders, tables. HHH makes the count as michaels pins each one.

He gets on the mic saying "I've beaten every hart in the WWE...hell, if Stu hart was alive I'd kick his old ass too." Michaels plays a video package of his victories over every Hart including owen and bret.

He laughs about it with HHH who then pulls out a canadian flag. Shawn and HHH lay the flag down in the ring and look like they're about to piss on it.

The Hitman guitar squeal screeches through the sound system briefly dimming the lights the HITMAN skull logo flashes on the tron then come back on...as if it was all a glitch shawn and hunter look at each other then laugh.

The lights go out completely the pink lights come on. We can see shawn and hunter in sillioutte in the ring. A 3rd person hits HHH knocking him out.

The lights come on revealing the 3rd person to be Bret Hart. Michaels is in utter disbelief ! he looks like he has seen a ghost! Brets Music hits as michaels backs out of the ring like the chicken shit heel he is. Bret Picks up the flag. We get a close up of Bret as Raw goes off the air.

abec

A movie?

How is this shit not obvious.

Vince saw hogan as a threat, so he probably called Bret Hart and said I'll give you 500k to make a few spots on TV hoping that Hogan wont have any other cards to play and that the TNA deal will only be a big thing for a few months and not a few years. Vince paying 500k is better than him losing 500k a week in a ratings battle, regardless of what it will due to the business in the forms of INCREASED viewers overall, I highly doubt that Vince wants to go down that road... again.

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart appeared on yesterday's edition of Wrestling Observer Radio on F4Wonline.com and here are some of the highlights:

* Bret said he doesn't have faith in Eric Bischoff or Hulk Hogan when it comes to recreating the Monday Night Wars with TNA. He respects TNA as a company and hope it brings competition for the sport but doesn't think they're going to do anything major. Bret said Hogan has played himself out to the American audience and doesn't have anything to offer anymore.

* He feels he still has lots of ideas and different things he can contribute to wrestling. His ideal job in the business right now would be something similar to what John Laurinaitis does for WWE. He would want to be involved in planning matches and storylines.

* TNA has always been good to him as far as extending offers go.

* Bret says he is a big fan of Randy Orton's work these days but not impressed with the repetitive storylines he's been involved in. He also said he's impressed with Kofi Kingston and is a fan of Melina, calling her creative and very imaginative when it comes to doing her moves. He also feels everything Sheamus is doing right now is impressive and also is a big fan of Jack Swagger. Bret feels Swagger has good potential to be a top wrestler and character.

* He would loved to have wrestled Kurt Angle and David Hart Smith. He also would have loved to work as a heel against John Cena because he feels they could have told a good story together. He hinted that Cena's abilities in the ring are limited but he is still good.

* As far as all the news about his WWE return, Bret said he can't talk about the rumors but did say that he was talking with WWE and "we will see what happens.

I’d have Bret Hart host the January 4th RAW and start the show with Hart and Shawn Michaels. They bury the hatchet in the ring and shake hands. Michaels then does a 180 and starts to verbally bury Hart. Vince McMahon, in the weeks following Hart’s appearance, backs everything Michaels has said. At the Royal Rumble, Hart’s music hits to distract Michaels. Michaels is sent flying from the ring, after the distraction. Michaels, fuming, heads to the back and tears the HD apart.

Hart shows up again on RAW and calls Michaels out. Hart says he may be old, but still has enough for one last fight. They book a Street Fight for WrestleMania and build up from there. Michaels is really good at carrying wrestlers to something good, while letting them really shine. Michaels, methodically and with a grin, puts Hart in the Sharpshooter, but Hart reverses the Sharpshooter into the Sharpshooter. Michaels cries in pain and taps out.

Hart/Vince is the likely match, but Michaels is the best bet to work a match with him while carrying him in a way that lets Hart look like a star.

Bret is about to explode, raises his fist in anger...but stops...pauses and says "Shawn, there's only one thing I can think of that you could do for me that would make us even. The way I see it, you owe me a favor."

Shawn: "A favor?"

Bret: "Yeah, a favor."

Shawn: "Ok, you name it...but then we're even?"

Bret: "Yeah, Even. Grab your bag, we're going on a road trip."

The following Raw they show various road trip clips of the two driving to an unknown destination and Bret still won't tell Shawn what the "favor" is.

Finally they pull up to a large house and Bret parks the car.

Shawn: "Who's house is this? What do you want me to do?"

Bret: "Just go ring the doorbell, I'm sure you can figure it out for yourself."

Shawn slowly walks up to the door, looks around paranoid-like and rings the door bell.

The door opens, and an unseen person with a familiar deep voice says "Shawn? What are you doing here?"

Shawn looks back at Bret in the car, Bret nods. Shawn looks down, shakes his head in disbelief....then delivers THE MOTHER of all Sweet Chin Music's to the unseen person in the doorway.

Shawn steps in the doorway and stands over....AN UNCONSCIOUS GOLDBERG!

Shawn: "Hi Bill. Bret sends his regards."

Shawn returns to the car and sits in the passenger seat with his head down, looking ashamed of himself.

Bret (smiles & shakes Shawn's hand): NOW we're even. Let's go see Vince.

Car drives away...END RAW.

no seriously. Didnt he have a stroke and isnt he like 52 years old or something? He probably looks like 2008 Roddy Piper.

He did a decent job recovering it. he was on Off the Record after being in recovery from the stroke, a few years back, and he said he was already back to being able to bench 280 pounds... which is un fucking real since he had a stroke like a year or 2 before.

280 pounds isn't that much for someone like Bret though... I mean I'm pretty sure I could almost max out at somewhere near 280 and it's not all that much weight. I bet you in his prime he was maxxing out probably around 400 pounds. But 280 after having a stroke is unbelievable.

WrestleMania 24 was an example of how Shawn Michaels can carry talent by letting them get their spots in without trying too much.

Bret Hart/Vince McMahon is more likely, but not a match I’d be interested in. In fact, it would be not befitting of a career that was highlighted by never really having a bad match and such a waste of an opportunity. One match is pushing it, though, and there’s no sense in doing anything but Michaels for WrestleMania.

Xero
12-19-2009, 02:43 PM
But Flair could actually work. Doubt Bret could do more than a brawl, which is why Vince makes sense. I'd rather see Bret vs. Vince in a brawl than to watch Michaels vs Bret and be completely disappointed in the quality (well, I wouldn't expect much, but others would).

At least with Bret vs. Vince, you'd know what to expect.

Xero
12-19-2009, 02:44 PM
I still believe that we won't see Bret and Shawn in the same ring at the same time. If we do, I have a feeling it will be a one-off angle, possibly at Mania (before which they never crossed paths in any way, shape or form).

Ol Dirty Dastard
12-19-2009, 02:47 PM
I don't believe Bret should wrestle at all... all I'm saying is he looks presentable and sharp, as opposed to Flair and Piper who look god awful.

Noone should lay their hands onhim either it is too much of a health risk. He needs to be a manager, that's it.

Xero

This. Though I'm sure WWE could cover him. I just think it would be wrong on so many levels for him to wrestle.

But then again noone thought Shawn Michaels would work again. But a stroke is a little different to a bum back.
