Complete piss on the original.
They might as well of done what they do when those indie studios spend all their budget on getting the right to use the name of an original film in its title, leaving all the money left for the piece of shit the film will be.
This is the same thing just on a grander scale.

To be fair, the Crane Kick isn't necessarily a Karate attack.
People taking this far to seriously, acting like the original was Citizen Kane or something. It has a few memes so shit, better not touch. I mean, how many kids this day and age have seen the original? Or even should see the original? It's hardly aged well. I have no problems with this. Will Smith's kid looks great (and the line he delivers at the end of trailer is, suprisingly, like watching a mini-Will Smith) and it'll probably go over quite well with the youth of today (yinno, those that it's aimed at) It's obviously not gonna be a masterpiece and you'd have to be fucking retarded to expect it to be.

It's all well and good that a new generation have a Karate Kid film to watch and hold dear for themselves, but the fact is we have our own, hence why the majority of people don't like this, and what's wrong with that? of course its going to be what people who saw the original thing.
The fact is, they are still calling it 'The Karate Kid', which means it has some connection and link to the original, when it REALLY doesn't.
Kids could've had their 'Karate Kid' movie with another name. There is no point in calling this film 'The Karate Kid' at all in my opinion.
The first film is a cult film. No one said it was Citizen Kane, but it is a film a lot of people have something to say about being remade into a piece of shit. And that is for a reason.

Yeah, this is sort of my beef. The movie takes place in China and he's teaching the kid "Kung Fu" which is Chinese and yeah, Jackie Chan's Chinese but it's the Karate Kid and Karate is Japanese and I'm not entirely sure legitimate Karate enthusiasts would appreciate having "all them Asians" and "all them karates" just sorta thrown together like it's all the same shit anyhow. I mean, I'm not personally Chinese, Japanese or a practitioner of Karate, but I hate it when every martial arts style is automatically "karate."
And yeah, I know that Karate has its roots in Chinese Kung Fu and yeah, I know that there's really no reason for me to give a fuck, and it's just a name, but it just annoys the shit out of me. The styles aren't interchangeable and neither are the cultures surrounding them.
And I'm sure the original Karate Kid had similar nagging, minute issues like this, but that was in the 80's and I had sorta hoped we'd gotten smarter than that since then.

To be honest The Karate Kid barely registers as a sports movie so much as a martial arts movie. It just happened to have a sports competition at the end. The climax could have been a street fight and it would change nothing about the movie. My list above dealt with the sports as part of the plot.

That's not true at all. The movies full of baseball relating matters. It's all about the sport of baseball, and it's cultural impact. The movie culminates in a game of catch between a father and son to make a point.
I don't see how Raging Bull transcends the genre any more than Rocky, or any other boxing film like Cinderella Man and Million Dollar Man.
It's about the boxer, so it has more to it than boxing, but it's still a sports movie by far.
I guess if we're talking about actual footage of people playing baseball...That's not really what makes a real sports movie though

Pretty sure the culture of the "sport" is part of the plot. This can be said about any true sports movie.
If you consider martial arts a sport of any kind, it's definitely a sports movie as much as any of the others.
But in that case Bloodsport would be a sports movie too. I have no problem with such, just saying.

The first Bring It On was great, the sequels had nothing to do with the original (no returning cast, writers, or directors). In fact the Bring It On series got taken over by the modern American Pie producers. Two series stemmed from a decent original that have no business going on.
And I totally put Bring It On on par with The Karate Kid. 'Kid's subject matter may be more interesting with me, but as a movie it didn't change my life or anything. It does nothing Bring It didn't do as far as entertainment goes.
