Borrowed my lil bro's PS2 recently, and have been taking a nostalgia trip through some of my favorite titles for the system. Already went through the first and second God of War, MGS 1 & 2, and Resident Evil 1 & 2. All of those are excellent titles and where as fun to play now, many years later, as they where when they where brand new.
Now I'm moving on to some classic Final Fantasy. Looking to play through from 7 up to 12.(skipping X-2 though) So I thought I ask before I began what was everyones favorite Final Fantasy for the Playstation?
Mine has been since first playing it, Final Fantasy VIII. I simply love the whole College(Garden) setting, as it was something new and refreshing to the Final Fantasy series. The characters where all very intriguing, including the main protagonist Squall. I remember the opening scene with Squall and Seifer fighting with their gunblades giving me and my little bro goosebumps due to how good everything looked.
I'm excited to go through this game again, and see if it is as great as I remember it to be. But like I said I'm gonna be playing through them all again, so maybe I'll have a new favorite after all is said and done.
So again I ask what was your favorite Final Fantasy?

9. A lot of people really fucking hate it though. These people usually love 10 which I hate

5, 6, 7, and Tactics are all amazing though. 4 and 12 are decent, the first one kinda sucks, I haven't really played 2 and 3 that much, 3 was better than 2 though. Don't really like 8 and I hate 10. Mystic Quest is incredible

7 is probably my favorite. I like the materia system and it was the first I played so it has that for me. Then Tactics is probably my next favorite because I like the battle system and the story. Maybe 3/6 though. I didn't like 8 that much. 9 and 10 are excellent as well. I think I would take 9 over 10 though because I hated the voice acting.
Edit: I left out 5, which I have also played. I like it for the reason I like Tactics. Job system.

9 is so much better than 8 and 10. Don't know why it gets hated so much. And the "Main character has a tail" argument doesn't count.
That being said, tie between 7 and 9.

7 or 9
hands down.
Although I love the rammstein opening in FFX

The happiest day of my adult videogaming life was when my copy of FFIX got to my house in the mail.

It's pretty much down to preference. If you say FF1 is the best for you then I'm not gonna argue with you.
With that said it would be Final Fantasy Tactics then 6 or 8.
Tactics.
If I had to pick one out of the numbered series, though... I'd probably pick 6.

I booted up Thief Gold yesterday, and still get chills when I see that old Eidos logo.

And I'm talking the PC version here. Don't look at me crazy, I know what Square-Enix is.

This was really like asking what is the your favorite kinda of cake. Sure people will have there preferences, but whatever kind they choose it's still delicious cake.
Also just seen this on IGN, so I thought I would add it to the conversation.

What does everyone think about this ranking?

Prolly woulda switched 9 and 8 around, and then 9 and 10.
FF 6 is definitely the number 1 spot.
I would've switched 4 with 7.
10 is trash, 11 is an incredibly poorly made MMO and I didn't even have enough interest to play 12. They would've been at the bottom of my own personal list.

My first thought was six, but the truth is I play through seven a lot, and for little other reason than I like the game mechanics. the story can suck my balls, but so what? It takes most of the RP elements from an RPG, but it's still got me playing.

Favorite was 4 because of the age I played it at. Other was 7.
