WWE Not Bringing Back ECW; Working With WCW Trademarks
Story By: Keith Wilcutt
April 10, 2004
Thanks to Pwinsiders for the following:
-According to the USPTO the trademark for ECW was suspended as of January 2004. That pretty much indicates that there is no activity with the WWE bringing back ECW at this time as has been rumored recently.
However the WWE has been working on the Trademarks for WCW through April, which could indicate that WCW will return in some capacity in the near future.

Why don't they just quit trying to redo what they failed doing in 2001?

You can slap the WCW name on it, but it is still WWE. =/

Maybe it will go RAW=WCW, SmackDown!=WWE and Confidential=ECW? I don't think the name WCW is cursed, I think the whole Invasion thing was, though.

Shouldn't Smackdown! be more WCW, though? The Smackdown side seems to emphasize more the technical aspect of wrestling and gives the cruiserweights a decent push, while Raw emphasizes the "entertainment" aspect of sports entertainment.

If two shows aren't on the same day at the same time, there's no point in different company names.

Why doesn't somebody just smack the sh*t out of Vince and tell him what everybody else knows and/or thinks....

This actually means nothing to me because they can easily start to use suspended trademarks. Linda McMahon have also publically spoken at the shareholder meetings that they have discussed an ECW brand as well as talking about all the negative stigma behind the WCW name.

wat we need is another big company to get a tv deal so the wwe has some competition!
any thing the wwe do will be wwe all the way, it dont matter if it has a wcw or ecw logo its just gonna be wwe!

I agree that no matter what logo or name you give it it's still WWE. They should just make stables instead of "companies".

By all means, please do.
When you're rotting in jail for smacking the shit out of a rich white man, I'll be laughing.

It's pro wrestling though. You could probably say it was a work and get away with it.

And Vince might claim that you were shooting on him.
Anyway, I still maintain that if they do ECW, it should be a faction and not a group. They shouldn't even use the name, really. Just have a stable come in and randomly attack people.
But they can afford to wait on this.

As much as I still miss WCW, I agree with others who say it won't be the same. They should just continue to put their video library to use by releasing more DVDs with WCW footage and matches. At this point, WCW tapes are pretty much collectors items.

WWE has proven that they know how to put that library to good use...
I still say a "Best Of EC f'n W" DVD should be made...
and they definitly should do a Benoit DVD and a Guerrero DVD.

I believe they are actually making DVDs of all 3 of these. The ECW one is "The Rise and Fall of ECW" I think. I'm not sure if it was confirmed, but I'm pretty sure I read about it on here.

They are making and ECW thats coming out in the fall and a Benoit dvd coming out soon. I don't know about Eddie, but I'm sure it will be done, if they're not in the process already.

Rise and fall of ECW. They'll prolly leave out any match more incredible than the WWE could put on.

I think an ECW brand is a bad idea for reasons that I have went into in the past.
But one new reason I just thought of is that if the WWE were to do their version of ECW it would probably hurt the value of the brand when they try to release an ECW DVD, or when they try to sell ECW shows on their 24/7 project. Just like WCW, Goldberg and the NWO were all weaker under the WWE guidance, so to would ECW.

Here's hoping that they go all out with the Benoit and Guerrero dvd's, and make them 2 or 3 disc sets, spanning their whole careers.

Let's be fair now, most WWE matches would kick the ECW matches arses.
