View Full Version : Hypothetical: Create Your Own Achievements

Instead of the usual 'essay' on the matter I'll just leave my ideas in bullets points. This thread is yours to discuss, disagree, rant, and whatever. Thanks for reading.
A new feature that devs could choose to include in their games to expand on the XBL community.
Available via a special addition menu, players can create challenges based on a number of categories and upload them on XBL.
These challenges must have been done by the creator before uploading them online.
Once online, gamers could search these challenges and take them on via the specific game's CAA menu.
Special leaderboards would rank these challenges by how many people attempted it versus how many actually completed it. Your challenge could climb the ranks the more people downloaded it without beating it. So no, your challenge doesn't climb the ranks because more people completed the Achievement. Why would one want that?
And that's it. Ask for more details, I have them.

*pats you on head* It's a brilliant idea, and anyone who challenges it is just jealous of your creativity.
...That's what you wanted, right? an wank and some reassurance that the essay you posted on another forum isn't as retarded as they said it was?

No. What do you think? Your post doesn't help.

I mean, lending me strawmen is nice and all, but it's more polite to wait it out. Makes you seem all negative.

I never said anyone was jealous of my creativity, but now that you mention it...

And what essay?

I could just stop posting these things, but that's a lame conclusion. What else could these forums possibly be for if not sharing ideas, rants, reviews, thoughts, feelings, etc.

My contributions to the VG Forum welcomes any kind of post, but I have issues with posts that question the fact that I post these contributions at all. Seems odd to me.

You know, I was wondering how on Earth you could garner enough interest for eight replies. Apparently, spamming your own topic. With literal-minded, Auspie crap no less.
So I guess I'll just wait for someone to criticise this topic's premise, and for you to get all hostile and defensive. As usual.

Should have been the first tactic.

I second this opinion.

Should have, but I forgot you were seriously autistic and couldn't follow basic progression.
Opinion: You've come up with another ridiculous, dumb, and overall pointless idea. Some people have the creative spark; you, however, do not. Since you can't seem to grasps how the structure of criticism or response works, these threads tend to go poorly, showing either lack of pattern recognition or foresight. It almost made more sense when you were acting out by playing heel.
You don't like being told your ideas are bad, though the constant flow of bad ideas seems to indicate it's all you've got. This is no exception. Pretty sure that's going to be the general consensus, too.
I'm not sure what more you want, because I'm pretty sure you knew all this already, so whining for feedback was stupid. But at least you've got your feedback.

Then it's unanimous.

My ideas are the future more or less, but it's hard to argue that from here, is it. Sorry to be cliche but mark my words more than a few of my "bad ideas" will go premium and 'pan out' as they say. See you then.
Thanks for reading.

No they won't. All the ideas you have are boring. Most of them are a day late and a dollar short anyhow.

If there was a CAA system added to games, no one would use it unless they could boost their gamerscore. If they could increase their score, they would look for the easiest custom achievement that would likely have been duplicated by thousands of other people. Download all those duplicates of the same easy achievement, complete it and your score will rocket. People could do this for an hour and have a huge gamerscore by the end of it.
Gamerscores would become even more meaningless than they already are.
I only ask for three things as far as achievement go.
- They should go up in 5's. None of the 7G or 4G nonsense. It make it look a little untidy.
- Don't have online achievements unless you know that online will be alive for a very long time. Puzzle Fighter II is guilty of both the first and second points here.
- Achievements should be actual achievements. Uploading a photo in Forza 3 is not an achievement yet I got one for that. Coming 1st in a race the game told me not to race in because my car was so inferior it wouldn't be competitive, is an achievement but I didn't get anything for it.
That's all I need from achievements.

It's boring.

We should have TPWW achievements.
- Respond to a Noid post with at least double its length.

That wasn't a very easy achievement at all. Not like The Simpsons Game's "Press Start to Play" achievement.
Yeah, you get 5 points for pressing start and playing the game.
