View Full Version : The Rock says... I don't want to wrestle Cena

During an interview with Live Audio Wrestling last night, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said he would return to WWE for a guest-hosting role or to wrestle a match on the sole condition that he can "rip up" the writing for the current television product and tap into the "Attitude Era" with an edgier product.

"I want to use the platform as a host to literally rip things open. There's so much stuff we can do," Johnson told John Pollock. "We're going to create an incredible show, an incredible Raw. I'm doing another movie, but after that, we're going to create something special, unique, something badass for the fans. Talking to Vince (McMahon), whenever that's going to be, we're going to have a great time."

Johnson echoed what he said last week during an interview with ESPN in that he wouldn't rule out actually wrestling, but only if he can turn the product upside down and create a compelling storyline leading to a match.

"I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in wrestling, so I wouldn't rule out going back," Johnson said. "If the match was right and we could create something really unique and cool for the fans and for my opponent and for the company, I would do it in a second."

Johnson once again said he has no interest in wrestling John Cena, but talked about what it would take for him to work a program with one of WWE's premiere stars.

"I've never been interested in wrestling John Cena. The guys I wrestled in the past - from Goldberg to Hogan to Austin - were guys who I've really wanted to wrestle. If it can be done creatively but not only that, it's very important if I do back is that the writing has to be ripped open and really be pushed," Johnson said. "I came from a time in the Attitude era where we trail-blazed a lot and were fearless in the things we said and did."

Johnson added: "There are a lot of restrictions now on the product, which by the way, I understand, and I enjoy some of the stuff I see and I know some of the writers
and they're challenged every week, but if in fact I do go back, it would be an interesting collision of an Attitude time that I loved and the time now, but I'm sure we can always infuse things to make it work."

Interesting. So it looks like Rock may finally be in a WWE ring after five years sometime in the future. Is this 100% set in stone? Probably not but he seems like he wants to at least make an appearance and make it memorable. He's completely right about the whole Attitude vs now thing but I'm a little surprised he doesn't want to wrestle Cena. That's like... THE match up for the WWE. I wonder who he would want to wrestle... maybe Punk? Edge?

I'm sure at this point nothing's been guaranteed, but at the very least, I'd love to see Rock guest host, preferably sometime in March, just before WrestleMania. Imagine if they followed up Austin on 3/15 with Rock on 3/22. Too much awesomeness for the writers to probably realize they should capitalize on, though, unfortunately for the WWE 'Universe'.

IDK, I think the fact he's saying he doesn't wanna wrestle Cena, only makes it more possible that he WILL wrestle Cena.

The man did The Tooth Fairy for a paycheck. I'm sure the next logical step is to suck dick for cash.
Vince just needs to find the right number for a few 10 min promos, and a 15 min match.

He doesn't want to have a bad match, and with cena, he would have to carry the match, whereas if he wrestled HBk/Taker/Orton they could do the heavy lifting

:y: Cena's current match formula would call for the Rock to pretty much work the pace, and I can't see that happening. That, and I don't think they would mesh too well. Not saying it wouldn't work, but it's been almost 6 years since Rock had any sort of match. The last thing he, or anyone in the company should want is to saddle him with an unsure worker in what could very well be a final send off.

The butthurt is strong with this one.

I fully agree with Kane Knight on this issue.

Cena's perfectly capable of great matches. He just doesn't often get to. Four moves of doom is more spectacular for the TV format. Rock had his own four moves of doom back in the day as well.

Besides being a guest host, the Rock's been saying he's 'open to coming back' for the last five years.

I don't see it happening.

Because im sure if you got offered several million to do a movie you would say no?

Actually for he last lot of years he's been saying he's done with wrestling, ever since mania 20. Its only the last couple since the hall of fame his tune has changed.

Yeah I don't remember Rock saying he was "going to come back" prior to fairly recently. I remember JR wishing him a happy birthday on RAW in 2005 and saying he "cant wait to electrify the fans again" but other than that he has barely been mentioned for like four years.

I'd love to see The Rock back, but he sounds a bit egotistical in that interview. Like a real life "Hollyrock". He sounds like he thinks he's bigger than the business.

Also, I think I'd rather see Rock/Orton than Rock/Cena, but I'd be fine with either.

For me the natural fued is Rock v Orton. Both third generation wrestlers, y'see. Then again, in my eyes, Cena is a modern day Rocky anyhow. Catchphrase-laden promos, 3 moves of doom, etc.

Not really that fussed about Rock coming back.

Rock/Orton would be the Shit. there's not too many other people that I'd want to see him work with. No old schoolers, If I had my choice, Rock/Legacy, Rock/HEEL Cena, Rock/Miz(if he was up to that status), would all be entertaining.

As long as we get a backstage Rock/Goldust segment, I don't care who the man wrestles.

I'd like to see Rock vs HBK. I don't think they have ever faced off before.

Rock is a thousand times better than Cena on the mic. And has had way better matches. That is all.

Vince should just have a 15 minute blowjob match between himself,The Rock and John Cena...because I'm sure to god both of them have sucked his dick for a title match.:naughty:

I think that Rock's comments about Cena are just adding fuel to the fire for the eventual Rock vs. Cena match. It wasn't that long ago that Cena was publicly criticizing Rock's decisions to stay away from the WWE and disassociate himself from his wrestling past. The two have some sort of rivalry brewing, whether its a work or a shoot.

I don't blame The Rock for not wanting to wrestle Cena. It'll just add credibility to Cena, loads of BS about 'passing the torch' which would be pretty damn undeserved.

I've said it before and will say it again, Cena isn't fit to shine Dwayne's shoes.
