From PWInsider and http://blogs.ajc.com/the-buzz/2010/01/29/wwe-brings-wrestlemania-to-dome-in-2011/ :

Access Atlanta is reporting that WWE had made the decision to have next year's WrestleMania at The Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. A noon press conference is set for Monday to make the official announcement. Of course, that is after Sunday's Royal Rumble PPV.

It was down to Atlanta and Miami. Didn't think Miami would get it since Florida had a WrestleMania two years ago and Miami is hosting Survivor Series this year.

That's shit. If it was Miami I'd be there 100% but really not sure about Atlanta. I guess I'll base my decision on my enjoyment in Phoenix this year.

What is the capacity of The Georgia Dome?

Xero
01-29-2010, 09:49 PM
75k for concerts according to Wikipedia, which is likely close to what wrestling would hold.

Xero
01-29-2010, 09:50 PM
For the record, WWE did do the Georgia Dome once in 99 (maybe 98) for a RAW.

Bit lame going to the Georgia Dome after all the brand new, magnificent stadiums they've been going to the past few years.

Jeritron

I think it was in summer of 99 and was the highest rated Raw ever.

Stone Cold and The Rock vs HHH and Undertaker?

It was Rock n' Sock vs Venis and Bulldog.

The Skydome RAW was Foley vs Mankind.

The GA dome is only 18 years old but there are already talks of building a new stadium for the Falcons. The NFL wont bring the Super Bowl to the Georgia Dome again because it is "outdated".

I wonder if Vince would have the balls to put it in there. Think they can get 100,000+ for Wrestlemania?

Xero
01-30-2010, 01:22 PM
Easily. Mania is an easy sell out for them, at least in the States. Wouldn't matter how big the arena was, it would be close to capacity.

Indy? Dallas? no? Bueller?

Team Sheep
01-30-2010, 01:31 PM
Well I dunno. They only just sell out 70,000 by show time. I guess they probably would sell out but there could be the risk of some empty seats which could be embarrassing.

Once it gets close to show time I'm sure they'd put out a lot of comp tickets.

I'm sure they do that as it is for Mania just to pad the attendance.

Jeritron
01-30-2010, 04:45 PM
I'm sure they'd find a way to fill the place. The novelty of Wrestlemania is strong as hell. People will attend or order Wrestlemania that would never think twice about any other event.
Even if they had to sell the cheap seats really cheap, they would get that place to capacity

Nah, but they should totally try to book "The Big House", Michigan Stadium itself for WM XXVIII...by the end of this year it will be able to hold 108,000, and Cowboys Stadium's record attendance is barely over 105,000. I'm no great U-of-M fan by any stretch, but it would be awesome.

A.) Mania is not always held in March, it is sometimes held in April.

B.) If you're implying that weather at that time of the year would be an issue, I hate to say it, but your fears are probably for naught.

C.) They went to orlando for WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando, FL, in the Citrus Bowl, which was an outdoor venue, and they could have very easily had thunderstorms during the event that night.

So, I'd say, hell yes, give it a shot sometime...why the fuck not?

Xero
01-31-2010, 01:10 AM
Because it could snow or be cold enough to freeze your balls off. That's why they don't do Mania up north in non-domed stadiums.

I go to bonnaroo every year which is 4 day musical event with over 200 bands (which is enough to have must see show at all times) and tghat's like 250

huge difference from the end of March to the beginning of April in terms of climate right?

rain was a possibility in Orlando, yes, but the ring was protected with a canope and people in the crowd can stick it out and wear ponchos. It was also a slight risk.

Michigan is a different story. Outdoor wrestling in winter weather. Sounds brilliant. Foot warmers on a pole match to main event

Obviously I have no idea how much tix will cost for next year, but for comparison purposes on Stubhub you can get tix to WM 26 this year for the low price of $29 if you want to sit all the way at the top of Univ. of Phoenix Stadium. Halfway up are about $1-200 and Ringside are about $500-1500 on Stubhub.

I also lol'ed at there being a section of the stadium seating called "The Ring of Honor" which is just underneath the top most section.
I was expecting the top section to be refered to as "Total Nosebleed Area"

Would it mostly be a lock to say that the Freebirds land into the Hall o Fame next year?

Yes, I believe so. Aside from the Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts, and Jimmy Garvin), I would also add the Armstrongs (Bob, Brad, Scott, Steve, and Brian) and Bill Goldberg to that list.
