This is a vid I made. The back story to this is me and Jordan Jaa started wrestling around the same time 6 years ago and became a tag team in 08. Then after he was injured for 6 months, he came back and turned on me assuming that the fans and even his family who are die hard wrestling fans as well forgot about him. It was probably the best thing going in 2009 for the promotion we were working for because we made it look so real and appealing. But anyway, I got into doing vids for awhile now and decided to share it with my TPWW Peeps...criticism is welcomed.

You guys can work no doubt, and there's a decent crowd, but your look is awful, like you legit look bush league beyond all recognition. And you need to stop doing other guys' moves. You don't need to do 241351 high impact moves a match. Tell a story, lead to high spots. You don'tneed to angle slam/stunner/tarantula a guy all in the same match. Get your own unique offence, or I mean if you're going to do other guys' moves (cuz let's face it, it's all been done) only do one of them, not every single finisher from the early 2000s. I saw a spear, a stone cold stunner, a super kick, an angle slam etc. like what the fuck dude hahaha.
You quite clearly have the intensity and the ability, just wrestle like a wrestler, and not a mark for yourself and other wrestlers. And for god's sake do something about your attire. I mean you're in there busting your ass and bumping like a motherfucker, but you look like a backyard wrestler. You're only doing yourself a disservice.

And I realize tights cost money. But be creative.
Refer to the Gorgeous Dale Newstead videos when he used to wrestle as Gorgeous Gay Jew Newstead. Boy could he work a match! He could make a Royal Rumble turn into a giant oily man pile. He was one of the best.
And I realize tights cost money. But be creative.
By being creative, he means dont wear any. Because he strongly believes in using other boys penises as foreign objects.

Angle slam? What angle slam? There were no angle slam in the match. This vid that was put togather shown the most impact moves of the matches...I do just wrestle...but I just added all the key "mark out" spots. The spear was a desperation move...HE had me in a masterlock and switched it over to a stunner...superkick was a desperation move...
Do you consider Homicide a backyarder with what he wears? He has a unique style with a shirt, elbow pads, wrestling gear etc. My trunks are the MMA Warrior brand and I do happen to wear a shirt to wrestle in from time to time. I'm far beyond a backyarder, trust me.

It's easy to look good in a video where you can pick the spots that are shown, play a universally known song, and adjust the speed for dramatic effect.
Show me a full match of yours (maybe 2 or 3 with various opponents), then you'll get my two cents, along side a more honest perspective from everyone else.

Was there a WWE scout in the house? Were you getting paid a fortune?
If the answer to these questions is inevitably "no", you don't need to be killing yourselves with ladders and weapons shots in front of about 50 people. Especially when the industry leaders have moved away from that style. How many bumps do you think you have in you? If you're serious about making it in the wrestling business, you'd be better served picking your spots and saving the big stuff for when you're making the big money.
You guys seem like you have a fair amount of potential though. Good luck to you.

So by "criticism welcomed" what you REALLY meant to say was "If you think I'm awesome, tell me. But if you have LEGIT constructive criticism, keep it to your damn self." I mean my god, he started off by saying you could work. But that wasn't enough, as soon as he made suggestions on how to improve, you reacted like a child and got defensive. He was offering suggestions, and for what it's worth not only does he come from a background where he would be qualified to make suggestions, but they happened to be true. First you're all up in arms about your look, and then a couple posts later your talking about how you're going to change it. So apparently you already were aware your image didn't present a professional. When you dress like a backyard wrestler, that's the first thing people think. Why stake the decks against you? It does look second rate when you're out there in a Punisher T-Shirt.
As for his notes about you hit too many high spots, from the video I saw, it's totally true. There was a lot of flash in there, and I understand in a highlight video you're not going to show any real psychology, how could you? It's a HIGHLIGHT video. But it certainly seemed like there was a LARGE number of high spots in a FEW matches. Which leads to the natural assumptions. The first of which is, you are a mark for yourself, and you really want to hit all your best shit all the time. In your intro you felt the need to tell us that this angle was the best thing going in your promotion. Why the fuck would we care what YOUR perception of YOUR angle was? Again, nothing definitive, but it does lead to the conclusion you think you're some pretty awesome shit. Coupled with the fact that you went into high defense the second someone suggested ways to improve tells me you think you know it all already. Which, again, kind of inching towards that conclusion of you mark for yourself all over again doesn't it?
In the end, I have a couple notes I could give that I saw, some things that I would suggest, but I have a feeling it would fall on deaf ears and you likely wouldn't even finish what I wrote before you started in on why I am/was wrong. Hope you grow up son, you've obviously got some good skill, but it appears to me you lack the discipline to get better. And I've seen a LOT of those guys come and go........
Also, 'desperation move' isn't any kind of reasoning for busting out the WWE MOVEZ. And lol @ the Homicide comparison. There are looks that fit gimmicks and then there is a guy throwing an outfit together because he doesn't have gear. I'm guessing you're gimmick isn't some variety of vigilante/MMA fighter hybrid. And the other guy is just taking the piss, at least you have kickpads.
That said, your execution/timing isn't bad, get the feeling you're a bit fond of the good old movesets though. But yeah, pretty impossible to judge much more because anybody can look good when picking certain bits out. Would rather see a full match.
And it's not a Masterlock, it's a Full Nelson. WWE movez.

Nah you got it all wrong...I wasnt being defensive in a "fuck what you say" attitude. I was just explaining my case to him that I was indeed not a backyarder and so on. Gave my opinion on the matter as well. I don't think I'm pretty awesome. I know in this business you are learning something new everyday. I was just sharing what I love. But again I was never against the negative side to someone's opinion. It actually gave me thought on the next coming shows on what I should cool down on (move wise) or how to present my look. lol thankyou the one. Just because I was giving you advice doesn't mean I thought you sucked. But there's a reason you're an indy worker noone has ever heard of.
At the end of the day, I don't wreslte, but I've watched wrestling for almost 20 years, I do know what I like, and I know what I don't like.
Indy guys love to load their movesets up with 35254325 amount of moves. It doesn't even make fucking sense for you to have so many moves and it's just overkill. Watch Bret Hart matches and HBK matches, neither has super innovative moves, or even relies on very many high spots.
They build and build and build, and BAM huge bump (usually a superplex or in Michaels case a bump to the outside selling his back injuries). Then they build and build and build and tease and tease, then by the end of the match it's just all out and the crowd is going nuts.
It's not fuckin Stone Cold Stunners and Coast to Coasts all match. Take my criticism for what it's worth, but when you overload a match with big moves, the moves lose all meaning and it doesn't make sense.

TBF, when Bret and Shawn were coming up it was a much different time than it is in the Indy's now. Can you even get over without doing a Canadian Destroyer, Tarantula, 450, and a Burning Hammer in the same match? I don't know what the scene is like at all.

Good wrestling is timeless though. Shawn Michaels hasn't changed the way he's worked all that much
If you watch a mid 90s Michaels match and a michaels match from now, they are still fairly similar and the crowd still reacts. Even watch a Jerry Lawler match, he does a flying fist drop and the crowd goes buck, it's cuz he understands the psychology.
Ol Dirty Dastard
02-05-2010, 06:46 PM
So what I'm saying is the key is to get the fans to care about the little things you do like facials, body language etc. and be into the few big moves you could have as opposed to killing yourself to get politce applause for a ballbreaking spot they're going to forget in 20 minutes anyways.

The WWE crowd knows who people like HBK and Lawler are. We know their style and we know they're legends, so even if all Lawler does is throw some fists he's able to get the crowd going before he's even stepped into the ring. I'm wondering if a guy just coming up today be it in the indies or even starting in the WWE, dropped that same fist or wrestled a Lawler type of match would he get over? Or do you need to be part of the X-Division now?
This kind of goes along with what Cornette said about hardcore and what Dale is saying about timeless wresting. To a certain degree, all the no-selling, supermoves, and false finishes comes back to haunt you. The crowd will expect more and more and you can only do so much.

Look at CM Punk tho. The crowd eats his shit up, and back when he was in ROH he had a way bigger moveset, but now he has his own unique style of offense, and it's pretty basic, and the crowd is into everything he does.
Same with Orton (even though he can be a little boring).
If you have a certain "Something" the crowd is going to react to what you do, especially if you do it well.

That's definitely the key. Look at early Rock. He's all over the place doing high-flying stuff and nobody cared because he was just another guy. Then he developed his moveset to his heel personality a little bit and it all made a lot more sense.

Timing is a huge issue I think. You need to know the right time to hit a move to make the crowd react.

In 95% of the places, absoloutely. The only places that you need to do all that bollocks to get a reaction is usually in front of a mostly smart crowd. They aren't too common though. Storytelling is still 100% the way to go.

You may be better now so I'll judge when I see it. However there was a forearm you threw that was just like "may as well do this for filler" like it looked completely pointless. Also try come across as less of a mark when you throw that kick to the back. hahaha you looked like you were about to start chanting for yourself when you were about to throw it.
