FROM THE FUCKING FRONT PAGE
Fans have been wondering what exactly WWE NXT will be since Vince McMahon announced that ECW would end its run on Syfy and be replaced by the “next evolution” of WWE.

The word going around is that the NXT concept will be portrayed as a “reality” based series featuring new wrestlers who viewers will be able to follow inside and outside of the ring. Fans will be able to follow wrestlers from day one and get their personal insight, their background and goals, creating a different sense of deeper insight, etc.

As it stands now, the concept appears similar to WWE’s former Tough Enough series with talent not only feuding with each other, but for the opportunity to become the “next” big WWE Superstar and move onto RAW or SmackDown!.

WWE has been pitching different concepts for the series and formalizing plans since the fall, but all signs to point to this concept being the nucleus of NXT.

As of right now, WWE has not decided what to do with the ECW Title. The belt may continue on as some are lobbying to keep the title, but in the end this will be Vince McMahon’s decision. Some feel that they should keep the belt so that they can use the title for the undercards of secondary PPVs as an attraction.

So basically, NXT will be Tough Enough but on SyFy? Well, it was nice knowing you Hurricane, Goldust, Kozlov, and a few others. Have a nice time in TNA guys.

Sounds like UFC Ultimate Fighter or whatever, in wrestling form.

I may be wrong because I've never actually watched Ultimate Fighter, but that's what I've gathered it's all about

<font color=goldenrod>So, we'll go in depth with the characters in a reality-type setting, interesting. Some guys are going to be given ridiculous characters and will probably be future endeavored if they can't seem to make it work.

Just waiting for them to fuck up Danielson and Low Ki by giving them crap gimmicks on this show.</font>

It could be like Tough Enough. It could also be in kayfabe where they follow the new guys around like The Office. That's how I'm reading it since it's "innovative."

Wow... Sounds like Vince is ripping off Evolve.

I'm pretty "meh" to this idea. I mean, if it's on, I'll watch it, but I don't know what the logiv behind it is. I guess they figure by showcasing young guys on here they'll help get them over when they make their way to an official roster. I guess the traditional way of getting a character over isn't good enough anymore.

For some reason I pictured a "The Office" style wrestling show with weird hand held cameras and lots of zooms and talking heads and crazy characters.

It probably won't be as entertaining as that would be though.

What Would Kevin Do?

I think this show has potential for creating new stars. Then again, this show is really made for someone like Bryan Danielson, who constantly tries to better himself. Same thing with like Yoshi Tatsu, if WWE could somehow get footage from NJPW's dojo, etc.

I think as long as it's character driven, focuses on their training, their desires, etc, it'll be good. If it is like another tough enough, then it'll be bad. I think they need to go with a more "sports" based program, sort of like Evolve is doing, not necessarily a reality type program.

02-09-2010, 11:30 AM
If they go with this, I hope it's all worked. I don't want to see them housing with each other and bullshit like that. Leave it to training (in-ring only) and random matches. And I don't want them to act as if these guys have never wrestled, either.

Also, do we really need 3 different brands? Especially with raw possibly moving to 3 hours permanantly?

No, we don't. The only thing that bothers me about closing down ECW is that it potentially kills any sort of character growth we were getting from that show with guys who have a chance to stick. I'm honestly scared for Zach Ryder, especially if he ends up on Raw. He's done a nice job playing up his character, and I'd hate to see all that work negated becuase of an overloaded roster.

Not to mention, Christian has been one of, if the most consistent worker in the company, and I'd hope to see him plugged into the upper mid card immediately no matter where he "signs".

I have a bad feeling we are going to see quite a few releases over the next 6 months to a year.

i'm not clear if this is going to be in kayfabe or not. if it is and all the wrestlers are in character for the show, i think it could be very interesting and has a lot of potential. if it isn't in kayfabe and is pretty much a new tough enough i'll be disappointed.

That's a possibility, but honestly, what are the chances that Raw would use and opening hour of a 3 hour show to showcase young talent needing more air time? Slim to none, imho. They're going to use that 3rd hour to enhance/cram down whatever it is they got going on. ECW kids would't have a shot in hell on Raw.

Report: Backstage concern over WWE NXT plans, Hollywood influence expected
By Brian Cantor (info@headlineplanet.com)
Feb 10, 2010 - 6:11:12 PM

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> F4WOnline.com's Wrestling Observer Newsletterhttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif
(http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/6360.html#) reports that WWE recently contacted Hollywood writers about working on a hybrid reality series, supporting rumors that WWE's new NXT series will incorporate reality aspects.

One idea--and it should be noted that at least five ideas have gained traction, so this is hardly confirmed--would essentially treat each episode (http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/6360.html#) like an episode of Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter," with two wrestlers (http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/6360.html#) building to a match at the conclusion of the hour.

With that reality show idea in mind, there has consequently been some backstage concern about WWE's ability to successfully produce such a series. Because shows like "The Ultimate Fighter" require extensive and expensive editing, many are wondering how WWE will be able to do justice to a show within that framework while turning around episodes for broadcast each week.

The fact that Vince McMahon will likely micro-manage and seek to approve all aspects of the program will only add to the difficult production process.

Sources thus predict that while the show will come across as intriguing out of the gate, natural production constraints--especially while the other shows are focused on building the all-important WrestleMania event--will result in the product quickly being diluted.

I said something similar in the youtube thread after watching a match of theirs in FCW. I was thinking, if the show is in kayfabe, to have them have a continually building rivalry that extends to (hopefully) SmackDown!, where they could continue the fued and actually get themselves over in the process.

I think this could work. It may not be the greatest idea in the world, but I think it could work. Have William Regal and Finlay serve as the "mentors" to these guys. That instantly makes it entertaining there. Then maybe take eight guys (so you could do some sort of tournament between them at some stage). Looking at the FCW roster, I'd go with these eight guys:

1. Brett DiBiase
2. Bryan Danielson
3. Curt Hawkins
4. Dawson Alexander
5. Heath Slater
6. Joe Hennig
7. Justin Angel
8. Kaval

* Brett DiBiase's story will focus on him trying to live up to his father's legacy, and how he he sees Ted DiBiase achieving in the WWE, and he thinks that he should be doing that as well. At just 22 years of age, he'd be the youngest male Superstar on the WWE roster.

* Bryan Danielson is a former student of Shawn Michaels and William Regal, and for years decided to wrestle around the world than in the WWE, but agreed to sign with the WWE when he heard about the NXT project, and realised that time was passing him by. He's "The International Superstar" and believes he is truly "The Best in the World."

* Curt Hawkins has been in the WWE before, and is actually a former WWE Tag Team Champion. After he lost his partner, Zack Ryder, Hawkins volunteered to go down to FCW to learn more about the business. His goal is to be the best wrestler he can be, and down there he led Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta. He wants to prove that he belongs in the main event of WrestleMania, and not just be involved in it.

* Dawnson Alexander is the husband of actress and singer Jennifer Hudson. He is a qualified lawyer, and could pretty much be anywhere he wants to be, but he wants to prove he can be a WWE Superstar. He always believed that he is not only the smartest man in the world, but the most athletically gifted. He believes that he could be the biggest star in the history of the WWE.

* Heath Slater is annoyed by one thing: Guys with daddies in the business always getting them jobs. Slater's father didn't work in professional wrestling, so when he decided to leave his life behind and become a professional wrestler, he didn't have the instant gateway that many second or third generation Superstars get. Nor did he have the support. His father no longer talks to him, and that is fine, because he is going to prove that wrestling doesn't lie in your genes; it comes from your heart.

* Joe Hennig is the son of WWE Hall of Famer, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig. His dream is to do what his father never did, and win the WWE Championship. Hennig says that his father was the greatest entertainer in WWE history, and many have been influenced by him, and many list him as their favourite, but he never gets that label of greatness. His goal is to make sure that people see the Hennig name as he greatest in professional wrestling history.

* Justin Angel is South African and a former male model. His grandfather was a professional boxer and amateur wrestler; and his father was a professional wrestler who trained him. Angel says that no one really knows who my family is, so it's been tough to get out of Africa and Europe and make it big in World Wrestling Entertainment, but he has managed to rise up and capture the FCW Heavyweight Champion despite not being the biggest dog in the fight. He says he wants to be one of those Human Highlight Reels like Rey Mysterio or Shawn Michaels who pushes past their size limitations, and proves to have too much talent to stop.

* Kaval is the silent one in the group. He's also the most experienced. He made his debut in 1998 -- before The Rock had even won his first WWE Championship. Since then, he has worked on his high-flying abilities, submission skills and martial arts abilities, and has won countless championships all over the world.

You can have little rivalries pop-up between them. Heath Slater seems like he'd be the biggest heel of the pack. He would have natural tension with Brett DiBiase, Joe Hennig, Justin Angel and even Finlay. Bryan Danielson and Kaval have wrestled each other all over the world. Dawson Alexander, as far as William Regal and Finlay are concerned, may not have been in the business long enough to have the ego that he's got.

I expect you'd see Ezekiel Jackson show up on the show with Regal bringing him in to work with some guys. As a Tough Enough Champion, John Morrison could show up, and tell them about his story, and how it's not easy getting into the WWE this way -- and one of the more experienced guys like Danielson or Kaval could hate getting advice for someone who has been wrestling for a shorter period of time than them.

For all the crap you get at times, Noid, that was one of the more solid ideas I've read in a while.

I like that each guy listed is actually given some sort of background and motive. Their not generic guy #5482764.

With that being said, the most interesting ones you have up there, imo, are DiBiase, Hennig, Slater, and Danielson.

Hopefully they do go with an all scripted show, where the guys have to actually wrestle and their in ring skills are the focal point, not the drama crap that shows like Ulitmate Fighter have (no disrespect, as I find that show to be entertaining when I actually sit down and watch it).
