View Full Version : Will The Miz ever be a top tier champion?

Pretty simple here. Will The Miz ever become a WWE or World champion, or has he currently reached his peak?
I would really love to see him win a big one, but I think this just may be about as high as he goes. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

I'm gonna go with yes. I think at the very least he'll one day be a transitional WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.

Bear in mind, I'm asking if you THINK he'll be a champion, not if you would like for him to be a champion.

For some reason, I just can't see the WWE putting the big one on him. Could you imagine The Miz main eventing a PPV?

This is a broken record, but he's too damn small.

Rey Mysterio?
Anybody Thrilla
02-12-2010, 11:19 AM
I know what you mean, though. Mysterio did it from an underdog gimmick. I couldn't see The Miz doing it from a prick gimmick.
If he DOES eventually win one, it had better be as a heel.

Maybe not quite, but definitely one of the more minor PPV's...

I mean he can basically be the same guy Jericho was. But I don't think people would take it seriously.

yes miz will and the storyline will probably be his first win over john cena probably not clean tho

i think a bigger question right now is will John Morrison get it? or kofi for that matter?

If they can throw the title on the ginger warrior, then Chris Benoit can rise from the grave and make John Cena tap to the Crossface in 2.5 seconds for the title.

Does The Miz work out with Triple H, though? Sheamus isn't that far-fetched in that aspect.

No, I don't see them ever putting the title on him. The best I could see is for him to main event a PPV in a multi-man match. I was thinking triple threat... but I don't even know about that. Fatal four way or elimination chamber.

– John Morrison worked the SmackDown/ECW live event last night in Ecuador, teaming with Matt Hardy in the opening match of the night. Morrison and Hardy defeated The Hart Dynasty. Morrison appeared to be fine and showed no signs of a broken ankle. As we reported yesterday, Morrison’s claims on Twitter that he broke his ankle were not true and he was simply “working the Internet fans.” (Editor’s note: Man, he really got us good!)
How about that.

He is getting better in the ring every week. He is one of the best on the mic. I can see him being a World Champion in about 2-3 years.
This is not going to be the most popular statement here, but I think he has a better chance than John Morrison, and I want him to win it more than Morrison.

This might be a terrible comparison, but just look at Chris Jericho. He was just breaking into the mid card a decade ago, and is VERY small. If the Miz can develop the kind of consistency Jericho maintained during his major stride, I think the sky could be the limit.
That being said, he'll never be The Rock, or Austin, or the Undertaker. Some glass ceilings just aren't made to be broken.

I voted yes as well. And I think the difference between the Miz now and MVP back then is that Miz is a Raw guy. He was drafted to Raw, and has achieved his highest levels of success on Raw. Not to mention, he's been pushed much stronger than MVP ever has since being drafted away from SmackDown!. For whatever reasons, people in creative are high on Miz.
With that said, I hope he wins one someday. he generates great heat, and is by and far their most over mid card talent. If the Miz where to win MITB and cash in befroe the year's out, imagine his reception considering the heat he's already earning.

Yes, the quality of his heel work, his mic performances and his ability to work with anyone, so far, shows to me that he will be at least a short term World Champion.

There is no doubt in my mind he'll win a World title.

The Miz is billed as roughly the same size as C.M. Punk (a little heavier, actually). I don't really buy the "he's too small" argument.
As Punk showed, if you can make enough people pay to see you get beat, you can stay in the main event. It might take another couple years, but I can see him at least winning whatever the world title is on SmackDown at that time. Holding 2 of the 3 possible titles on the company's highest-profile show is a step in the right direction, I'd think.

He has heat, which is more than 90% of the roster can say. He isn't going to fuck it up, like other potential stars have in the past (he doesn't have massive personal problems). He is not 'too small'. 6' 230 lbs is pretty big by todays wrestling standards.

That's actually a fairly standard size. HBK and Bret were both billed billed around the same during their runs. Not saying Miz is equal, but his size is not a discredit to him. He sizes up just fine.
In terms of not blowing his chance, I agree. This is guy who from day one made it clear that wrestling is what he loves and wants to do. He has the pasison for it. Look how much he has improved in such a short time.
In 4 years, the Miz has went from bumbling host and annoying personality to the best mid card heel on Raw, if not the entire company. His mic work is immense, his catchphrase is over to the point where, despite being boo'd, the audience sings along with it. And he continues to get better and better in the ring. It's all coming together.
Also, he's a legit home grown product. He was plucked out of UPW for Tough Enough, lost, still got signed, and has been given a tremendous amount of air time to develop his character on the mic and in the ring.
Honestly, if he continues to gain momentum at his current rate and creative continues to show their faith in him, it would be idiotic to not put a strap on him. It could come to a point where the fans are craving it and the E has no choice.

If you had asked me a while ago, I would have said no. I could have definitely seem him as a heel like Roddy Piper -- used to really put over top faces but never actually winning the big one himself. But now, I could see it happening. The dude is tremendous on the mic, good in the ring (arguably great at times), and gets so much heat. He's still quite young, always improving, and is finding a great niche for himself on RAW -- which is no easy feat.
Given that it has become a lot less of a selective thing to win a World Title, I can definitely see The Miz doing so. Especially if he went to SmackDown!, wrestled some great matches, kept his character, and really got some epic momentum going for him. He'd also be a perfect guy to wield the Money in the Bank briefcase. I think we're due for a face to win it, but The Miz in 2011 does not seem like a stretch.

If you made that bet in 2001 or so, I couldn't blame you.
And I agree with Noid that putting the MITB briefcase on The Miz would be gold, whenever that happens. Probably too soon for him to get it this year, but I could see him as the guy that always gets knocked off the ladder by the eventual winner.

I hope so but I don't think he will. He'll probably have a Kane-like career (minus the 24 hour title reign) always around the top but never on the top.

I think a great way for Miz to win the title would be to take down Cena for it. I'd like to see him beat down Cena with the case after his matches, teasing a cash-in, but challenging him to a legit match to actually win it (via fluke rollup).
That will probably never happen, but I think it would be a great way to get the belt on Miz, if even for a short time.

Up until his current heel character, I would have said no since it seemed like Morrison was outshining him during their time as a tag team and early split into post-tag singles career.
I would put him similar to Kofi and Morrison where the WWE is doing a slow push with main event quality matches every few shows but allowing his character to build up at the same time. I doubt they would push him right now like they did with Sheamus or ruin a push like they did with MVP on RAW but continue a slow build similar to Punk that takes another year or two.
