View Full Version : A question I'm submitting to PWInsider...but I want your thoughts on it, too.

With the news coming out that TNA will go head to head with WWE RAW every Monday night beginning in March, I got to thinking. I began to wonder if a "Friday Night War" would have been a better idea. I read that at first, Impact will be live one week, taped the next week, and so forth. WWE Smackdown is taped every week. I think at first TNA will have a rough time competing with WWE. I think they will do good numbers on March 8th, but will struggle against Monday Night RAW with the last 2 weeks of Wrestlemania buildup. But I think going live against a taped WWE show might do better for them. From what I read, Smackdown is a better show, but I lose interest in taped shows once I read the spoilers. And I know not everyone reads the internet, but I'm sure Bischoff, Hogan, and Carter would be more than willing to tell everybody that Smackdown is taped and the wonder of live TV could switch a few viewers over on Friday Nights. Thoughts?
Judging by what happened the last time a Bischoff and Hogan led company told people what was happening on the competition's show, I doubt it

I think a huge problem with going head to head with RAW on Monday nights is the huge discrepancy between the production of the two shows. I guarantee you that the casual wrestling fan who decides he's going to flip between RAW and Impact will very quickly lose interest in Impact.

Monday is the better choice for a few reasons. For starters, there's a much larger overall audience watching wrestling that night. That means that much more of the audience can potentially switch over if they get bored of what they're seeing on Raw.
Also, if viewer is new to TNA or hasn't watched in a long time, they probably haven't read the spoilers for that week. So that probably won't be a real worry. Not to mention that the casual audience doesn't really read spoilers.
The bottom line is if TNA has a tough time competing with WWE it's because their show isn't any good. Spoilers are the least of their worries right now.

Your judgement must be impaired then, because it actually worked for a time. You know there was like three years between WCW's high point and its crappy point. How about we stop taking things out of context just to make another company look bad? What a novel idea.
Clearly you missed the 6th and 7th words in my post wit
And how much of WCW's success was down to giving away spoilers on TV is pretty debatable

only thing bad about the change is for those who watch both shows will have to work harder in order to watch them
For example, in Canada, WWE is shown at 9:15-11:15 and with TNA moving to Mondays, I'd imagine their start time would be at 9:00..... and unless things change, they will not show a replay like WWE...... so I'll be forced to watch Impact, and tape the Raw replay at midnight..... which sucks.....
DVRs have two tuners now.
Unless ROH goes to 9-11, there are very easy ways to get around this.

TNA should put a 2-3 hour show on live for free up against Wrestlemania.
