What are your ideas on what could come in gimmicks or repackaging?

How about Fang from OVW dressed like a director, with him acting as a manager? That could be fun. It’s a character I’ve had in my head for awhile, but that’s just me.

An overly-obsessive wrestler who strides to be perfect. After every match, he's seen backstage re-watching the match. He then starts to plan out his offense, going as far as carrying a play book with him to the ring. Eventually, someone gets a hold of it and posts it on the WWE website. He then goes on a losing streak.

He then starts training with someone who has an entirely different style and adapts to it, allowing him to win again. Until his rulebook is stolen again, that is.

I've been saying this for a while now and my brother has told me it is an awful idea.

A narcoleptic wrestler. His gimmick would obviously be falling asleep during matches and at other bad times, like when he's trying to save a buddy or a tag partner wants to tag out.
He can get title shots and be dominating the entire match and, just as he's picking up his opponent to pull off his finisher and win a title, he falls a sleep and the opponent gets the pin.

It could work.

How about a guy who wins the lottery and buys his way on to the show despite having no wrestling ability at all. Has to pay to wrestle each match. Pays other wrestlers to give him "lessons" which only result in him losing even worse because they don't teach him fully (oh, so you wanted to know how to do that properly, you only asked how to do it, not how to do it properly, thats another $500!)

A feng shui guru. He'll refuse to fight unless everything from the rope colours, to the position of the commentery table is changed and moved to allow the flow of "positive energy".
Any loss will be blamed on "negative energy" because something wasn't the right colour or facing the right way.

I remember the vomiting gimmick, but have they tried the diarrhea gimmick yet? Everyone mocks the wrestler because there are shit stains on him and it drives him into a dangerous rage that assists him him winning matches.

And of course there's the gross-out move where he removes a shit-stained item of clothing and rubs it all over the opponent. Tell me this isn't WWE material.

Yeah, didn't they try the vomiting guy thing with Kenny Dykstra? I believe he did, and he was accompanied by Victoria who always carried at least a puke bucket, and possibly a bottle or two of water, and possibly an athletic towel...

Some sort of gimmick where the character will only appear when enough of the crowd is chanting his name, but will appear every time they do so. So if the face is getting beat down they could cheer for this gimmick and he'll appear to save him. If there is a boring match going on they could cheer and he'll spice it up somehow. The gimmick can't go past midcard though. He'd basically be the crowd's bitch but wouldn't be strong enough to change the outcome of the match, unless that's the way it is booked. A nice little thing to get the crowd more involved. It'd only work for face/anti heroes since the crowd wouldn't cheer for a heel to come out.

I've suggested this (jokingly) before, but a psychic wrestler who claims he can predict his opponents moves and such. He uses the gimmick to get into his opponent's head, as well as for catchphrases "You beating me tonight, MVP? It's not in the cards." Perhaps give him a harmless little winning streak, and then when it comes time for a PPV, he says he will give his predictions on WWE.com. Of course, since the event hasn't happened, you don't know whether or not he will be correct or not. It turns out he is -- about everything. They can repeat that for a while, and eventually backstage interviewers ask him what is going to happen. He can selectively give information, or what not.

Eventually, though, he calls another PPV, and he gets everything correct -- except for one match. He then attacks this guy the next show, because he was made to look like a hack.

How about a guy who hardly ever talks and The Undertaker feud? Have this lead up to Survivor Series with a Buried Alive Match. It becomes one-sided out of nowhere, and Undertaker buries him.

As Undertaker is doing whatever he’s doing every now and again, the lights start getting all white, the opposite of Undertaker’s appearance in darkness. This happens a few times, until it happens at the Royal Rumble, and then in the center of the ring is the guy in a new completely white get-up, and he wallops on Undertaker and whips him over the top rope. Have this end at WrestleMania 27.

Bring back the Mountie but with a twist. Instead it being a guy that's actually supposed to be a Mountie, he's actually just some deranged fuck who just thinks he's a Mountie and goes around shocking people with a cattle prod.

Slight twist, yea. But instead of a dorky, joke kinda gimmick, the guy is just plain psychotic and sadistic.

I started reading this thread, but had to stop after someone saying Kerwin White was a normal guy.

Are you fucking kidding me? Kerwin White was a man who felt that he was being held down because of his heritage. He eventually got so sick of it that he decided to denounce his heritage as a whole and just portray himself as 'normal'. The old 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' sorta deal. If that character would have run longer, I think many more dimensions could have come out of it and it would have been one of the better characters in WWE history.

The only thing the character was lacking as it were was a pronounced vicious streak. He was a little too 'happy' to be in the position he was in.

OK, sorry, back to the rest of the thread now...

No, they did it with Darren Drozdov who actually debuted under the name Puke.

Yeah, that would have been perfect for MVP. He could negotiate stipulations for MVP's matches or have him hold out on wrestling at all until things were exactly how they wanted them.

exactly, I also figured when they were going to book a wrestler to leave his stable he could always be on his cell phone or constantly favoring one wrestler as opposed to the one turning face. Kind of like a real sports agent does when one of his clients is hot at that time and one's career is winding down.

Abyss in the WWE? pppshaw!

I had Kevin Thorn in mind when he was in ECW and I came up with this idea. I would've had Thorn drafted to SmackDown in 2007 and began a feud with The Undertaker. Later on at Survivor Series, instead of facing Batista for the title, Undertaker faces Thorn in a Buried Alive Match and wins.

During the 2008 Royal Rumble, instead of having Shawn Michaels eliminate Undertaker, the lights get all white while Undertaker is in the ring, so bright that the fans have to cover their faces and can't see what's happening. When they go back to normal, Thorn is standing in the center of the ring looking exactly as he did when he was Mordecai (the only two things that I would've kept would've been the Kevin Thorn ringname and the Rope Stunner as his finisher). Mordecai wallops on Undertaker and whips him over the top rope, eliminating him from the match.

From there, they build up to the Mordecai vs. Undertaker match that we never saw at WrestleMania 24 instead of Edge vs. Undertaker for the title.

Yea, I guess. I always took the Mountie as being kinda cartoony though. Like I said, it would really only be a slight tweak from the actual Mountie gimmick.

02-18-2010, 06:25 PM
Unless you mean that the Mountie only thought he was really a Mountie and wasn't actually one. I always thought he actually was a Mountie. At least, my 5 year old self did.

NeanderCarl
02-18-2010, 06:56 PM
Yeah, I think Gorilla Monsoon would always remark on how Jacques Rougeau was deluded and thought he was a Mountie. You see the early 90s 'employment gimmicks' were more about how the wrestler used to do a certain job and carried those neccessary personality traits over into their new (clearly) full time career as a wrestler. Big Bossman wasn't a 'cop'; he was a former prison guard who brought his sadistic discipline to the WWF. I think Undertaker's early 'backstory' was fairly similar too.

It was only the mid 90s when all of a sudden we were meant to believe that these guys were only moonlighting as wrestlers for a little bit of extra pocket money on top of their day job as a plumber/garbage man/race car driver/teacher etc

redoneja
02-18-2010, 06:59 PM
Yea, I remember Bossman's backstory as a former prison guard. Just didn't really recall much about the Mountie. By the time I could really remember anything about the Mountie, he was a lower midcard jobber on the losing end of an 8 man tag at Mania VIII and then he disappeared only to return with a fat Mountie as a tag team. But then it turns out they're NOT [the] Mounties.
