View Full Version : I LOVED Deuce 'n Domino

I just read the thing on the main page about Domino returning and it got me all nostalgic. There are VERY few things that I genuinely love in wrestling right now. Shawn Michaels still being the best., everything CM Punk is doing, the potential of what John Morrison could become... that's about all I can think of.
But for all it's campiness and such, I LOVED Deuce 'n Domino. The gimmick was just fun and so well played. Every lame "greaser" stereotype and all just worked. I'm a fan of campy yet still realistic gimmicks. In an odd way, they are seriously one of my favorite tag teams of all time.

<font color=goldenrod>I strongly agree, I was a huge Deuce n' Domino mark. I enjoy gimmicks that are different, and they also happened to debut when I was in my senior year of high school and working on my high school's production of Grease. So, I've always loved them.
I really think Domino got the shaft when the team split up. He could have definitely been a decent comedy heel if they had given him some mic time. That vid #1-wwf-fan posted really shows how into the gimmick he was.
I also love that he's now going by his real name, Cliff Compton. Absolutely fantastic wrestling name. The Cliff Compton Show would be a million times better than The Abraham Washington Show. OHHHHHH!</font>

wait, they are returning to WWE????
Wow, this is really strange for me personally as I was literally thinking how much I really liked them as a team the other day and wanted to see them come back

So it's only Domino right?

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, just Domino. It's also not known whether or not he's actually been signed or if it was just a one-off...but given that he introduced himself as Cliff Compton and seemed to be involved in an angle, I'm guessing he signed. Makes me glad really, because last I had seen, he was out of wrestling after his WWE release.
Was never really as high on Deuce, just because he didn't make a believable greaser like Domino. I remember when Deuce was drafted to Raw, he was meant to be getting a "big" push as Snuka's son. That didn't quite work out.</font> :o

I actually didn't mind the Sim Snuka stuff. I would have liked to have seen him feud with Chris Jericho post-WrestleMania XXV to build off the tension Jericho had with daddy. Snuka could have gotten quite over as a face working with Jericho, I think.
I always liked Domino more than Deuce, so I am glad he is back. He is apparently good friends with Batista and CM Punk, so he's got a few people in power to get him a spot. I liked his gimmick idea where he hunted the top dogs in the WWE. That could be a very cool angle that could turn Cliff Compton into somewhat of a main event threat. The WWE needs to create new stars, right? It'd sort of be how TNA brought in Desmond Wolfe -- only with more than Kurt Angle on Compton's list.
And yes, Cherry was really, really hot.

lol. JBL not even paying attention at first and then "... the hell???"
Also, them getting upset and attacking the jobbers because they thought they were looking at their sister/girl was brilliant. Every one of their matches should have started that way. Just them being somewhat courteous to the opponents and then "Wait... you lookin' at my sister!?" "That's my girl. You lookin' at my girl!?"

And their finisher, Crack 'em in the Mouth was pretty cool, as well as I always lol'd every time the announcer would introduce them, as they were billed as being from "The Other Side of the Tracks".

I'm not really getting all this love for Deuce N' Domino. It's not that they suck or anything, it's just that I don't remember this many people actually sticking up for them when they were actually around. Retrospective appreciation?
One thing I thought they were saving, that I never actually saw them use, is their old OVW tactic of hitting someone with Cherry's skate. These guys were mainly let down by there not being enough quality tag teams to feud with, in my opinion.

<font color=goldenrod>I agree. The WWE as a whole seemed like it was slowly but surely rebuilding the tag division, SmackDown had Londrick, Regal & Taylor, and DnD as regular teams...plus several other loose alliances.
Then Londrick and Regal got drafted over to Raw, and the only team SD got in the draft were The Major Brothers, who had JUST debuted so nobody gave a shit about them yet. DnD held the belts throughout summer 2007 because there was nobody to defend the belts against. I think WWE blamed DnD for not generating enough heat even though they could hardly be blamed for not having anybody to have a program with. Then they dropped the belts to feed the MVP/Matt Hardy feud.
Even when new teams like Jesse & Festus debuted, DnD got kicked right to the curb. I don't think they won another match as a team after they lost the belts.</font>

I wish the WWE would just commit to a tag team division. It's not that hard, really. Even now, on SmackDown! anyway, there are quite a few tag teams that could be built up to resemble something legitimate:
Cryme Tyme
The Hart Dynasty
The Dudebusters (Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta)
The Georgia Boyz (Jimmy Wang Yang & Slam Master J)
Hard Knox (Mike Knox & Charlie Haas)
Keep in mind you have The Rotundos, The Uso Duo, whatever Joe Hennig & Brett DiBiase call themselves and a few other tag team guys under contract. Put Luke Gallows with a new member of The Straight-Edge Society and there's another team. It was also pretty silly to break up Carlito & Primo before their time. With Lance Cade under contract, and Wade Barrett being mentored by Chris Jericho, you could put Wade & Cade together as a tag team for a while. Or even better, just re-hire Trevor Murdoch to team with Cade.

<font color=goldenrod>Based on the recent FCW results I've read, Cliff Compton IS being worked in as a comedy heel. The main roster has plenty of comedy faces at this point, but not really any comedy heels. Would love to see him called up in the near future.</font>
