Cena and Rock took a page off the "End of an Era" playbook (what we saw last year...HBK, HHH and 'Taker embracing and all that). Cena vs Rock was the match everyone (ok, almost everyone) always wanted to see, and they had two go-arounds. What we saw at the end was their way of closing this chapter of their careers. People have to chill the fuck out. |
Good Mania overall. The matches ranged from decent to great and no real filler which is pretty odd for a WWE ppv. Punk-Taker was my match of the night while Cena-Rock's ending felt a bit anticlimactic but not as bad as most of his big matches for endings.
Biggest problem was up until Punk-Taker it didn't really feel like Mania with all the jobber-like entrances and lack of hype videos for the matches. Felt more like an episode of Raw since those matches got Raw recap/highlight type videos instead. Also didn't feel like the show was being rushed until it got to the Cena-Rock match which meant the 8-person tag was scrapped. The early matches were somewhat short but not rushed short while the later matches felt right and not dragging along for time. |
I'll always view this show differently having been there love but I'd assume most of be board is shitting on it.

I got banned during the broadcast here tonight. Must have been an accident.

This show badly needed Ziggler to cash in for a Wrestlemania moment. God knows why they didn't pull the trigger on that. Would have been perfect. They have banged on for years that the MITB holder can even cash in at Wrestlemania. This was the time.
|
my only complaint is that it was all too predictable. no real surprises.

Owenbrown, unless you want me to skull fuck you I suggest you stop editing my posts you hillbilly.

Some of my random WrestleMania thoughts:
* It would have been pretty amazing if Big Show had ripped off Ambrose's vest and underneath Ambrose has written some sort of message like "Let's go to war" or something on his chest. Would have made Ambrose seem really unhinged and insane. * If I were a woman I'd want Del Rio to father my child. Such a handsome man. He and Swagger had a really good match. * Since Del Rio retained the World Title and there wasn't a cash-in, I'm sort of hoping that Extreme Rules has Del Rio defend against Orton, Sheamus & Show in a Fatal 4 Way. Del Rio retains there and then Dolph Ziggler cashes in. Payback is the next PPV and payback can be what Del Rio has in mind. Chicago is a pretty smart audience, so I'm sure they'd love to see Del Rio and Ziggler have a bit of a clinic. * Punk wearing Taker's colors was awesome. I can't wait to hear Punk talk about his loss on RAW. Where does he go from here? Does he now respect The Undertaker? Does respect segue into a possible face turn? Does he take time off to "find himself" after the loss? Really interested. Maybe Punk goes right back after John Cena. I will never complain about those two wrestling each other. * So Triple H gets to keep his career. That's a good thing, but again my big question is "Where to from here?" Does Triple H follow this into "one more run?" Maybe Triple H retires under his own power on RAW? The Shield attacking Triple H during an implied retirement speech would lead quite nicely to Triple H finding two guys to face them at Extreme Rules. * John Cena and The Rock had a nice torch-passing moment. I'm not sure where either man goes now, but I'm interested. Basically, I felt that WrestleMania was a good advertisement for RAW this week. |

If this was your thought process, then, you know. You were gonna come out disappointed no matter what. I chose to just watch the show and get into each match, and in my opinion, this WrestleMania delivered. |
wouldn't be surprised to see Dolph cash in on RAW. Or maybe that's just me hoping, that post Mania RAW crowd would blow the roof off if he did I think
|
Drank beer and watched Wrestlemania with my friends tonight, always a good fuckin' time.
|
Yeah, the PPV was predictable, but that's OK. They were all good booking decisions. The only one I would question is Ryback losing to Mark Henry. I wonder what casual fans think of The Shield managing to win at their first WrestleMania? Or Fandango beating Chris Jericho? The heroes Triple H, The Undertaker, Del Rio, Bryan, Kane and John Cena rewarded the fans for their faith. Having them crumble for no good reason would have surprised us, but wouldn't have been the correct story to tell.
|
At this point, I feel like Dolph should just save his cash-in until right before the next MitB show. They could spin an interesting story out of "time is running out."

I think Jabba had a great idea this year with his Skype chat for WM. I say we make it a big deal for next year and get a group involved.
|
We had about 6 people in total, but a few of those didn't stay for the whole thing. The Vindicator and Owen Brown deserve special praise for sticking with it until the end.

Kind of feel like The Rock's story is done. He came back, he won the WWE Championship, he lost it and now he's passed the torch. I suspect that there will be a "thank you" speech with The Rock bidding the WWE Universe a sweet farewell before he is disrespected by a heel or three, lulling him into lacing the boots for Extreme Rules. I have been going on and on about the idea of John Cena and The Rock teaming up to face The Shield at Extreme Rules, but why not divide your powers a bit? Cena defends the WWE Championship in the main event while The Rock finds aid from some faces he feels comfortable teaming with to take on The Shield. It could be in the form of Team Hell No (that would lead to some entertaining segments), it could involve Ryback or it may even be his relatives in The Uso's, giving them the biggest rubs of their lives. |
|
pretty much thought all the matches were at least ok..
worst was Henry Ryback..cutting the 8 person tag was smart overall i enjoyed being at it...probably made it better that way |
At the end of the day, this is the decline of John Cena. There is nothing left for him to do, except to defeat Taker's streak. He has done it all. At this rate, he will be the guy to do it, I mean after you beat the Rock, I guess anything is possible.

Why did Ryback lose! Arg, stupid Henry being a mean big black guy. Would have thought Henry would lose weight once there were no more trinkies to buy.
|
It really worked out for Hurricane, huh.
|
|
I still think Mark Henry would make a tremendous serious babyface. Has he ever been one? As soon as he turns face it seems that the WWE moves him down the card and has him play a comedy undercard role.
|
There was a "Purple Aki" sign again at Wrestlrmania which was great. Purple Aki is a notorious big black pedophile from Liverpool (so black that he's purple) and a guy I know takes a sign there every year. Didn't know he was there this year though so it was good to see

Obviously, James Steele got to Triple H before the match. |
Yeah tho was really disappointed in Henry v Ryback. Was looking forward to that but it was really dull.

How come they didn't show Swagger's entrance?

I can't believe I had to work through this... Oh well. Nothing too unpredictable, Henry surprised me a little with the Ryback win. Cena winning surprised me a good bit. I really thought Rock was there to put that guy down for good. Oh well, cool that he had a title run and gave back. After Punk's long reign and a Rock session, I think the title has some good credibility. We'll see what happens with Cena from now on.
Goodbye TPWW, I think I'm done watching wrestling, I just can't get into it much anymore. Thank you for tolerating me. |
See you tomorrow at 8pm for RAW, Rock Bottom.
|
Reasons I loved tonight:
1. I didn't have to pay this year. 2. Surrounded by good friends and 2 actual wrestling fans for a change. 3. Good food and tons of running commentary. 4. Shouting for Patrick star 5. The cammys cooter sign 6. The matches. Expect a heavily worded review in tomorrow. |
Nothing amazing, but it certainly wasn't bad.
Rock vs Cena was probably my favorite. |
Rock vs Cena was a rematch......from wrestlemania 6. Ill explain that tomorrow but I'm sure I'm not alone.
|
Good, if uneventful PPV.
None of the matches came off as "great". Punk and Taker was determined to be a classic before it even happened. In reality, it wasn't really close to the last 4 Taker WM matches though. Ryback losing was pretty "lol" in a "What the fuck is this company thinking" kinda way. Good to see Triple H is finally getting put over. Not a bad PPV though. |

things I wondered about: Why no America the beautiful? Why the plain entrances for the Main Event? Were there any backstage skits that made the show? The only one I saw was on the preshow with Snooki and Miz. |
Somebody got their sign taken away in my section and there was a huge "You're an asshole chant" at the guard.
My #1 favorite sign probably didnt make it in, someone waiting in line had a "RIP XPAC'S BUTTHOLE 1971-2013" |
1. Pissed about that myself.
2. See above 3. No |

The next section over had the worst time with that pole because it blocked out the whole middle of the ring. I didnt really mind it myself as it was for me though

Overall I'm really glad to have gone. Punk/Taker was fucking awesome and I think the crowd was mostly dead after that match. Speaks volumes when 80,000 people boo the shit out of the feel-good handshake ending. That was the only part of the show I didn't like. If I had known it'd just be a handshake I would have left right at the final bell instead of sitting in non-moving traffic for 30 minutes. :o Glad to have finally gone to a Mania live.</font> |
Taker's eyes bulge out more than a human being's eyes should. It really is almost cartoonish.

|
Fucking Internet fans. At least get a photo from the correct event if your going to make shit memes.

Why must they go back?

Gonna go on the record and say that I really enjoyed this WrestleMania. Top to bottom
|
It was a good WrestleMania. It just didn't have any moment that will be forever ingrained in your mind until the end of time.

It wasn't a bad Wrestlemania. The end of the show seemed a bit lack-luster to me, and the crowd came across dead after Punk/Taker. I know I've harped on it a bit, but to me there were too many video packages which made the matches seemed rushed, but they were all fairly decent.
|
Before the main event I got tickets to MITB then realized, "Damn, Cena's gomg to have a long run as champ is he." Back to the WWE from 06-09. The ending would have been saved by a swerve from The Rock, but aside from that, WM was pretty good. There have been far worse ones.

Thought this year's Mania was a snoozefest outside Taker/Punk and HHH/Lesnar.
Felt like it really could have been a monthly PPV. |
Quote:
I know what your saying, but a fair part of the crowd popped when Cena won and would have gone home happy. And we all need to be honest, we all knew Cena was going to win and have had a couple of months now to come to terms with it. Can't wait to watch Raw to see where they go with him now. |
I never bitch about a Wrestlemania. I am satisfied each year that it is always a solid, quality show. This year though I find it hard to do that. Every match was absolutely meaningless in all honesty. Usually I am excited for Mania from the Rumble onwards. This year I only got a bit hyped up for it with a week to go. Until then I had no inkling at all that it was Wrestlemania season. If the matches had been great then I could have forgiven the non-existent build and meaningless outcomes. But they weren't. Undertaker and Punk was quite fun to watch but pretty sloppy and came nowhere near to the Undertaker's last 4 Mania matches. Triple H vs Brock was just boring really. Two part timers that hold little relevance to the current product and just put on a bog standard no holds barred match. Cena and Rock was alright and better than last year's but still quite sloppy. They don't have great chemistry and should never have had a rematch. Everything else was just standard PPV/Raw fare. Despite the awful build I was still hopeful that they could pull off a special show on the night. I've always said in the past that WWE could probably put a steaming pile of shit in the ring and make me care about it because it's Wrestlemania. Well they proved me wrong this year.
|
Yeah, gotta say neither HHH/Brock match interested me at all. I got drilled after SummerSlam for saying I thought their match was boring, and I felt the same today. Had a few moments, but I just couldn't get into it. Then again, they followed Punk/Taker which had me fairly pumped the whole match.
|
Well, they didn't waste any time....
http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aaiw...arge/07153.jpg If the T-Shirt is anything to go by, then Cena will also have custom side plates. |
I'll post my thoughts later today. Right now, I've got a class to go to.
|
So I'm not gonna bother reading through all the replies to see if this was addressed. Few questions.
1. What was up with Cole all night? He seemed to just disappear for long stretches at a time. And the announcing in general during the Rock/Cena match was awful. Long lulls of just nothing. 2. Continuing that thought; what was up with that match overall? It looked like they didn't have any script or 'story' for the match and just kinda ad-libbed the entire thing. And it looked awful. So many sloppy spots and the stupid finisher-fest contributed to 80% of the match. It seemed like they were just making it up on the go and goddamn it looked terrible. And the finish was lolbad but at least it wasn't Punk being beaten by the elbow. Anyhow, Taker/Punk was easily match of the night. HHH/Lesnar was decent. Enjoyed Del Rio/Swagger. How the hell did Jericho job to that guy on the biggest show of the year? Brutal. Overall the show was pretty meh. The whole affair felt rushed and disjointed. When factoring in how much they plan this show every year it amazes me that things weren't more fleshed out. crossrine |

|
Attended Wrestlemania last night..
1. Had a great time, thought crowd was very into it for the most part. 2. Undertaker - Punk was the match i enjoyed the most. 3. Thought Brock-HHH was a complete snoozefest. 4. Disappointed the mixed tag team match was cut. My fiance is a big Funkasaurus fan so needless to say she was disappointed as well. 5. Glad Fandango and the Shield won. 6. My view was completely obscured by the stupid columns. Very disappointing because I would have had great seats otherwise. |

LOL shut up. |
The undercard matches were good but nothing to brag about that we couldn't have seen on another PPV or RAW. I feel like at least having some kind of gimmick match (ladder, cell, TLC, cage?) would have added an extra dimension to the show and given it more of a WM feel. It did feel like the show overall was rushed and they were worried about time constraints, but then it actually ended in less than 4 hours.
Punk/Taker was definitely match of the night. Undertaker's entrance was really cool. The match wasn't as good as Taker's last 4 WM matches, but it was still really good. My wife commented on how tired Punk looked during his entrance and I thought the same thing, but both men did a great job telling a story. HHH/Lesnar was quite boring honestly. With as involved and as good as Heyman was in the feud, I was surprised that Heyman didn't have more of a role in the match, but maybe they felt like he was involved enough with Punk/Taker. Rock/Cena was much better than their match last year, but I also wasn't crazy about the finish. I just felt like there was no reason for Rock to be pinned at that point. I mean they'd both taken each other's finishers multiple times, why was that AA so different. Now if it had been off the top rope or through a table or something, I could buy that a little more. Also, I noticed there was a good 10-15 minutes left after the match and I kept waiting for something to happen. A Cena turn, a Rock turn, a Ziggler cash in, something!?! What's gonna happen?! NOTHING. Instead we get 10 minutes of Rock standing in the ring, walking back up the ramp, and then the over the top dual face arm raise. It all just felt way too anticlimactic to end a Wrestlemania. |
<font color=goldenrod>I found Taker/Punk to be better than the Taker/HHH WM 27 match and about on par with WM 28. It wasn't at the level of Taker/HBK but not too many matches ever will be.
Taker and Punk both just "get it". The match flowed way better than both Lesnar/HHH and Rock/Cena. Both of those matches had their moments but there was pretty much nothing in between.</font> |
Keith, to be far, I went too and crowd was not into the match hugely until the final minutes.
Really glad to see I went to Mania, which was the first show I've ever attended, crowd was amazing, set/stage was amazing, and my seats were last row on the first tier but still good visibility. Crowd was utterly berserk for Taker-Punk, and the bottom half of Rock-Cena. A real sour note, though, was the 351 bus service back to NY. Looked like a queue of 10,000 for the bus and even though I was near the front of the line (relatively speaking), still took 45-60 minutes to board, standing room only. |
<font color=goldenrod>The fact that every match got time is what made this Mania stand out. I was seriously worried there was going to be at least one, maybe two really short matches that served no purpose...and ultimately while I feel bad for the people involved in the 8 person tag getting bumped off of the show, if that match happened I have no doubt it would have been about 3 minutes tops.
When Fandango started dancing after the bell rang in the Jericho match, I immediately started telling my friend next to me that he was about to get Codebreaker'd immediately and the match would be over. Was pleasantly surprised when that didn't happen.</font> |
Taker/Punk was by far best match last night. Love Heyman and Punk together. They are both so good.
Sheild match was expecting more from. Suprised it opened. Glad they won but was expecting a little more from that match. Hated they missed opportunity for the Orton Turn. Also glad Team Hell No won but was wishing it was because Dolph was cashing in later. Well... yea. Didn't happen. Going off the post show stuff sounds like Del Rio Swagger going least another PPV if not next 2. HHH/Brock was solid as well. Heyman was alot of that. Laughed so hard that f-5 took HBK out so long on the floor. I mean c'mon just a few years ago he took like 20 tombstones to beat him lol We shall see where things go but with the part timers leaving and Punk maybe being off a while, it might be a long couple weeks ahead. |

It was entertaining, but at almost 4 hours I'm completely drained, I'm glad the 8 man tag got bumped, they can just do it on Raw.
Something that sickened me though was the fan who had a sign that had an arrow pointing up on it and the caption 'Caution Blue Blazer'. I hope that cunt got the shit kicked out of him afterwards. How that sign didn't get confiscated it beyond me, it was on camera at least 3 or 4 times. |
