Third and final part of Lagana's stories on booking Punk in 2007

Punk still is facing some of the same problems with creative and agents but lucky for him this time Vince changed his mind on Punk and scrapped a bunch of plans that wouldn't have led to the amazing finish at Money in the Bank or the current plans of Punk vs Cena at Summer Slam.

I think a report said there was 6 plans for Summer Slam and none dealt with Punk even though his momentum is red hot and he helped bring a lot of interest in the WWE from the public.

Xero 07-30-2011 07:46 PM

Punk is basically in Vince's ear at this point. I'm fairly certain he's fighting for his angles now more than ever, and that's good, and it's what Vince likes and respects but is something that rarely happens because everyone's scared shitless of him.

I'm intrigued by the rumors that CM Punk is trying to get Cliff Compton re-hired. Compton denied having any interest in wanting to return on Twitter...but on his Facebook page he's mentioned many a time over the past couple of years that he's been in talks. Also any time somebody says to him that he deserves another chance, he always agrees. Think he even wrestled some FCW shows last year.

Talented guy, been a fan of his ever since the Deuce 'n Domino days. His podcast with Colt was hysterical and only made me like him more. I like him in the ring but if he was primarily a talking character that could definitely work too.

So, question, realistically.

Should Cena have some fresh wins over Punk, or do we wanna see Punk continuing to beat him clean (mostly)? Do we see CM Punk taking over this top spot?

What do you think the smart move is? Cena heel turn comes to mind, but will that happen?

Mr. Pierre 08-01-2011 07:40 PM

I think Punk is going to lose due to Triple H interference without Cena noticing during the match. It makes progress and continues a feud that has plenty of legs with Cena vs. Punk, and even plants seeds for the start of Punk vs. Triple H for Mania.

What Would Kevin Do? 08-01-2011 07:47 PM

HHH needs to strip CM Punk of the belt. It has to happen if WWE wants to go forward with Cena vs Del Rio, and keep all the momentum going. Having Punk lose the belt to Cena or Alberto slows his momentum. Plus, Punk will obviously get a rematch, so that won't help.

Instead, have HHH strip him of the belt, declaring Cena the one true champ. Also, state that since CM Punk didn't RENEW his contract, but instead let it expire, that CM Punk has lost all seniority, and the perks that go along with it. Essentially, CM Punk has to start over from the bottom again.

That would let CM Punk continue to be awesome, build himself up, get out of the world title picture for a bit, and build towards a feud with HHH. It's a win win.

Sounds good to me. Plenty of heels for him to eat.

Honestly, if they were ever going to turn him, now's the time. For the first time since the Cena era began, there's someone who's moving more merch, creating more buzz, and getting bigger reactions. They wouldn't make the move while Cena was untouchable as the top guy. But now that there is a legitimate contender for the crown, now's as good a time as they're likely to ever have.

Let's be honest, WWE may have two top guys now but Cena's merch sells to the kids and Punk's to the adults. Why would they wanna throw the kiddie dollar away with a heel turn when they can have both?

Watching Cena vs. Rey the other week for the title I had the overwhelming feeling it was Cenas turn moment.

But I havent seen any wrestling in a LONG time now. It just felt like the moment, hot crowd.Would have been awesome I feel if Cena cheat to Beat Rey.

Got a feeling Rock's gonna surprise us all(since no one seems to be thinking he'll be there) and cost Cena the title at Summerslam which sets up something at the survivor series. Would love to see this happen.

Think it's more likely Cena wins only to be thwarted afterward by Alberto Del Rio cashing in his MITB and once again having to chase the WWE Championship again.

Londoner 08-04-2011 04:31 PM

Don't think ADR will cash in for a while actually, no point in adding him into all this yet.

Xero 08-04-2011 04:38 PM

Del Rio is going to be champion going into the Mexico tapings or will cash in there, I'm pretty sure of that.

Mr. Pierre 08-04-2011 04:40 PM

I'm assuming WWE is going to sell out every show regardless of who's champion since they're never there. It would seem a bit ridiculous to just slap the title on Del Rio just because the company is in Mexico for a week.

Xero 08-04-2011 04:42 PM

I agree, but having a hometown world champion is going to look good. At least I'm sure that's their mindset.

when is that?

Aguakate 08-05-2011 05:05 AM

October

Londoner 08-05-2011 05:12 AM

That's around the time i was thinking he might cash it in actually.

Rock Bottom 10-29-2011 06:58 PM

Bumpity bump.

SPOILER: show
Punk is gonna fight Mark Henry the day after tomorrow, and if he wins, he gets a shot at Del Rio for SummerSlam. Thinking the only thing that makes sense is a Big Show run-in to piss Henry off enough to fight him again. Or maybe Henry can beat the shit out of Punk and get DQ'd or something. Maybe Del Rio himself will run in. Since it's up to John Laurinaitis, Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager, whether or not Punk gets a title shit at Survivor Series, anything can happen!

teamXtremist 10-30-2011 07:15 PM

ill admit it i used to like punk his style and inring work is good.He got stale on me but the new punk i can dig, he is great on the mic and has given wwe a much needed kick in the ass

SummerSlam was 2 months ago...

Rock Bottom 10-31-2011 12:08 AM

Thank you Eklipse. Just to clarify, I meant the Survivor Series!
