Its crazy just watching its been abandoned. Inter :(

LK 04-12-2005 05:42 PM

Game in Milan has been abandoned. Tried to restart it but the flares just kept coming.

Mike the Metal Ed 04-12-2005 05:56 PM

:nono: @ Inter v Milan

AC go through now though.

Wengerland 04-12-2005 06:00 PM

Not seen the Inter game yet, i'll check out the highlights later.

Chelsea through, a bit lucky i suppose but overall it was deserved.

Also, Luton are up i believe.

I would like to clarify that this was said on the assumption that Shay Given would be playing. With Given pretty certain to miss the second leg i really doubt Newcastle can hold out as i don't really rate Harper :(

toxic rooster 04-12-2005 07:57 PM

Munich left it way too late. Shame too, those 2 goals could have made it hell interesting if they'd been scored about 10 minutes earlier [/obvious]

yianni 04-13-2005 02:31 AM

Flares are magnificent in adding colour to games but it's disgraceful when they are thrown onto the field. Disgraceful by the Inter fans...the sad thing is those sorts of incidents happen regularly in Greece and other areas around Europe especially, with flares, bottles, seats etc being piffed on field and hitting or just missing players, officials etc. :nono:

Some pics I found (I haven't seen the incident yet but I will later today)

Which, of course, they won't.

toxic rooster 04-13-2005 05:53 AM

Also in that bottom picture yianni posted, you can see 2 flares about to be launched [/obvious]

yianni 04-13-2005 06:36 AM

Gooner that arseblog.com thing is a load of shit regarding UEFA being harsher on English clubs than the rest. What about when Roma got the punishment of having 3 home matches behind closed doors after that incident with the coin hitting Frisk in the head on Matchday 1 of this season's Champions League?

If an English club's supporters chuck flares onto the pitch and hit a player like Inter's fans did they'd get the same sanctions. English clubs were banned from European competitions cos there were incidents in stadiums where cunts died as a result of English hooligans, like Heysel 1985. On that note, I hear there'll be a beef up in security for Juventus-Liverpool tomorrow cos some Juve supporters may feel like "revenge" for that terrible day 20 years ago.

Back to the flares, I thought they were banned fullstop in the Champions League?

toxic rooster 04-13-2005 06:51 AM

Heysel wasn't entirely Liverpool fans' fault, though

To be fair the idiots who stuck up a chicken wire "fence" should have had a bit more sense. In fact the game should probably have never been played there in the first place. Fact is, English hooliganism has died down compared to a few decades ago, the Italians appears to be on the rise and it might take a few deaths for something to be done about it.

And flares should be banned full stop from games, I don't understand what purpose they serve.

toxic rooster 04-13-2005 07:30 AM

The "neutral" section was just asking for trouble.

Liverpool fans have never said that at the end of the day it wasn't the fault of a number of our fans who caused the deaths of 39 Juventus fans. It was our fault, and Liverpool FC have never shyed away from taking the blame.

Despite this, there were a number of contributing factors which resulted in the incidents, things which were not the fault of Liverpool and would possibly have saved the lives of those people.

The stadium was a complete shithole, it was falling apart. The fans were not segregated properly and the security officer did absolutely nothing to prevent a confrontation between the fans from happening. A lot of people forget that the Juventus fans were throwing things at the Liverpool fans, but of course, the end result is what always happens with hooligans..... its the proper fans who end up getting hurt.

Liverpool fans were responsible for what happened, but I am telling you right now, that if fans from 2 countries were put in an unsegregated area at the European Cup final, then another Heysel disaster would be very very possible

Dudek, Finnan, Hyppia, Carragher, Traore, Riise, Alonso, Biscan, Nunez, Garcia, Baros

Not a bad side at all

True now you are holding your hands up but to many Juventus fans its all a case of too little too late. I admit I've only watched football for 10 years or so but I can't remember anything from Liverpool about remembering Heysel (sp?) before they were drawn against each other this year. Since then its been like PR city (and rightfully so) but before that I don't remember much about the whole thing from Liverpool.

Cactus Sid 04-13-2005 04:34 PM

Liverpool fans remember Heysel, they just don't make it that public because we are ashamed of what happened, this has been the perfect chance to publicly say that the Liverpool fans of 2005 are sorry for what happened. I'm not gonna have a go at the Juventus fans who turned their backs on everything, like the media did, because I can understand how, to some people, its completely unforgivable what happened.

So, 0-0 at half time. Zambrotta is destroying us down their left and Nunez has looked truly inept. Xabi ain't gonna last 90 minutes, and Baros is not trying as hard as he could.

Played well in defence, but I can't see it lasting 90 minutes.

Wengerland 04-13-2005 04:40 PM

It's a terrible game really, but if Liverpool go through then i won't mind.

Lyon are heading through aswell

Nervous Ferret 04-13-2005 04:43 PM

why were they allowed to have flares? BADS SECURITY

Nervous Ferret 04-13-2005 04:44 PM

only complete an utter assholes would let a bunhc of drunk fans inside a stadium witgh thousands of people inside, with flares. You could kill somebody with one. Sure I guess the look nice, but guns are nice, should every fan have a gun?

packt up 04-13-2005 04:58 PM

This is the most boring game I've ever seen.

Word on Baros he's been wank for a long while now.

In stoppage time - If Juve score it'l be a travesty.

Don't be such a tool

It was an exciting game for Liverpool and Juventus fans

If you didn't care who won then you'd find it boring

Cactus Sid 04-13-2005 06:26 PM

I actually thought the second half was quite entertaining

Wengerland 04-13-2005 06:33 PM

Well done Liverpool, English side guaranteed in the final now

Juventus were really worse than i'd have expected.

Lyon lost on pens to PSV :(
