And yeah the Giants won before but it wasn't in San Francisco so it's not like San Franciscans knew what they were missing out on.

If Texas would've won nobody would've called it an end to 49 years of torture because the Rangers had never won a title before.

Also "What?" @ 56 years of "losing." You've had 34 winning seasons out of 52 seasons in San Fran. Not to mention you had both the greatest all around player of all time and the all time home run leader on your teams. If that's what passes for tortured, I'm moving to Guantanamo.

Actually, winning seasons followed by a disappointing postseason is far more stressful, or torturous, than an uneventful losing year. So by the statistics you've so graciously provided, we've had more stressful years than not. But of course, the context of my previous statement was obvious. 56 years of not winning a world championship.

So okay, by your logic Cubs fans aren't really going through torture, since they don't know what they're missing out on? It's been 100 years, safe to assume the city has nearly forgotten the feel of their last world championship. Go watch Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. Watch all the crying fans. I assure you, they know what they're missing out on.

I have received multiple texts telling me I look like Andres Torres. Fail.

Tb1 11-02-2010 04:35 PM

Andres Torres has a stronger jawline

What are you talking about tb1. You completely missed the point. Cubs fans are the best example of tortured fans. The whole point is that past success brings expectations and entitlement. Nobody in San Francisco had any connection to a world champion baseball team. They can't look at past San Francisco teams and say look at when we were the best. They can't look at a time when their city had the best baseball team in the world. There's no emotional connection to the New York teams.

So just like fans in Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Tampa, DC, there is no connection to past championships that would "torture" fans like there is in Chicago and Cleveland.

Also I don't even know how you can argue this when you didn't even mention you were a fan until the Giants were in contention.

They can look at today.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 06:29 PM

They're not "tortured" fans today you fucking asshole.

What? There is absolutely an emotional connection between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Giants. The 1954 World Series may have been won by the New York Giants, but it's still a Giants victory. "The Catch", "shot heard 'round the world" are huge in the bay area.

The whole "your city has to win to be tortured" thing is stupid. There's been plenty of torture for this team, and it's fans for years. You can't just throw on this stipulation and null any frustrations non-pennant winning fans have.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 06:40 PM

You're right I can't. Just like you can't reference some disappointing postseasons and call it torture.

The ones caught in the riots likely are.

I am not a Giants fan or even really a baseball fan. I tagged along during the NCLS because it was fun. tb1 on the other hand has indeed been a Giants fan since he was like 4 years old. His entire family is absolutely fucking nutty about the Giants and always have been. His dad would probably sell his children for Giants tickets.

Juan 11-02-2010 07:57 PM

Again, the "torture" gimmick has nothing to do with the 56 years since the last WS win, it was an on going joke about the 2010 season.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 08:05 PM

Well that's not what hardcore Giants fans are saying, Juan.

Juan 11-02-2010 08:07 PM

Yeah, looks like it has taken a life of its own.

RoXer 11-02-2010 08:21 PM

I disagree with Supreme

RoXer 11-02-2010 08:23 PM

In fact, anything that happens before you were born is irrelevent as a fan. In any sport.

Triple Naitch 11-02-2010 08:34 PM

Agree with RoXer. "We've been suffering for over 100 years." Really? We? You're 27.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 08:40 PM

Nah you guys just don't know anything.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 08:40 PM

Especially Joey "I can't pick a team" Roxer.

RoXer 11-02-2010 08:41 PM

Really?

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 08:42 PM

No not really.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-02-2010 08:49 PM

 you all (not Narc)

RoXer 11-02-2010 08:51 PM

me too (not tb1)

Pretty much.

I managed to mix up one of his wins as another Halladay win when he lost the 2nd game to Halladay. ESPN counted his 3rd game in relief against the Phillies as a "win" on his game log but he didn't get the result.

So he actually went 4-1 instead of 5-1 in the playoffs.

If either the Giants or Rangers let any of their pitchers go to the Yankees, WE RIOT!
