Knowing Vince & Co., Nikki will probably make Ronda tap.

I'll watch it and I hope it's good, but I'm expecting it to be a mess. |
I think it's probably the most they've botched one of their own PPVs since the infamous ECW brand's December To Dismember that was scheduled for one week after Survivor Series and Vince forbid anything but the main-event being announced more than a week in advance b/c he was worried D2D would 'take attention away from Survivor Series' otherwise.
|
In fact, IIRC Vince put all the blame for the show being a disaster on Paul Heyman and fired him almost immediately after the show. Heyman/Vince had clashed about Lashley winning the title at the show as Heyman wanted Punk to leave as champ but Vince was all about pushing Lashley as the face of the ECW brand at the time.

I am genuinely curious as to how they'll book the RAW Women's Championship match. Will it be "one-and-done" or will we see a screwy finish with Stephanie interfering?
|
You're right!
Also they had only announced two matches for the show before it aired, the main-event and a tag match between Hardy's and MNM (John Morrison/Joey Mercury). And the show wasn't even 2 1/2 hours long, which Vince again blamed completely on Paul Heyman, who wasn't allowed to book anything for the show really more than a few days in advance. |
This was very confusing at the time

One of the reasons why Johnny Nitro/Morrison/Impact has heat with WWE..... I never knew this existed until 3 minutes ago....

Suprusingly relevant in 2018 though

People are gonna be soon pissed when Charlotte vs Becky is in the 1st hour cause Ronda/Nikki is the main event

I remember reading that Heyman did want Punk to win but Vince wanted Lashley to win, like you said but I also remember reading that Vince wanted Lashley to have a fifteen or twenty minute celebration in the ring after he won the title but Heyman was dead against it. Heyman also warned Vince and told him that the fans would throw it back in his face if that happened but Vince didn't listen to him and he went ahead with his plans anyway. After the event, Vince wasn't happy at all with the reception the event got from fans so he blamed Heyman for December To Dismember's failure and the fan's reaction to Lashley's title celebration, so Heyman walked out of the company but remained under contract until Vince fired him. |
I also remember reading that after the event, Tommy Dreamer and Steven Richards both asked to be released from their contracts because of how the event turned out but both Vince and John Laurinaitis refused their requests.
|
Thought I remember Heyman saying, as a compromise, to let Punk tap out Show, give him a good, long showing while still having Lashley win but giving Punk the rub. Which would've been a much better idea.

Same person who complained backstage after AJ Lee gave the "Pipebomb 2.0" promo which is why that led to nowhere afterwards and can't stop blabbering about Cena whenever asked about her relationship and Total Divas in public. Probably why WWE let her do a "worked shoot" on Ronda about her mom as some sort of appeasement. |
She should have just screamed "Say it to our faceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" over the promo.

Great game, then they built on it and made Wrestlemania and No Mercy.

I think the issue is that it has become too much. Like with anything, a lot of it is fun in moderation. A goofy spot or a comedy match should be a palette cleanser. As should a hardcore brawl. As should a match chock full of "flippy shit". Problem is, now the wrestlers on every match of every indy show think all three of those thongs should happen in every match. It's too much, which makes it hokey. It's why I personally dislike Young Bucks matches... I get the whole rebellion thing works for them, and that's fine, but the "a match isn't good unless it has at least one dive" philosophy makes dives not special. Cramming 800 finishes into a match before it is even halfway done might be ok periodically, but not every. single. match. Even the Joey Ryan dick flip was funny IN CONTEXT of the first time it was done (wrestling a guy who always went for a testicular claw, and having him suggest Ryan not only not sell, but actually reverse it because "American penis so big; so strong"): something that has been long since lost in all the time afterwards spent either having someone like Cornette only see the clip and focus on the spot itself or Joey making his penis into his whole one-dimensional gimmick. It was a time and place thing that was only good a hand full of times (not a pun). Instead, it was run into the ground. |

As for Joey Ryan, I have said that one spot was only funny the one time and it had everything to do with it being a counter to Danshoku Dino. I prefer his Chase Stephens bit where he was a typical white meat babyface who just happened to be gay. His whole bit at All In was not worth watching, and I had to explain that to my Dad, who's 75. |

Besides being upset over Ronda's promo a couple weeks ago, Nikki Bella is now upset that the word "Diva" has a negative stigma to it. Probably because she's currently the most high profile person and symbol from that era and its poor quality left in the WWE.
Quote:
She's already been public before about being upset that people have a low view of Total Divas and not crediting it with the start of WWE's Women's Revolution instead of NXT. Same for legit thinking it was her match and people wanting to see the Divas brand wrestle more that caused fans to revolt. Real reason was fans hated how WWE refused to fix their handling of the main roster women and didn't want to see the more talented NXT women suffer the same piss break fate. |
There is one person who can be credited with the Women's Revolution. And her last name isn't Bella or McMahon. Also, her first name isn't AJ or Paige.
It was Sara D'Amato. She went from being one of the best women's wrestlers in the world (who Vince didn't hire because she was too "old" and "ugly") to training the girls and her track record is amazing. No Sara, no Women's Revolution. End of story. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/C_bW6kZvgUs" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I really wish they'd let Amato have at least one match on WWE television.

No coincidence that once he got fired from the job, the skill level of WWE's hiring of women afterwards started to shoot up in quality. Less preference on Ace's wiener as the judge and more towards having actual wrestling skills or other skills that could be molded into being a good wrestler. |
