Not many shows merit games anyway.

Wouldn't it be a funny twist if they did a Voltron game based on the Vehicle Voltron and it was more popular and successful?

Kalyx triaD 02-25-2012 07:22 PM

Fuck it, let's get some of that action. But watch it get developed by the guys who released this silliness.

Kalyx triaD 02-25-2012 07:25 PM

And just so everyone's clear:

This thing was released on core consoles in the year 2012.

Quoted both because they tie together sort of.

When I looked at the visuals, I was thinking it looked like a Wii game (at best). Out of curiosity, I looked up the game to see who developed it and looked at their credentials. This was handed to a group who seem to primarily do Wii and DS versions of games. There's also some multiplat and PC titles in there, but in recent history especially, it seems Wii and DS versions of games are their bread and butter.

Which kinda explains this game.

I also checked out a video of a Robeast Battle, and holy crap, that is boring as fuck.

But yeah, the game seems to be kind of a mess. The cartoon shots clash with the game footage, and the Voltron scenes clash with both. I can't believe they have Quicktime events while you watch the cartoon formation sequence. That's stupid on many levels, and probably a good reason they don't let you try the sequence. Combining the worst elements of QTEs and Turn Based combat is annoying as fuck, too.

Plus, it's mostly a twin stick shooter. There should be better controls for a game where the primary elements of the game are "move" and "shoot."

Kalyx triaD 02-25-2012 10:29 PM

I can't help but think giant robot lions shouldn't control like that. That was strike one, the visuals I could forgive. So I went YouTubing for more gameplay and saw more out of place stuff. The kicker was the actual Voltron sequences. I can understand having a hard time finding a way to have five people participate in this case, but the turn based whatever-it-is was ugly.

Kane Knight 02-25-2012 10:45 PM

I could sorta get used to the robot lions control if the rest of the game was solid.

Kalyx triaD 02-25-2012 11:16 PM

The Voltron bits were MAKE or BREAK for me. Probably should have went with a completely on-rails shooter thing. Something like Panzer Dragon on the ground with 5 players. Omit Voltron sections if you can't get it right.

Kane Knight 02-25-2012 11:22 PM

Now I really want other 80s cartoon games, but they'd probably screw 'em up too.

Thundercats would be awesome in many formats.

Kalyx triaD 02-25-2012 11:28 PM

I see a badass beat-em-up with Thundercats. OR a coop dungeon crawler with heavy action gameplay. OR a fighting game made by ArkSys. Perhaps an RTS.

Kane Knight 02-25-2012 11:53 PM

I'd play any of those but the RTS. Not a big RTS fan.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2012 12:21 AM

Just riffin here.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2012 12:21 AM

The Thundercats signal could be a team buff or something.

Kane Knight 02-26-2012 01:58 PM

Apparently, instead of Pokémon Grey, we're getting sequels. Black/White 2.

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2012 02:31 PM

Do a core sequel for consoles already.

With Nintendo, it'll probably be a full-priced remake of Pokémon Red/Blue (Or Red/Green, if they go that way).

Kalyx triaD 02-26-2012 02:51 PM

Watch me buy three copies anyway, and the MewTwo DLC (if their recent Nintendo Network and 3DS releases are anything to go by).

Since my only Nintendo device is a DSI, I haven't been paying attention. Do they actually have DLC along the lines of extra content at this point?

Kane Knight 02-26-2012 03:12 PM

Just wondering. I remember Nintendo folks saying they weren't planning on online passes and DLC stuff for "core" titles, though they were probably lying anyway. But one of the big deals was the fear that Wii-U would switch to facilitating online passes.

Kane Knight 02-26-2012 03:13 PM

Shouldn't say "lying." Should really say "full of shit."

They do for the 3DS but not sure if any of it has actually arrived yet like Fire Emblem getting free DLC as its first pack.

The Wii and DS actually had DLC content but it was tied more to a few games (ex. Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Picross 3D) than an actual standard service.

Kane Knight 02-26-2012 03:45 PM

Yeah, they had to jump through hoops to accomodate that too.

I was more concerned with something core. Pokémon, being a Nintendo-owned franchise, is of more concern. Especially since it'd be a perfect place to sell additional content.

I liked the first three Law and Order PC games. Jerry Orbach does voice over work in them.

I enjoyed a few of the CSI games too even though I hate the series. I wonder how that NCIS game is? It probably sucks.

A poll to see which Street Fighter Characters will be included in an upcoming Street Fighter version of Monopoly. :y:

Cool King 02-27-2012 05:32 PM

I voted for Vega (Claw).

Kane Knight 02-27-2012 05:33 PM

Given't it's Capcom, won't the most popular options be left out?

Cool King 02-27-2012 05:35 PM

To me, I seems pretty pointless to include Ryu and Ken as they're both pretty much the face of Street Fighter, so obviously they would have to be included in the board game.

Adding them in the poll sort of takes away votes from the other characters. :-\

A couple of EA news with a big announcement set for GDC, a Simpsons mobile game in the works, and more details on Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

EA teases they have a big announcement planned for March 6 during this year's GDC conference with rumors ranging from either details on the future of the Mass Effect franchise (same day as Mass Effect 3 is released), NBA Live 13 getting an official debut, or Crysis 3 getting its debut.

A new Simpsons game called "The Simpsons: Tapped Out" is in development for mobile devices with iOS devices getting the game first and Android devices in the future. The game will be a free-to-play game and involves the player fixing up the city after Homer accidentally triggers a nuclear incident at the plant. The game will be using doughnuts as in-game currency with the ability to purchase additional doughnuts with real money.

EA announces they are planning for an October release window for Medal of Honor: Warfighter with the multiplayer allowing a wider range of Tier 1 organizations to be playable. The game will have a co-op story campaign separate from the single player campaign. Also confirmed are all the missions in the game are based on real-life events.

Capcom is currently involved in a public relations mess after a reality show they host called "Cross Assault" ended up in the company apologizing to both contestants affected and the public in general.

The show is meant as a weekly series of episodes with each episode consisting of several days to help promote the company's upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken game. The episode in question had its issue occur on Day 1 and by the end of the week became a huge PR mess for Capcom.

The recent episode ended up spiraling out of control when one of the contestants on the Tekken team tried to explain how sexual harassment is a perfectly reasonable experience by stating how the fighting community and gaming in general sees it as a normal thing and not as a bad or serious issue.

Quote:

Competitive fighting gamer Aris Bakhtanians has prompted some ire with inflammatory comments he made during a recent episode of Capcom's "Cross Assault." "Cross Assault" is a promotional competitive web-TV series that pits a team of Tekken players against a team of Street Fighter players. On the show, Bakhtanians made remarks about the entrenched sexism in the fighting game scene, and how it was fine if things never changed.

Giant Bomb's Patrick Klepek has posted a thorough story on the matter. Included in the story is a transcript of Bakhtanians from one one of the episodes. His response when asked, "Can I get my Street Fighter without sexual harassment?":

You can't. You can't because they're one and the same thing. This is a community that's, you know, 15 or 20 years old, and the sexual harassment is part of a culture, and if you remove that from the fighting game community, it's not the fighting game community—it's StarCraft. There's nothing wrong with StarCraft if you enjoy it, and there's nothing wrong with anything about eSports, but why would you want just one flavor of ice cream, you know? There's eSports for people who like eSports, and there's fighting games for people who like spicy food and like to have fun. There's no reason to turn them into the same thing, you know?

Later, when asked about whether shouting "Rape that bitch!" at a match is acceptable behavior, Bakhtanians replied, "Look, man. What is unacceptable about that? There's nothing unacceptable about that. These are people, we're in America, man, this isn't North Korea. We can say what we want. People get emotional."

The Giant Bomb story also shares some of the reactions and discussion generated during the program, including responses from one of one of the female competitors on the show, Miranda "Super_Yan" Pakozdi. Pakozdi voiced disappointment about the events of the day on Twitter, though she eventually deleted the tweets.
When asked about racial slurs, Bakhtanians said the fighting community knows those are jokes and shouldn't be taken seriously regardless of its context or content. Prior to being allowed as a contestant on the show, he was also known to find no issue in using homophobia terms nor having any tolerance towards actual gay players in the community.

Giant Bomb's article on the same story goes a lot deeper in both the details and reaction to the episode.

“The sexual harassment is part of the culture. If you remove that from the fighting game community, it’s not the fighting game community… it doesn’t make sense to have that attitude. These things have been established for years... That’s what you’re trying to do to the fighting game community and it’s not right,” Aris continued. “It’s ethically wrong.”
