The advertised matches felt like an edition of Rampage. Tony Khan has spent so long making sure nothing matters that he can’t suddenly click his fingers and make things important. It's hard to make people care again.

You’re not alone. You’d think even their most ardent proponents would admit that about them. The people who can’t stand them can’t stand them for reasons, but that’s constantly ignored by people who want to pretend they’re revolutionizing wrestling or whatever.

Doesn’t look good for next week either. I just read a preview and you’ve got:

* Jade Cargill, Red Velvet & Leila Grey vs. Kiera Hogan, Madison Rayne and Skye Blue — the problem being the woman’s division sucks. The Jade/Kiera stuff seems a bit rushed and there is no reason to care about her new relationships.

* Daniel Garcia & Jake Hager vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta — no one cares about Garcia, Yuta or Hager. Claudio has proven Vince right in AEW. It’s more ROH shit on AEW and the ending seems extremely predictable to me (Claudio & Yuta to go over to build Claudio and give Yuta a Pure Title match). No drama.

* A Battle Royal for a match with MJF that isn’t for the title. What a mess.

* Samoa Joe vs. Darby Allin. Joe is going to kill Allin in an attempt to make people care about him as a double champ in AEW.

* The Acclaimed defend their Tag Titles against FTR who get to have the their first straight tag team match since May now that people don’t care about them.

Fucking tremendous.

it's so crazy, remember all the buzz pillman Jr had after the darkside of the ring episode, went nowhere. TK gotta cut back on the blow.

And the fans are blaming Pillman himself. Look, the kid is green, but you can do something with that. Bron Breakker is green. You book him with and against veterans and get him to do as many reputable indies as he can. Keep his matches short and don’t get him to do anything too complicated. He’s got enough of a natural pep to him that he should have been carried through.

But they didn’t even try. When he shows up in NXT, they’ll probably do more with him in 2 months than he’ll accomplish in his entire AEW run. It’s just not the promotion to be in if you want to develop and grow.

But so many of those matches on Dynamite this week read like a Rampage card. You’ve got a very clear result and predictable low-hanging fruit as far as story development goes. That’s if it all makes sense.

Predictability isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the idea is not to wring all excitement out of every match-up.

not to mention there's something about Griff that I just don't like. He needs to get away from him.

I’m not a fan, but I guess some people see something there. I agree with separating the two. Griff needs to work out who he is on his own too. BPJ can be his own thing. Or pair him with a veteran and let that have legs. Samoa Joe & BPJ would have been a better team than Joe & Wardlow and we can get away from this Joe with mid-card belts thing. Or Pillman with Miro. I’d love to see them against FTR.

Then again I had better ratings for pooping than SD did too, but I imagine that's only because they were on FS1.
