Think of it as a personal thing then.
|
I like the animated CG endings though. Anybody else seen Zangief/Rufus ending? Thought that one was pretty amusing.
I've seen most of the SF casts and a few Tekken endings but I've still most of Tekken to do. |
After the one play through I never touched arcade again. I'll YouTube the other endings.
|
I like seeing the intros, the text between fights and endings. Plus I get to use each character at least a little and see if anyone stands out.
|
Rented from Rebox. Pretty cool.
|
Just saw a Jin tutorial. I'm gonna be a jerk with his orbs and power stance from now on.
Cammy can EX dive kick out of hooligan flip. Been wanting that for a very long time. If my pressure theories are correct (with the recently discovered jump cancel HK), she'll surpass my SSF4 run with her in a little while. I'm talking no reason to tag shit here. Give me time. Gotta adjust my gems on Ken. Overall you're gonna see more speed gems from me. |
Me and Drak just had a session. I'm getting better at capitalizing launch tags, and Asuka got much better. She's not free bait anymore and pulls more weight on the team.
Drak got some Pandora uasage, using it as an elaborate anti-air/counter. Interesting. |
You can also do EX wall bounce move > pandora > super
Timing is tight, but it could win you the match. |
Capcom announces they are getting help from Microsoft to start banning users who have "hacked" the game in order to play with the extra characters online.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...n-dlc-hackers/ They are also working on a patch to fix the infinite combo glitches with 4 new ones recently appearing on Youtube videos. http://www.allgamenews.info/story/62...-tekken-video/ Finally, based on past history and current prices revealed so far, it will cost roughly $100 to unlock all the non-free packs currently found locked on the disc. http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/17/ga...es-are-a-scam/ |
That article doesn't take into account the near 50% discount for getting costume packs. It's much less than 100$.
I spent way more than that on Rock Band. Heh. |
How about a patch to fix that goddamned annoying audio glitch online.
|
Exactly
|
They said they were working on it for the first update. And the jump thing was brought to their attention.
|
I thought they weren't in a rush to fix the audio because they thought it was a good trade off for smooth connections.
I feel ranked is basically a case of which player can remember the longest, most damaging combo. So it's less of a fight and more a speed memory test. |
Sadly that's 98% of all fighters. It's also why SoulCalibur is my favorite series. That combo shit only takes you so far there.
|
Usually, it's not that big a deal because there is usually a lot of room to play other ways. In SFxT, it's either a string of 20 hit combos or it's a simple combo repeated over and over. My style seems inferior and out of place in this game. Not that I'm going to change.
You know what would be cool and useful? Cancelling your opponents tags. Say, at the expense of 1/3 of your EX meter, or maybe 2/3, you press tag and forward at the same time as your opponent tags out and you grab them by the collar and stop them tagging out. You'd have to be close, of course. |
That might be a bit game breaking, considering that you build meter mad quick.
Game has enough mechanics as it is, really. |
In the absence of that snap back thing from MvC, it would be good to have something like that. Maybe.
How many times have you been one light punch away from winning, only for the guy to tag out to his partner with 100% health? We've all been there. |
Yeah, but it's not as if that's cheap or anything.
|
I know it's not cheap. I just thought it would have been a handy little thing to have.
|
I think we've all had that moment where we are the ones on the verge of defeat, with a 100% health character waiting in the wings. I'd be much more frustrated at getting beat by that, as opposed to missing out a chance to finish off an opponent. I'd rather beat BOTH his characters, but hey, that's just me.
Think I've narrowed the main team to Juri and Heihachi. I'll keep working on King, but I doubt he'll replace Juri. She's more beastly here, than she was in SSF4. Been putting heihachi on point, but I think I am going to switch it, and make Juri the first. She's more versatile, and I can more safely gauge an opponent's play style with her. She also builds meter a lot faster than hachi. Also, Juri + Speed gems = Feng Shui Engine |
Got to D+ and suddenly getting a Time Out every other round.
Rumoured to have been found on the disc, hinting at DLC stages: http://shoryuken.com/wp-content/uplo...stages-dlc.jpg |
Those could just be unused stage art.
Fucking ranked matchmaking is garbage. Got up to 800+ BP, and then it continuously put me against much higher rated people till I was back down to 300 something. I just want to get to 1000. |
Yeah, maybe unused. If all the other DLC is any indication, DLC stages would be on the disc.
|
Those are backgrounds for the mission menus.
|
Fuck, I am balls at this game. Everyone I am destroying 87 - 8 in our ssf4 league is kicking my ass at this game all over the place. I'm barely above a 50/50 win/loss record.
|
It's tough if you are an active sf4 player, as you have to teach yourself not to fall into habits from that game.
Easier for me since I play Juri, and she's one of the only ones that play the same. |
|
Is that not a glowing purple there?
I'd be legit upset if purple was not in one of those color packs. |
Looks like glowing pink to me.
|
Fucking pastels colour pack, awesome.
No idea why Capcom is dicking around like that. It's all on disc, it's all free, just fucking release all the colours. Better yet, why no include them in the original game, SINCE IT'S ALREADY THERE. |
Quote:
To be fair, the red and blue on xiaoyu looks darker and more vibrant than the little selection square. It's probably not all free. Just the first pack. That's why it's locked. No other reason. |
Ugh.
|
What is that "Ugh" in reference to, good sir?
|
Red is there so, I'm pleased. The glowing colour looks like a glowing violet colour, to me. Parts 1 & 2 in the colour screen are other shades of purple so maybe there is a light, dark and glowing version of each colour?
The screen shows light green, standard green and glowing green. |
Ugh in regard to me waiting for one damn color.
|
So, what is everyones opinion on Pandora? I was pretty interested in it but it is pretty useless.
As predicted, everyone just runs away from you when you activate it, it doesn't have a long enough time frame or a big enough boost to make it worth going for. Capcom were screwed regardless of what they did with it. As they've done it this way, it's useless and it seems unpopular. Though, if they had made it an insane boost for speed and strength that lasts 1 whole minute, people would complain about that too. I'd rather it was an insane boost. We should move incredibely fast and should have such a big strength boost that an H.punch is the equivilent of an EX special move. That would justify keeping it in the time frame it has now. If they didn't change the boost from what it gives now, they should extend the time quite a lot. |
Nah, there are ways to combo into it. Just requires tight timing.
|
Only reason I've really used Pandora is if I'm winning a tight match and the clock is low. The clock ticks down while all the animation is going on.

So, Ono is fine but wont be going into work for a while. He seems to have exausted himself to the point of collapse so, I think he deserves a good few weeks off.
Just after the news of his collapse broke and before we knew it was exaustion, I was reading people saying that he deserved it for some pathetic reason like screwing up SFxT or including on-disc DLC etc. The sad thing is, I don't think they were trying to be funny. |
Yeah, I've read some of the petty comments as well.
Really disgusting. |
Fortunately most of the comments were positive, even from people who didn't like his work.
Fuck the others, though. Never cease to amaze me. |
I managed to get a 10 or 11 match win streak in Ranked. I'm now C class and Hugo is about as effective as Zangief for me.
I think I'm getting quite good at reading people, finally. SSFIV, I relied on brute strength most of the time but I'm managing to notice patterns in this game while using the usual brute strength approach. Landed Hugos flying backbreaker a lot this way. I also actually managed to use Pandora in Ranked and win. I pulled it out both rounds of the same match and got the win each time. I think I know how I'll be using it now. As for the streak, I ended up having it killed by someone that basically did one big long combo in each round. I don't feel cheated but it's a pity there isn't some way to break out of a combo that exceeds X amount of strikes. Even if it used a lot, or all, of your meter. Are there any plans for a big TPWW lobby? I've only really fought Fignuts online and Kalyx once or twice. Speaking of lobbies, I like playing as my main team but I start to feel a bit awkward if I keep choosing them in lobbies. Is that just me? |
Lobbies are the place to experiment with characters.
We have had good lobbies. We should do something this week. |
I try to experiment in lobbies. That's when I realised I didn't care about 90% of the Tekken cast enough to even try them.
|
Yeah when we do lobbies we typically pick different characters. Myself and Blitz, more than others really.
Finally surpassed 1000 BP and ranked up to C. Afraid to go back now. |
Also, finding some nasty stuff with Hworang and Law. Specifically with tag cancel combos between the two of them. They mesh really well together.
|
Hworang is a fucking monster. His 'canon spike' is better than Cammy's.
|
Cammy's seems a lot safer.
|
Also, let's fight.
|
Quote:
Maining Cammy and Law right now. Good synergy there. |
Soon we'll fight.
|
I honestly just haven't had time. I will join you all for fights soon, I promise.
|
ugh.
Khuntry is zonerrific. Was able to pull out a win with Julia & King, but got worked otherwise. Too many games against people who allow me to jump in. |
|

Why don't they just admit that they've been paid to make the PS3/Vita versions the superior? |
Ibuki's swap costume is up on the Xbox Marketplace for 80 MSP. I'm guessing they accidently put it up a little too early.
I'm not going to buy it because I'd rather buy a complete pack and I think you might get banned if you used the alt online, with Capcom asking people to report players using "hacked" content. people might wrongfully think you hacked the alt, rather than bought it. |
I think if you purchased it, through their own fault, you would not get banned. Records would back you up.
|
Yeah, I downloaded it. Disappointed it doesn't have a full set of colors. I thought that's why they are more expensive than the SF4 costumes.
|
Maybe. I'd still rather wait for a full pack to show up, or maybe just the outfits for the guys I use a lot and get the pack some other time, when I've more money to spare.
Really really hating the huge stringing combos that almost completely empty my health. They seriously should have put in some kind of "combo breaker" system. After 10 hits, you do a simple input, spend 2 blocks of EX and blast the opponent back a few feet. I don't care if it does 0% damage, just stop the combo. I've nothing against normal combos. It's just the 20 hit combos that do 75% damage I hate. |
Isn't that a bit normal with the Tekken style?
Capcom favored a little too much of the Tekken style with this game in order to keep some sort of balance due to the different styles. |
Tekken is very juggle happy, yes.
|
Quote:
It was obvious Capcom were trying to appeal to Tekken fans since the start when pretty much every CG trailer showed a SF character getting smacked around by a Tekken character, even in their own reveal trailer (Poison & Hugo). |
I doubt the rabbit hole goes that deep.
Tekken inherently has a deeper and more complex move-set philosophy than SF. There's no way you could adapt Tekken characters into 2D without them having some seriously aggressively mixup shenanigans. And the scary part is that's just a taste of what any of them can actually do in their home game. This isn't a case of Capcom catering to the Tekken base, because in the end this is still a modified Street Fighter game. Controlling space and timing your attacks using different powered versions of special moves is still the name of the game. If the SF cast seems limited, they always were - we're just seeing a direct comparison in this crossover title. SF always had a basic move-set philosophy. Only in SFIII did they really let loose, and just look at Dudley/Makoto/Ibuki in SSF4 compared to the rest of the cast (as well as Viper and the other new cast members). It's one of the reasons I said this game is a wake up call on a few levels. It shows how bare bones SF was and how interesting it can be if Capcom just experimented a bit. |
Quote:
In the first CG trailer, Ryu & Ken are getting beaten up the entire time by Kazuya & Nina. In the second CG trailer, Hagger is KO'd in the first few seconds and then Poison & Hugo get thrown around the rest of the time. In the entire 2:22 of the trailer, SF gets in 2 hits. The rest of the time is them getting beat up. In the Rufus trailer, Rufus get's in one or two strikes but, ultimately, ends up looking like an idiot. The one trailer where SF is looking impressive is the Bison/Jin trailer but it ends with Devil Jin just grinning/snarling and telling Bison he'll teach him what fear really is. That doesn't look like "SF wins" to me. Quote:
Someone does a single move It does or doesn't hit The fight moves on. The Tekken cast seem to work in another way. They land one punch, not even a special punch, a normal punch and they can now bounce you around for 15 seconds and take off a large amount of health with no way for you to escape until they stop. Even as Zangief/Hugo, I lose a lot of health in these huge combos. Maybe the Tekken cast should be a little weaker if they can do such long combos? I mean, when the tank characters are being drained fom 100% to a little above 25% in a single combo, you know something's not right. |
The only advantage of the game having long, boring combos is that you can go make a sandwich of you're caught in one.

I don't find Cammy to be at a disadvantage, for instance. A cannon spike is a canon spike. Keeping the Tekken cast out depends on blocking, and I can understand how native SF players may find the toe-to-toe mixup games overly aggressive. I was playing Fignuts and had trouble with his Heihachi, and I started to stand my ground by simply avoiding his neutral jump kick which started his ground bounce combos. Once I stopped feeding him he adjusted, and so the metagame unfolds. The combos are a bitch, but you can identify and stop them. People who dig the Tekken cast complain about lack of anti-air and having to get in to do anything worth while. Things start to look clear when you remember they're in SF's world. |
Pretty much what Kalyx said. If you don't understand both franchises, you won't get this game at all. It's fucking brilliant, actually.
|
Ok so I am now comfortable using 5 different Tekken characters. Not "confident" just "comfortable". I'm also used to doing what I do with my normal SF characters. Haven't tried any of the "new" ones yet.
Someone come play with me now. Since I can use someone else other than Akuma, I shouldn't be a boring matchup in lobbies. Also, I've fixed my connection (by doing absolutely nothing) |
Figured out a good use for Pandora in Ranked.
I was fighting a B rank Ken/Sagat both coloured totally black. Tossed the guy around like a dodgeball in the first round and the guy tried a comeback in round 2. He managed to get Zangief low but both his guys were pretty low as well, so he backs off and get projectile happy. Tigershots everywhere. The timer gets down to 3 seconds, Zangief has been taken down to a sliver of health and a Tiger Shot is an inch from connecting, meaning I'm about to lose the round right now. I trigger Pandora just before the Tiger Shot connects, which the match timer still runs during, and "Time Over" I win because Hugo was still at 100%. I wasn't aware of the timer at the time, I was just trying to avoid a KO and Pandora triggers easier than tagging. So, if you need to waste 3 or 4 seconds and you know you'll win by Time Out, trigger Pandora. The guy gave me neg rep btw. Though he's "Underground" and coloured all his guys black so I'm assuming he's twelve and just can't take a loss. I'm missing my Siberian Blizzard. A few times I've been thinking "I could really hit the SB right here.". I went online to take up RoXers invite to lobby but he wasn't there. Must have missed him. |
The lesson here is listen to Hasney

I ignored the RoXer invite because there was no way I was politely responding using a steering wheel.

Hasney is one step ahead.

All the Swap and Alt outfits, in alphabetical order:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SU461gd5Svw?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/c-bSmpnUGKQ?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Definitely going to be sporting "Hugo the Horrible". I'm not sure which Zangief look I'd go for. I think the bear skin look might just be better than the masked look. |
Sorry I ran out after one match today. That was my first match against a human, and my first experience with the online sound issue, so I was completely busted. Lag wasn't helping either.
|
I play Jin and Asuka and they're my weakest characters far behind Ken and Cammy. I can even pull Vega and Chun Li out of retirement and do damage. I do not think this is because I had more experience with them. The Tekken characters have to earn their optimum position in this game (roughly sweep range from what I observe).
- They all have gimped anti-airs, and must try way harder to protect themselves from a jump in. - Their air attack package is shit, most have one go-to air attack whereas the Street Fighters historically have several each. - Due to move properties and even how the input works, Tekken cast special moves are not spam friendly. This is a point I mentioned before, and it's important because spamming is very SF. - Ryu and Ken's hurricane kicks do not work the same, especially in EX mode. And though they do hit on both sides, I don't think you should compare them to spinning lariat simply because they both spin. The rest of your rant is fine, pretty much your opinion (some I agree with). Hope you enjoy the game. |
DLC is out.
The colour packs, 3 or 4 of them, are free. Good news for Kalyx is that purple is in the packs. Three shades of it, light, normal and glowing. No dark colours though. No glowing red sucks and the only red added is so pale it looks less red than Hugos default colour. |
Made an Incredible Hulk look for Zangief and Hugo btw.
|
My life is complete. Now I need Sakura, Christie, and Lei.
|
Made a glowing Dr Manhatten look for Dhalsim and Sagat and a "plastic green army man" look for Rolento. I'm going to give Dhalsim a "Necro" colour scheme soon and I'll see how close I can get Heihachi to a Dr Wily colour scheme.
Thinking of giving Marduk the Hulk treatment but might be better to wait until I get his swap costume. The hair and ripped clothing from his Hugo look might look better. I much prefer trying to colour characters as something else rather than just messing around with colours I think look good. Trying to think who else I could do and as what. |
Drakul, that one match with you against that Ken/Ryu was pretty awesome. I think I saved it.
|
I thought we worked quiet well as a time the whole time. Though I think I screwed us over in that first round. I forget who we fought but it was at the Mad Gear Hideout and you were low so I tagged myself in and, without thinking, did a launching combo that brought you in before you could regain your health.
|
I'm also sort of pleased that I did so well on my own against two teams of two humans.
|
Because of how the game works it doesn't make much different if two humans are playing. The only time is when you activate tandem attacking, which people rarely do.
|
I would rather play against 2 humans than 1 tbh. More often than not, the 2 working together are very uncoordinated.
|
You don't say.

You played Scramble Battle against two people? How'd they talk you into that?
|
I was teaming with RoXer but then he left and teamed with Fignuts. So I was on my own against them and a team of random guys.
Won a few matches before leaving for a bit. |
Not a big fan of scramble, I gotta say. It was fun a couple times, just for the novelty of it, but don't really have any desire to continue playing it.
|
Anyone wanna play?
|
Not in Miami right now.
|
I quite like scramble. Though it is a little rough, especially the whole focus thing.
I'd like it if we had a few more options about game modes. I've already said most of it before but a scramble battle that was "every man for himself" might be fun. 1v1 would be good. Elimination tag. Stable matches. DOA2 had them. You'd pick 8 characters each and have 1v1 fights until someone had their entire stable wiped out, one after another. I'm sure they could do either that or some tag variation. Pick 8 guys, they tag team in order. So if I pick Zangief, Sagat, Hugo & Poison in that order, I'd play as Zangief & Sagat. If Sagat got KO'd, I'd play with Zangief & Hugo. If Zangief got KO'd, I'd play with Hugo & Poison. Then I'd be left with just one of them and eventually 0 so I'd lose. |
I'm enjoying the colour edit mode. I'm hoping more colours aren't far away and that they'll be free.
So far I've made the following characters look like someone else. Some are better than others and the lack of really bright, vivid colours makes some of these pretty unimpressive, right now. Zangief - Hulk Hugo - Hulk Marduk - Hulk Cammy - She-Hulk Poison - She-Hulk (considering a "Roll Casket" from MML colour scheme) Heihachi - Dr Wily & Ken Ryu - Ken & Sean from SF3. Dhalsim - Necro from SF3 & Dr Manhatten Sagat - Dr Manhatten Bob - Homer Simpson & Peter Griffin Xiaoyu - Marge Simpson Julie - Lois Griffin Rolento - Green Plastic Army Man I'm interested in doing more but I think I'm almost out of ideas with the current mix of colours, outfits I've bought and characters available. Anyone else doing something like this? Any suggestions? |
I had the idea for hulk with zangief too. Gonna do a Doc Samson Ken to partner up with him.
|
Playing in a team is fucking hard.
Me and Roxer just did some ranked matches. Started out well enough, with two consecutive victories. Then it matched us up with some yahoo who had 7,000+ BP, and it all went downhill from there. Worst part is, I'm sure myself or Roxer could have beat some of the teams we faced, if we were playing alone. We definitely raw tagged too much, and barely boost comboed or tag canceled at all. That and used cross assault which is the most useless fucking mechanic in the game. |
Yeah, Cross Assault and Pandora are both useless 99.9% of the time. That is a lot to do with the pathetically short time limit they both have.
