Poor Tanner, eats a knee from Okami

road doggy dogg 03-01-2008 11:52 PM

Next UFC event, I predict crossrine in the 4th round.

HeartBreakMan2k 03-02-2008 12:57 AM

Spoiler in black: Anderson Silva will never lose... ever. Not after tonight.

Blitz 03-02-2008 02:41 AM

Silva was tremendous that 2nd round. Like he just got fed up after Henderson took the first and just decided to end him.

Also I  Yushin Okami.

Everyone is going to laugh when I say this, but Matt Lindland is the last person who may have a shot without them doing a catch weight match with GSP. Henderson showed me that someone can take Anderson down and lay on him, Lindland is Dan's wrestling coach and I don't think he'd even think about standing and banging with Silva.

It would be a boring ass fight but I think Lindland could win with charge in, take down and just lay on top for 5 minutes; repeat. It would be a long shot, but it's the last possibility I can see and even then I think Anderson destroys him.

RP 03-02-2008 05:25 PM

I've long said Matt Lindland is one of the top 10 fighters in the world. But honestly, seeing Silva flip the switch in that second round last night was unreal. It was like Hendo was on his level and then Silva jumped up 2 more levels.

BTW Chris Leben is a sick sick man. And he's becoming one of my favorite fighters. Because thats just it. He's a fucking fighter. Dude is sick. I didnt think he'd win last night.

RP 03-02-2008 05:39 PM

Yushin Okami is such an interesting fighter. I thought he really fought nicely against Franklin, but he lost a decision and it kinda derailed him a bit. Now he's beaten McDonald and Tanner . I think he'll probably be Silva's next fight. And Okami wont win, but he'll make it pretty interesting. He's a definate dark horse. I kinda love him too.

Wouldn't laugh but Silva would fucking KILL Lindland right now.

So I guess Okami is next for Silva?

And seriously, Okami's name is Thunder?! Jushin Thunder?!?! BLASPHEMY

That's where the name came from. They wanted him to have a nickname and he couldn't think of one and then someone came out with that idea and he liked it because he is a mark for Liger.

O'Brian is a better wrestler than you think. Obviously UFC thought Arlovski would need to up his game to have an exciting fight or he'd be out wrestled and be in another bore fest. Since he lost the title, he looks like he is scared to take a punch.

Kimbo vs. anyone with a modicum of skill = Kimbo getting annihilated.

He needs to grow all his facial and body hair back.

Reavant 03-04-2008 02:09 PM

I agree on that too

Rob 03-04-2008 06:49 PM

Shogun is out of the London show against Liddell.

HeartBreakMan2k 03-05-2008 08:54 AM

Yeah, hurt himself training. No idea who they'll put Chuck against now?

Rob 03-05-2008 11:43 AM

Who the fuck is there really? Silva and Jardine are fighting each other. Ditto for Machida and Ortiz and Griffin and Rampage. Bonnar isn't good enough. Sokoudjou ain't gonna happen and I think he has a fight lined up. Houston Alexander would get killed. Wilson Gouveia is about the one guy or Rashad Evans.

Reavant 03-05-2008 12:14 PM

rashad is fighting tiago silva the month before

Reavant 03-05-2008 12:26 PM

The only possible match would be henderson. That or a 185 moving up or Chuck fighting a heavyweight.

Rob 03-05-2008 12:28 PM

Hmmm Henderson. That's not bad.

Innovator 03-05-2008 01:19 PM

Hendo wouldn't be bad...what about Silva making a claim to be the best pound for pound fighter and go up against Chuck?

Innovator 03-05-2008 01:21 PM

Brandon Vera fights around 223, he had 18 lbs to lose...

Reavant 03-05-2008 03:12 PM

Vera wont fight below hwt

McLegend 03-05-2008 04:07 PM

Wasn't it his goal though to hold both titles at the same time?

RP 03-05-2008 04:55 PM

Houston Alexander makes the most sense

RP 03-05-2008 05:05 PM

I've heard Anderson Silva wants the Liddell fight. I've also seen Vitor Belforts name tossed around.

Rob 03-05-2008 05:57 PM

Silva isn't going to 205lbs.

Reavant 03-05-2008 06:56 PM

Houston Alexander makes probably the least sense.... yea he beat jaardine, but he got crushed against thiago so why would they hjave him headline an event? Also why would Silva go up to 205 to fight someone who isnt the champ? Even if he wants that fight his management and probably Dana wont let him take it. I would put money on UFC pressuring Hendo into this fight.

Innovator 03-05-2008 06:58 PM

I'm trying to think of big middleweights who wouldn't be too hurt going to 205...any ideas?

Innovator 03-06-2008 01:26 AM

Well speaking of middleweights at 205...Rashad is stepping in to fight Chuck Liddell.

Yup, at UFC 85, Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans

SammyG 03-06-2008 02:18 AM

Kurt Angle

Stickman 03-06-2008 12:47 PM

I pick Liddell via Murder.

Reavant 03-06-2008 02:32 PM

well i would have lost some money.... man chuck loves fighting the TUF2 cast

Rob 03-06-2008 03:24 PM

Did I not mention earlier it could only be him or Wilson Gouveia? Bottom line is who the fuck else was there that wasn't in a big match? Without signing Richardo Arona, it had to be one of those two.

Rob 03-06-2008 09:15 PM

Rumour has it that Fedor is done with M-1 and will be in talks with UFC as soon as next week.

I hope they sign him and then blackball Randy Couture.

McLegend 03-06-2008 09:32 PM

I would think they would let Randy back if they signed Fedor.

And on the flip side I would think Randy would want to come back if they signed Fedor.

Rob 03-06-2008 09:41 PM

They want Randy back regardless. They should still blackball him though.

Reavant 03-06-2008 09:53 PM

Yea they should but I think they will be more worried about PPV buys then fucking randy over

Destor 03-06-2008 10:00 PM

Gee, retarded grudge or good buisness descision...dunno...

Rob 03-07-2008 06:07 AM

Well Randy did say that hed only return if he could fight Fedor so he wouldnt exactly be going back on his words.

Rob 03-07-2008 05:02 PM

The bickering about money and the lies he told about not being paid money that he was is what I'm on about. He can't have 2 fights left on his deal and refuse a fight anyway.

Shit trust me. If UFC can pull Fedor in once M-1 goes to the shitter ( havent even had there first show yet ), then all bad things with Randy will be forgotten. That fight will happen and tons of money will be made. I wouldnt even be shocked if this whole damn thing has been a work just to build this fight up even more.

Kurt Angle Admittedly not Ready for MMA

John Morgan - TAGG Radio, for MMAjunkie.com Mar 14, 5:33 pm EDT

Although professional wrestling superstar Kurt Angle will compete against UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture in a submission grappling match later this year, don’t expect Angle to immediately follow in fellow professional wrestler Brock Lesnar’s footsteps—at least not yet.

Angle discussed his upcoming grappling match, as well as a possible foray into MMA with a potential seven-figure deal with the UFC, while a guest on Thursday’s edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), a content partner site of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

“I’ve always wanted to do (MMA), from after the Olympics, and I just never got the shot,” Angle said. “I’ve been keeping myself in really, really good shape, but not in the fighting shape you have to be in to go into MMA.”

Instead, Angle will first try his hand at submission wrestling, which is essentially MMA without striking. The match will be Angle’s first in Rico Chiapparelli’s Professional Submission League, while Couture has competed in the organization before, battling Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza to a draw. The date of the event has not yet been determined, but Angle believes it will take place in late summer or early fall.

“A lot of people are pretty much counting me out, which I don’t blame them,” Angle admitted. “But you can’t count out an Olympic gold medalist.”

After the match, Angle will continue to pursue a transition into MMA, something the 39-year-old has been trying to do for several years. Angle has had contract negotiations with several organizations, including the UFC, though none of those discussions led to a deal.

“(UFC President) Dana White gave me more than any other fighter could ever dream of,” Angle said. “He wanted me to sign for a long period of time where I didn’t have to fight that much. But, he wanted the complete rights to me. I guess he wanted Kurt Angle the name and the person to be affiliated with the UFC for the next whatever years. But the figure was staggering. I could tell you that all the deals that were done were all in the seven-figure mark for the fight.”

Angle’s training for a possible MMA debut has been hampered by the difficulties of constant travel while working as a professional wrestler. He also has a history of neck and shoulder issues that have required numerous surgeries. He hopes to land with an organization that will allow him ample time to prepare properly for a fight.

“Last year I trained about four straight months, and I’ll tell you what, the training is as grueling, if not more grueling, than the training I did for the 1996 Olympics,” Angle said. “Within four months I was so broken down, and I was trying to wrestle full time on the road as well, and I couldn’t do it.”

So while Angle is excited about the opportunity to test his abilities in submission grappling against one of the UFC’s most decorated fighters, an MMA debut is still far from a sure thing.

“I don’t want (you) to misunderstand me,” he said. “When I say I am in shape, I am in no shape at all right now to go into an octagon or on a platform and have a fight with Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell or ‘Rampage’ Jackson or Brock Lesnar or whoever it is. Right now I cannot.”

Angle also discussed at length his previous battles with addiction to painkillers, his thoughts on Lesnar’s recent UFC debut, and his less-than-amicable departure from the WWE. To hear the full interview, download Thursday’s edition of TAGG Radio, available for free in the TAGG Radio archives.

EliteXC Offers Fedor Emelianenko Four-Fight, Seven-Figure Deal

by Dann Stupp -

ProElite, Inc., the parent company of Elite Xtreme Combat, has offered former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko a four-fight contract that could put the famed Russian on the first two EliteXC-CBS shows.

The news was first reported by Chad Edward , though MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned some additional details about the deal.

Emelianenko's managemenet and EliteXC officials could not be reached for comment.

According to a source close to the negotiations, the deal would call for a base pay somewhere between $300,000 and $500,000 per fight. Additionally, after the two fights (which would air on CBS or Showtime), Emelianenko's next two fights would air on pay-per-view. As part of the deal, he would receive a portion of the PPV revenue, and the "per-buy bonus" would scale as the total number of buys increases.

The length of the contract would run 18 months.

As Nokaut.com reported, EliteXC officials would also have to introduce the fighter as "M-1 Global's Fedor Emelianenko." Sherdog.com recently reported that Emelianenko never actually signed with the recently restructured M-1 Global organization and that the return of a $1.5 million signing bonus would essentially make him a free agent. M-1 Global executives deny the report.

MMAjunkie.com has also learned that the EliteXC offer would call for Fedor's brother, Aleksander Emelianenko, to compete on the same fight cards if terms for a fight contract can be reached. Other Russian Red Devil Fight Team members could also earn consideration for future events.

The first EliteXC-CBS show is scheduled to take place May 31 in Newark, N.J., and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson is tentatively scheduled as the night's headliner. However, Ferguson and Emelianenko are unlikely to fight each other if Emelianenko signs with the organization.

EliteXC is just one of many fight organizations reportedly interested in signing Emelianenko (27-1), who last competed in December at the Yarennoka! New Year's Eve 2007 show. There, he defeated 7-foot-2 Hong Man Choi with a first-round armbar.

Cuban: HDNet to Carry Angle-Couture Match
by MMAjunkie

Mark Cuban, owner of HDNet and the growing HDNet Fights brand, says the all-high-definition cable station will broadcast a Randy Couture vs. Kurt Angle submission grappling match if the bout comes to fruition.

Cuban confirmed the broadcast plans in a recent interview with fightticker.com, a new site operated by our friend Pramit Mohapatra.

Angle recently talked about the potential match during a segment on TAGG Radio, a recap of which can be found here on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

According to the Olympic gold medalist and current professional-wrestling performer, the match will be Angle's first in Rico Chiapparelli's Professional Submission League. Couture, the UFC's estranged heavyweight champion, has previously competed in the organization, battling Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza to a draw.

The date of the Angle-Couture fight has not yet been determined, but Angle believes it will take place in late summer or early fall.

"They are trying to make it happen and it will be on HDNet," Cuban said.

HDNet Fights, which has hosted two of its own shows to date, has also presented live and tape-delayed fights for a number of other organizations, including Strikeforce, the International Fight League, Hardcore Fighting Championships, Matt Lindland's SportFight and others. They've also hosted specialty programming, such as an Xtreme Couture smoker with Randy's wife, Kim Couture.

As Cuban told fightticker.com, that type of co-promotion is simply a way to grow the sport.

"Having all that entrepreneurial energy is great for MMA," Cuban said.
I didn't think this fight would ever really happen..

Rob 03-26-2008 02:06 PM

Angle said he signed for it last week.

Don't believe it still.

Tim Sylvia was fired by the UFC today with 1 fight left on his deal. This guy has to be more stupid than Jeff Hardy. Top heavyweight in the biggest company in the world and he leaves because he thinks he isn't making enough.

Kris P Lettus 03-28-2008 05:25 PM

Where did you hear this??

I heard he had some "huge announcement" to make yesterday and it turned out to be that he was going hunting..

Link??

Sylvia may be set to announce he's leaving UFC

The Fight Network

Updated: March 27, 2008, 1:18 PM EST Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia could announce his decision to leave the Las Vegas-based promotion as early as Friday, according to a source close to the situation.Sylvia, who has one fight remaining on his current contract with the UFC, submitted to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a bout for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 81 in February.
Sylvia's departure could set the stage for a lucrative match with former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko later this year. Still widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Emelianenko's services are being sought by a number of potential suitors, including EliteXC.
Sylvia (24-4) has won seven of his last nine fights — the lone defeats coming to Nogueira and Randy Couture, two of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Based out of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp in Bettendorf, Iowa, the gangly, 6-foot-8 Sylvia underwent back surgery following his unanimous decision loss to Couture at UFC 68 in March 2007. He made a successful return to the Octagon in October, as he handed Brandon Vera his first professional defeat at UFC 77.
The 32-year-old Sylvia owns victories against former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski (twice) and Ricco Rodriguez. He has also defeated the American Top Team's Jeff Monson, Mike Whitehead (twice) and Ben Rothwell. Nineteen of his 24 career wins have come by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
That's all I could find..

He was gonna announce he was leaving on HD Net tonight. UFC however have decided to break the news earlier. I think Meltzer is reporting it now but a guy from the UFC office over here told me they were just told he was fired.

Watching Shamrock-Le gave me two realizations and an observation.

Realizations:
1. Frank Shamrock is an idiot. Don't stand and trade with Cung Le. When he got tripped in the second, Frank dared him to come down to his level. Cung shook his head. Frank is a submission specialist. Cung is a target just WAITING to be put into a submission. End of Story.

2. Based on his post-match commentary, Cung Le is a douchebag. He said that he was aiming for the wrist, as in TRYING to break his arm. Well, to his credit, it worked.

Observation:
Cung Le is definitely beatable. Several of his kicks SHOULD have been turned into leglocks. He doesn't have one shot knockout power, as evident in several of his fights. He also doesn't seem agressive enough. Strategy-wise, I'd charge him, wanting him to kick me. If I can't get the leg lock, I'd keep coming, until I'm inside. Le doesn't have an inside game, and Frank did expose that. Dirty Boxing was where Frank did the most damage, and a better thai clinch would have done Le in. In other words, Cung Le would NOT want to face Anderson Silva.

Rob 03-30-2008 03:00 PM

Fuck me that was an awesome 3rd.

Vastardikai 03-30-2008 03:36 PM

It was an awesome 3rd. I'll give Shamrock his due for standing with him, but the fact is he shouldn't have. Which is why he's an idiot with a broken arm right now.

Cung Le will bring in some revenue, as long as they do for him what they'll also have to do for Kimbo Slice: Protect him from any real threat. In other words, don't look for Cung to fight a Robbie Lawler (who I think can take him), and don't expect Kimbo to fight anyone who's not over the hill or has anything closely resembling talent.

Jura 03-30-2008 06:06 PM

I loaded up parts 1 and 2 and fell asleep now I watched them and I tried to find 3 but they are being taken down :(. I can't see the end of the fight!.

Kris P Lettus 03-31-2008 12:42 AM

dailymotion.com has it up..

Jura 03-31-2008 02:35 AM

I just saw the rest a few minutes ago. I don't follow Frank and I hear he's a submission artist so I'm thinking he can't punch but if he could I think he would have won.
