There will probably be codes on eBay at some point.

Drakul 05-27-2013 03:44 PM

Heard/read about a bunch of cool things. Hopefully I'll be able to post them but I have family staying over at mine this week so I've no idea when that will be.

I did want to say that multiple sites/magazines were shown the same demo. One of the missions (maybe a side mission?) involved driving an actress away from paparazzi by heading out to the hills/countryside. One site/mag reported the mission going as normal while another reported that, during their viewing of the same mission, a deer ran out infront of the car as they drove down a road through countryside and the character driving said "Oh, shit!!" before swerving to avoid it.
I thought it sounded cool. I'm hoping the swerving was manual, rather than automatic.

Another cool little detail was said by Leslie *something* (I forget the name. Big wig at R*). He was asked if the whole "switching to trevor as he wakes up in his underwear" thing was one of a few similar things because it wouldn't be something you'd imagine they'd spend a lot of time on.
Leslie said there were alot of those things. Examples given included switching to Michael to see him shopping with his wife.

You don't lose your guns after you run out of ammo. This means you aren't wasting your money by customising a gun just to have it vanish after it's been exhausted. I'm hoping this means you can maybe threaten people with an empty gun. Would be cool to bluff my way through a robbery.

Money has a lot of uses in the game and a lot of it makes sense. For example, you can't buy a helicoptor unless you first buy a helipad. Same goes for boats. You'd need to buy a marina.

Loads more but I'll add them in later.

Q & A

“Do you have to switch characters constantly?” – killer772

Michael, Franklin and Trevor have their own separate lives with their own sets of friends and acquaintances, and even their own preferred ways of spending their free time. When you’re not on a mission, you can freely switch in real-time to any of the three characters to drop in and out of their lives letting you see what they’re up to. And because they have their own schedules, you’ll never know what they might be doing – you might drop in on Michael in the middle of a family dispute, interrupt Franklin chatting up some ladies, or Trevor on the run from the law – or whatever else these guys do in their free time... How and when you switch between characters when you’re not on a mission is completely up to you.
In addition, each of the guys has their own missions and side jobs. There will be times on a mission when you play as one character, or as combinations of two of them, and sometimes as all three, always being able to switch between the characters mid-action. Off mission, it’s up to you. You can play as one character on his own or hang out with either of the other two or both of them, or you can switch between any of them.

"If I play as Trevor, can I zoom out, find out where Michael is, and then go and kill him while playing as Trevor? #GTAV" – @GTALAD4EVA

In the open world, the characters are meant to be living their own ongoing and unpredictable personal lives, so understandably it’s not always easy to track one of them down in the vast city of Los Santos or the many towns spread about Blaine County at any given moment, but you will be able to find them. Having found them, (or simply after calling them up and arranging to meet them), you’ll certainly be able to hang out with them, annoy them should you choose, and maybe even assault them, but you won’t be able to kill them. They all have remarkable powers of recovery and good health insurance. The game is based on playing all sides of these three characters’ interwoven stories rather than having generic, interchangeable leads, so permanently killing a major character in that way wouldn’t make sense. If a player is determined enough though, they may well find a way to badly injure one of the characters and switching to that character would just put you in the hospital to continue where you left off.

“Hello, I noticed that the Special Edition of GTA V includes a large "blueprint" of the map. I was wondering if the Standard Edition of GTA V will include the traditional folded paper map that, as far as I can recall, has always been included with GTA games.” – received via Mouthoff
"Will a GTA V poster be included when the game is purchased?” – @ny718kid

As in all previous Grand Theft Auto games, we’ve made a point of including a map of the world to aid players in navigating the city. In all versions of GTAV, the game disc will accompany a map with all the details players will need to navigate the world. One big change though with this game is that with a world of this size, we created a double-sided map based poster to make sure players have all the information they might need to discover and explore the world. The blueprint map in the other editions does contain plenty of additional information and secrets on it.

“My name is Pedro and I have a doubt. When are you going to release the pre-order links of the Special Edition and Collector's Edition of Grand Theft Auto V on Brazil?” – received via Mouthoff

Hi Pedro, we’re working hard to make the Special Edition and Collector’s Edition available for pre-order in Brazil as soon as we can. We’re currently waiting on some customs issues to be resolved before retailers in Brazil can start accepting pre-orders. To all others who have questions about whether and where the Special Edition or Collector’s Edition is available in your particular country, we’ve been maintaining the www.rockstargames.com/V/preorder page to be as up to date and accurate as possible for all territories shown – if you have additional questions beyond that, feel free to hit us up at mouthoff@rockstargames.com and we’d be happy to investigate for you.

“Would you be able to tell me to what extent are weapons and vehicles customizable?” – @kieranmgklaceup

Without going into detail just yet, we can tell you that both will be very customizable – with a range of weapon upgrades as well as some very deep car customization. Stay tuned for more very soon.

“Rockstar, how many discs will the Xbox and PS3 versions of the game have? I am asking because I am just conscious of how many discs I will have to install onto my Xbox 360 HDD.” – cj67890
“Hi R*, as you said GTAV will be the biggest game that Rockstar ever created, normally it should be the biggest in size too. So how you are going to solve Xbox 360 disc limit issues? I mean will GTAV have many discs (on Xbox 360 platform)…?” – youtubos
“If we install GTAV on Xbox 360 do we have to insert other discs or not?” – Persian-boy1995

Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles. In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 systems. For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.
This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.
For PlayStation®3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.

“Will we ever see some GTA V gameplay?”– @ASTR4Lx

Yes. Soon (or in September if you don’t want to see it before you play it… it’s up to you) – the first Official Gameplay Video is on its way...

“Hey Rockstar, I'm curious whether you are planning on releasing GTA V on the PC...” – received via Mouthoff
“You've probably been asked before, but is GTA V coming for next gen consoles also?” – @tomtoon2010

The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.

“When will we get information on GTA V multiplayer?” – @camronbnl3

Expect to hear some first details soon – it’s called Grand Theft Auto Online and we’re very excited to unveil it for you sometime this summer.

“A healthy GTAIV multiplayer game is really hard to come by nowadays. By healthy I mean players play for good clean fun. Every time I join a game it's either modded or hacked. When I create a custom game, some abusive d*ck joins my game and ruins everyone's fun game. I can't just kick him out unless everyone votes. Do something about this in GTAV, Rockstar.” – received via Mouthoff

Ever since Grand Theft Auto IV was released, we’ve continued to integrate newer and stronger methods of cheat detection and prevention for each of our games. While we have yet to reveal specifically what new anti-cheating measures we have planned for GTAV, rest assured that we’re focused on creating as level a playing field and as fair, fun (and healthy as you say) an experience as possible for everyone. There will always be some people who want to cheat but we are going to do our best to stop it. We have spent a lot of time and effort making an incredible Online experience and proper support is part of that package.

“Hello Rockstar, I have a question: how much difference will there be between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game?” – received via Mouthoff

Players can expect the same great gameplay experience on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms as they have both been developed in tandem. Like all of our games, trust that we’re committed to making sure Grand Theft Auto V looks and runs as great as possible regardless of whether you pick it up for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and we are excited for fans on both platforms to experience Grand Theft Auto V this September. We expect any visual differences to be completely negligible.

“I smell a delay...” – SanViceCity
“Hope R* will release this game on September 17th. HOPE it will no be delayed AGAIN.” – creed_20103

There’s nothing to worry about, so we aren’t quite sure what you’re smelling! GTAV will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th.

Yeah, I mean I've got 38.3GB out of 60 GB on my hard drive, but still, why the fuck does it have to install and take 8 GB just for me to play? :(

<font color=goldenrod>I'm still on the original hard drive that came with my 360. :o I sold back a lot of old games over the years and I realize that some games I'm just not likely to play again after the new versions are out (sports games, COD, etc.) so I don't hesitate to delete things.</font>

I have a 120GB HDD I've never used. I keep meaning to buy a transfer cable to move my 60GB of stuff to it but I never get around to it and I'm worried I'll press a button and lose everything.

Going to have to get that sorted before September. Really don't want to pay £15 for a cable I'm going to use once.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not a HUGE deal, but it is kind of a nuisance to have to pop in an install disc, wait for the game to install to the hard drive, switch to disc 2 and then be able to play. Just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through.

lol No it isn't. Some of these big games we wait years for, less than half an hour is nothing. I install games that aren't required just to shave off loading times - that's a bitch after a few fights in a fighting game (offline).

I do like the idea of playing a section of the game during installation, should be nice next gen.

Yeah, and then when it's done installing I can take such great comfort and solace in knowing that just the files for a fucking GAME to run, never mind saves, only took up 8GB of my hard drive space.

Oh, well. I guess that’s the price I’ll have to pay to enjoy what will hopefully be yet another top-notch GTA experience.

Tommy Gunn 07-05-2013 05:49 PM

8gb of space shouldn't be a big deal in 2013, unless you're on a 60gb console from 2008, in which case, if you can afford GTA V on release day, you can probably afford a bigger hard drive as well. Treat yourself.

Kalyx triaD 07-05-2013 05:56 PM

Tommy is correct. Less than 100gigs is fucking yourself over. Installs, DLC, digital titles, etc.

Level up.

El Fangel 07-06-2013 11:21 PM

Why would you need more than 8gb? Not like you'll be playing much else after Sept 17th.

Got a 20gb hard drive, fuck y'all.

ClockShot 07-07-2013 09:21 AM

Caved and bought this for my PS3 this morning. GTA 4 scared me from getting this, but I found I needed another game to hold me over after I finish Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Not really keen on the quick switching between 3 guys, but maybe it'll work out in the long run.

I'm thinking it wont really be gameplay like what was done before Saints Row 3 released where the developer actually plays the game saying "And if we cross the street and press X, we can open this and do this...there we go."
I think it'll be like the RDR videos where it's a narrator telling us stuff while we get brief clips to illustrate what he's talking about.

Poorly worded info:
  • Overhaul of gun play to open up new styles of shooting while playing
  • In addition to left and right aiming and triggering, there is run and shoot
  • When engaged in combat, character's default speed switches to combat job for improved mobility
  • Each character's personality is reflected in their movements and use of weapons: Trevor's aggressiveness, Franklin's swagger and Michael's efficiency
  • Gun play still GTA-based at core, but have used other studios to bring aspects of RDR and MP3 over
  • Overhaul of aiming system to make game more immersive, split into 3 modes: assisted, traditional and free aim
  • Car is used as cover by getting out staying low to avoid exposure
  • Wide range of weapon modifications available in Ammunation such as clips, grips, tints and other attachments
  • Some missions request you to customise vehicles in a certain way, the rest is up for experimentation
  • Vehicle customisation taken a lot further than in GTA SA
  • Pay & Spray not in game - replaced by Los Santos Customs that are located throughout the map
  • More than 1000 vehicle modifications available, both cosmetic and performance
You can take a photo of your finished vehicle and upload it to Social Club

Maybe more soon.

Something gives me the impression GTA Online will be some kind of MMO thing with actual missions and a story.

Also, did no one notice that the MP footage was filmed from inside a building?

In the gameplay video, I was impressed when it zoomed out to the other guys. What made it cool was the music. it was a sort of "boom" beat for each level of zooming out/in. When I first saw it, I thought that that music would play as you zoomed and stop when you took control of the next guy. It continues in the trailer so I guess not.

Yeah a good stress-free distraction from all of the killing in the game. The Tennis and Scuba diving looked really good too.

I mean we know what GTA is. The only real differences in the games are the mini-games they have and the music. Bowling was one of the most fun I had in GTAIV and Air Hockey in the Lost and Damned.

Exclusive interview:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vBpTePVmdmg?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Points of interest from the interview:
  • "Over 1,000 car customization options" (Bulletproof tires, armor, etc.)
  • Cars will turn up in an impound if left in the street. Must pay a fine to retrieve it
  • You can't directly "weaponize" your car, but there are a lot of little options. (Car leaking petrol and light em up, sticky bombs)
  • Guns will be with you throughout the whole game
  • Customized guns will broaden range of options during missions. (Stealthy vs. loud, Scope, etc.)
  • Moved from static fights to free focus. Quickly switch your focus to other enemies.
  • No longer need to lock on to enemies, although you can lock on if you wish
  • "Hits are much more satisfying"
  • Each character has different animation. Strength stat has a bearing on melee capability
  • Expect really cool destruction/carnage/damage
  • Combat AI much more advance with more knowledge of environment
  • Enemies will behave different by who they are (SWAT is organized, gang members are more "gung ho")
  • 3 protag will feel natural and will not feel like a balancing act, allowing the game to feel more natural. (if Franklin and Michael are in a car, you can drive as Michael, switch to Franklin, and Michael will continue driving)
  • Shooting stat will affect steadiness of aim, amount of ammo you can carry, aim stability, etc. (You can go to the shooting range to increase stat. Also goes up if you kill an enemy. You are rewarded for better kills like head shots)
  • Car horns can be customized

Listening to the interview, there are bits of info not included in the points of interest I posted. For example, the guy from R* just said you could ride a bulldozer through cars.

According to Rockstar, the gameplay trailer shown off yesterday was running off from the PS3 build of the game.

They are also currently rumored to be hiring employees to work on a potential PC version of the game.

The Sabre Turbo in that screenshot reminds me of my favorite REAL vehicle of all-time, the 4-4-2.

I don't think our V can reach that level, though, Rockstar's devs are the best. Make no mistake, this will raise the potential of video games.

Didn't they end up sort of having that feature in SA though.

It wasn't GTA V style with swappable characters or you playing as any of your friends but the map did have certain spots that allowed for co-op to be possible.

Kalyx triaD 07-11-2013 03:03 PM

I wouldn't say that's the same.

Drakul 07-11-2013 05:26 PM

I already posted that.

Kalyx triaD 07-11-2013 11:39 PM

...What are you asking?

Emperor Smeat 07-11-2013 11:54 PM

Was a post about Kojima's reaction to the trailer I made and completely overlooked Drakul had made the same post before the DYK gaming one.

Ended up deleting it.

I didn't mean it to sounds jerk-like. Like "I already posted that!!". I was just busy so I had to make it a quick message. Incase it does sound jerk-like.

Drakul 07-12-2013 02:10 AM

My brother and I used to do the 2-player SA thing and it was always fun. I think he always played as a priest and we'd use gun/ammo cheats and spawn flying cars etc. I'd really like it if they could crowbar something like that into V, ad well.

V is sounding like it's what they wanted SA to be, if it wasn't for the limitations of the time.

Savio 07-12-2013 03:19 PM

Me and my friend wouls always put the "Moon Jump" Cheat on GTA:SA when playing 2 players, it was really fun, only draw back was you could not shoot in the air.

I also like how sometimes when you got in a car your weapon would not change to an Uzi and you could do drive bys with a shotgun.....never knew how to do that on cue though

Drakul 07-12-2013 04:12 PM

Never knew you could do drivebys with anything other than uzis and handguns.

Fun fact: Driveby is preset into the Wii U predictive text. Words like sex are not. Penile is, though, strangely.

Savio 07-12-2013 04:31 PM

It was like a glitch that would happen 1 out of 10 times

Drakul 07-12-2013 04:43 PM

It probably had a trigger like cycling backwards through your weapons as you got into a certain car.

Nicky Fives 07-12-2013 05:34 PM

sweet little baby Jesus on the cross this game looks amazing....

I was thinking earlier tonight about something R* said way back at the start of the whole GTA V thing when everyone was asking if we'll see Niko or Tommy etc again. This might be spoiler-like but I'm not sure.

R* said that there was a mission in the game in which you'll encounter/rescue someone from a past GTA. Not long before then, R* said that GTA 1 and 2 were one universe/timeline, while 3, VC and SA were another and IV was it's own and V is a new universe/timeline. So, how could someone from a past GTA be in V if V is a new universe?
In this same statement, which was triggered by someone asking about graffiti in GTA IV, they said that one GTA character was able to exist in multiple GTA universes, besides Lazlow. Now, I think this is who we'll see in GTA V:

SPOILER: show
http://www.igrandtheftauto.com/img/c...640x0/2156.jpg
El Burro. He was in GTA 1, maybe 2 I can't recall, he was also in III. There was a graffiti image of him in IV. I think he'll be in V. It makes sense if he's the only one that R* has said exists in multiple universes and he's been in 1, 2, 3 and 4 in some way.

I know it sounds crazy.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sgSNJ6ZQmF8?rel=0&start=20&end=25&autoplay=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Kalyx triaD 07-12-2013 09:32 PM

Seems strange that any GTA would have to exist in separate timelines since nothing particularly world breaking or retcon inducing occurs in any game. No idea why they would do that.

And on that, that's probably why we never got a mega-GTA with every city accessible via airplane or train. ...Still waiting on that dream, I spoke about this before.

Drakul 07-13-2013 02:49 AM

I know but it's just the way they define the eras, I guess. the original, the 3D and the HD eras. They did explicitly say that that character can exist in multiple universes. Which is weird because GTA is hardly sci-fi. Then there were the reports that R* had said we'll see someone from a previous GTA. It fits pretty well.

El Fangel 07-13-2013 08:08 AM

I seem to remember flying to Liberty City to kill someone once. What game was that? San Andreas?

ClockShot 07-13-2013 09:19 AM

Yeah. Going back to St. Mark's to whack the mob at the restaurant.

El Fangel 07-13-2013 09:39 AM

I am trying to remember other instances.

I know Catalinas new BF was the guy from GTA3

Drakul 07-13-2013 09:53 AM

All within the same era of games. There are a few more instances:

SPOILER: show
The guy you play as in Liberty City Stories is the dead guy in the back of a car in an early mission in GTA III.

Also, something about VC stories has you play as Lance Vances brother and something happens to him in the original VC.

El Fangel 07-13-2013 10:25 AM

Ken Rosenberg. Love that guy.
