Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reports Logan Mankins and Vincent Jackson are still holding out for $10 million apiece to settle the Brady v. NFL antitrust suit.
Jackson has tweeted that he's not holding out for any special considerations, but the NFLPA lawyers certainly are on his behalf. Attorney Jeffrey Kessler, in particular, is slowing the process with this ridiculous demand as well as the delay in union recertification.

Aaand the owner's have approved by a vote of 31-0 (Raiders abstained). Goodell says facilities can open Saturday and the league year can start Wednesday.

Ball is in the players court now. Their conference call begins shortly.

College free agency and the conditional signing of rookie draft picks are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday

Proposed deal is for 10 years with no early opt out

Skippord 07-21-2011 08:48 PM

Getting ridiculous now...

Quote:

According to SI.com's Jim Trotter, "you can take it to the bank" that the players will not ratify the owners' proposal "as currently presented."
Commissioner Roger Goodell was left with the impression that NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith will recommend the proposal to his constituents, but the player reps aren't ready to recertify just yet. NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports there are still at least "four or five" outstanding issues in the NFL's tentative document. Several player reps have told ESPN that they are "unhappy" that the owners' actions have "painted us into a corner." The bottom line is that there is still negotiating
Quote:

NFLPA boss De Smith sent an email to the board of player representatives, clarifying that there is "no agreement" with the owners as of Thursday night.
In a final power play, it's beginning to look more and more like the owners ratified their own proposal rather than an agreement between the two sides. Profootballtalk's Mike Florio believes "there's no way" players will approve the deal Thursday night, as the NFLPA insists on collectively bargaining several outstanding issues. We're no longer buying commissioner Goodell's claim that Smith signed off on this deal. The NFL is simply tightening the vice grip to apply pressure in the public eye.

Breer reports that the players conference call is NOT going well right now

Droford 07-21-2011 09:48 PM

I hope if this doesnt happen the NFL crashes and burns and becomes less popular than the WNBA.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-23-2011 02:41 PM

Nice. I think we were all waiting for one of the sides to make a completely dickhead move that just makes everyone hate them. Was getting nervous that it might not happen as we were getting this close to the end.

But god bless those owners, they found a way.

FearedSanctity 07-23-2011 03:24 PM

Apparently the players have "cooled off", and now they have all 10 plaintiffs on board. So really all that's left is assuring the have the 50% +1 for the vote Monday

IC Champion 07-23-2011 04:07 PM

Yeah, Owners were pretty crafty and have done a good job of putting the heat on the players.

Emperor Smeat 07-24-2011 06:40 PM

ESPN is reporting from one of its sources that the NFLPA and owners have agreed on terms for all the remaining issues and the players will vote to approve the new CBA tomorrow.

The owners also dropped a few of their demands to get the players vote by Monday with the biggest being the union can re-certify after the voting and not before or on the same day as the owners demanded.

RP 07-25-2011 12:06 PM

I don't mind if Brett Favre wants to play.

FearedSanctity 07-25-2011 03:26 PM

And it's over.

Free agent negotiations and apparently trades begin tomorrow, signings on Friday

Innovator 07-25-2011 04:59 PM

FOOTBALL!

Ok Giants, let's go get a linebacker.

Team Sheep 07-25-2011 08:31 PM

The Santonio and Braylon stuation is gonna be interesting as hell this week. Got a bad feeling about it all.

DaveWadding 07-25-2011 09:09 PM

The Ravens drop the boom, cutting Derrick Mason, Todd Heap, Willis McGahee and Kevin Gregg.

RP 07-26-2011 02:17 AM

Todd Heap? Wow.

Aguakate 07-26-2011 05:33 AM

The lockout ends, Brett Favre SOMEHOW is inserted into the discussion, and BINGO...once again, we have the "will he play or won't he?" speculation, like every season...

...shit.

Todd Heap would look awesome in KC red.

RP 07-26-2011 06:22 AM

Ok lets give Peyton all the money and fill the rest of the positions with canadian football league players... Woooo wooooo!

Evil Vito 07-26-2011 12:27 PM

The Giants signed Mark Herzlich. I am ecstatic right now.

Hanso Amore 07-26-2011 01:27 PM

Im seeing reports of him to the Ravens....

FearedSanctity 07-26-2011 01:39 PM

The Ravens reports were premature last night. He was just on NFLN talking why he chose the Giants, so it's safe to say that's a done deal

Innovator 07-26-2011 04:24 PM

Sad to see both go.

Just under $20 million in cap room by releasing them. McGahee was the least surprising though I do worry they might miss having a veteran backup RB.. Ive heard that its likely they'll try to keep Heap with a reduced contract but I dont know if he'd stay for less money.

As for Mason, he's been Flaccos #1 target but with Boldin and Torrey Smith and the possibility of using some of that extra cap room to grab Sidney Rice or Santonio Holmes, it was a no brainer. Personally rooting for Holmes since signing Sidney Rice means they have to redo Ray Rice's Jersey (R. Rice and S. Rice) but I guess if thats the worst problem I can come up with its not that bad...lol Plus Steve Smith from Carolina wants to be traded to either the Ravens or Chargers..I would love to see the Ravens WR be Boldin/Holmes or Rice/Steve Smith/Torrey Smith..

Also, they signed Damien Berry from the U as an undrafted Rookie to probably replace McGahee backup to Ray Rice.

Droford 07-26-2011 04:27 PM

Some Ravens fans want the money spent on Nnamdi Asomugha, but I have a weird feeling he turns out to be a bust for whatever team overspends to get him..

Not that the Ravens couldn't use a top tier CB..cause the Ravens CBs all blow..but I just wouldn't do it...would rather have another top WR to compliment Boldin.

Droford 07-26-2011 05:06 PM

Carson Palmer is going to retire since the Bengals wont trade him, leaving $50 million over the next 4 years.

The Bengals QB options are Andy Dalton and Jordan Palmer, but probably some veteran QB. Im predicting now that Marc Bulger will end up there instead of taking the backup job for the Ravens.

Emperor Smeat 07-26-2011 05:41 PM

Banta-Cain gets cut from Patriots while Mankins agrees to sign his franchise tag and arrive on time in camp.

Banta-Cain suffered due to really bad medical advice since he got talked out of a small surgery when last season ended and then was told he actually needed the surgery right when the lockout ended. Instead of just recovering during the offseason, he now looses all of pre-season and camps to go along with at least 1-2 weeks of the regular season because of that bad advice.

Matt Hasselbeck won't return to Seattle regardless of their offer based on the latest report.

Cowboys set to cut Marion Barber and Roy Williams. Also getting cut are Leonard Davis and their kicker Kris Brown. The team might be going after Asomugha based on some rumors.

DeSean Jackson might hold out and not show for the Eagles training camp. He wants a new contract since he feels he's vastly underpaid for his great stats (under $1 million per year).

Supreme Olajuwon 07-26-2011 06:53 PM

So glad that Mike Brown would rather not cave in to a player's demands than build a competitive team.

When Mike Brown sets his sights on something, he will not be moved by anything until he gets it. If only he'd set his sights on winning, the Bengals would have 30 Super Bowls by now.

Nark Order 07-26-2011 07:19 PM

Ugh, Alex Smith is a free agent but the 49ers are most likely going to re-sign him. Apparently he's put in an asston of work in the off season but come the fuck on.

Nark Order 07-26-2011 07:23 PM

All of these quarterbacks on the fucking trading black, yet were probably gonna roll with Alex again. Fuck.

Crimson 07-26-2011 10:52 PM

The Bengals owner is a jerk if he doesn't trade Palmer

Innovator 07-26-2011 11:01 PM

Giants talking to Plaxico about a potential return. Lets go Plaxinno.

Hey, that's no way to refer to Donovan McNabb!

ClockShot 07-27-2011 09:31 AM

Matt Hasselbeck to the Titans on a multi-year deal.

So the $64,000 question: Where's Vince Young going to end up?
