It just amazes that a team striped of any bit of credibility, with no stars left, people are picking to be great within the next year..

As I've said numerous times, sure they gained Turner, who has the potential to be good, but has never been a premiere back.. Same with Ryan.. He is a good QB, but hasn't proven himself at the pro level.. That topped with the fact they have no out standing WR, lost their probowl TE to the Titans, have a struggling o-line, and lost the only shutdown player they had on defense (Hall), I just don't see how people are crowning them as a great team with so many unporven elements, and loosing what proven elements they had..

Yeah those are all good points (although Roddy White is a pretty good WR, I dunno if he's "outstanding" but he's an NFL #1 in my mind) about the Falcons. I dunno if they are gonna compete this year or next but I think they'll be a lot better than last year, last year was just a complete shitshow thanks to the whole Vick thing.

#1-norm-fan 08-27-2008 12:20 AM

I'm really not going to argue my feeling that Atlanta is about a year away from crawling out of the basement. I'm just VERY high on Matt Ryan and think he is a player an entire team can be built around, they should be able to run the ball and I think they could make strides on defense. They've got some pretty good players. Like Houston just kinda quietly became a team to talk about last year, I feel like Atlanta is the team to do the same next year.

As for this year, I can see them winning a couple games that will catch people's eye but ultimately finishing last in the division probably. Who knows though.

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 01:38 AM

Personally, I hate Hall (specially the spitting shit) but he is a badass shutdown corner..

Mr. Monday Morning 08-27-2008 03:35 AM

David Carr played for Carolina last year when Delhomme went down and was absolutely awful. The guy can't play in the NFL, maybe he could've once upon a time but not now.

Also if Hall is so great why did Steve Smith toast him every single game they played?

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 12:41 PM

Every CB gets scored on now and again..

Mr. Monday Morning 08-27-2008 01:07 PM

Yeah but he played him twice a year for however many years. Smith got him EVERY TIME.

Hall is the ultimate hype player. Mouth over substance. He'll probably look like he played real well this year but only because teams just won't throw at Asomugha.

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 01:29 PM

Horn and Colston used to also eat him up.. The point I was trying to make, who else on their D was of that caliber??

Keith Brooking??

Pat Kerney??

They got rid of every superstar they had..

That was the point..

Boomer 08-27-2008 01:48 PM

Getting rid of the Falcon's "superstars" made sense. Whether they were past their prime or whether we were trying to save some money, they all made sense. I love Dunn and Crumpler, but their best years both look to be behind them (Dunn for sure). D. Hall was a pain and would have commanded far too much money. The Falcons needed new faces and got them.

And its not like every superstar is gone. Michael Boley and John Abraham are still around. Brooking is too, though past his prime. Luckily, he'll be playing weak side because of Curtis Lofton, so he doesn't have to be the center of our LB core anymore.

Here's to hoping this is a breakout year for White. Turner too.

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 01:59 PM

Dunn is past his prime but getting rid of Crumpler was a mistake IMO..

And about Boley, if he can keep his hitting of people on the field he'll be alright.. Odell Thurman of the South..

Boomer 08-27-2008 02:01 PM

Odell Thurman did go to UGA, so I'm not sure that moniker works...but I get the idea

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 02:06 PM

He now plays in the north..

I like Boley cause he went to Southern, but that off the feild shit needs to go, if he's ever gonna be a premiere player..

Boomer 08-27-2008 02:09 PM

Correction...Thurman doesn't play anywhere...but I still get the idea...again.

Kris P Lettus 08-27-2008 02:26 PM

Shawne Merriman is foregoing surgery and playing this season.

Fucking idiot.

CSL 08-27-2008 07:35 PM

Yeah, seriously. When he's failing physicals with other teams @ like 28, he's gonna look back and be a sorry boy

RP 08-27-2008 07:36 PM

What a dumb human being this guy is. I hope not only that Chargers lose, but that his career is ended for being some fucking dumb. What a moron. I love the Chargers organization letting him do this too. No one has stepped in and said " listen, you arent playing. You need to get the surgery ". I mean they only have multi millions invested in his career right? I cant wait until this ends badly and then 5 years from now we get a Real Sports interview with Merriman as he coaches high school football for a living.

UmbrellaCorporation 08-27-2008 08:44 PM

I wish Norv Turner had balls enough and would be like "Shut up, you're not playing. Sit down, bitch.".

Retarded. Seriously.

Gonzo 08-27-2008 08:58 PM

Its his own career. So be it.

Norv was a couple of plays away from a super bowl... think he cares if Merriman ends his career if he gets through this year at 1/2 and 3/4 of what he normally is?

Must admit, if someone pancakes him and he blows out the knee and has to be carted off, it would be a bad time for the OL to do a "lights out" dance.

He's only signed through next season. They just gave his backup a 4 year extension though.

RP 08-28-2008 11:45 AM

Jeff Saturday is gone for 6 to 11 weeks and possibly the season. Fuck my white smelly ass. This is horrible. This is arguably the biggest loss in the NFL. Polian looks like a genius now cause he drafted 3 Centers in the draft.

Gonzo 08-28-2008 04:44 PM

lol rp

Ninti the Mad 08-28-2008 04:48 PM

#1-norm-fan 08-28-2008 05:54 PM

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

ADAM JONES REINSTATED!!!!!!!!!! I HEART YOU ROGER GOODELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gonzo 08-28-2008 06:07 PM

C'mon that was coming. After all this time. If Goodell didn't do it by now he is just an unforgiving bastard.

OssMan 08-28-2008 06:10 PM

lol, the Cowboys signing Adam Pacman Jones is such a Cowboys move. Like the most predictable thing ever. There is no way for him to be on the Cowboys without something hilarious happening.

#1-norm-fan 08-28-2008 06:15 PM

lol. "Such a Cowboys move"

OssMan 08-28-2008 06:28 PM

Yeah and winning the Superbowl is a Giants move

Ninti the Mad 08-28-2008 06:34 PM

Are we really gonna do this? lol. You especially?

As is actually making the playoffs last year...

As is NOT being one of the 5 most historically bad franchises of all time

As is actually having AT LEAST one Super Bowl ring...

Please.

Kris P Lettus 08-28-2008 06:58 PM

What's good about going to the playoffs if you don't win??

Explain that to me..

#1-norm-fan 08-28-2008 07:00 PM

#1-norm-fan 08-28-2008 07:10 PM

Since we're posting picture though...

While, changing quotes is quite the effective method of arguing via the internet, the simple fact is, the Saints have had more success in the past decade than the Cowboys.. Even blowing them the fuck out during our last meeting, where Mike "the Bulldozer" Karney scored 4 TD's.. All this with years of Arron Brooks and Ricky Williams, etc.. So, live in the past all you want, just remember this when Brokeback Romo fucks up another playoff game for you..
