I imagine they'll at least do a Beach Bash Dynamite.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2021 04:19 PM

510k is the number being reported for the latest AEW viewership. Meltzer is still sucking their dick. The mental gymnastics run deep.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2021 04:32 PM

Turns out 510k was too big. Closer to 501k.

slik 05-31-2021 04:38 PM

That's probably a good indicator of what Rampage will do in that same Friday timeslot, about 400-500k on average.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2021 04:40 PM

If that. Rampage is probably going to take a hit as the secondary show. Either that or they can go all hands in on it and hurt Dynamite.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2021 04:41 PM

And that isn’t for some time now. Numbers will likely drop between now and then.

Because I tweeted about AEW a few times, I now see "suggested tweets" related to it. Most of it's shit I don't care about and scroll right by.

But there's an account that posts "why is every episode of Dynamite the best episode of Dynamite" every week. I want to believe they're taking the piss, but rasslin Twitter is full of people who can't criticize one company or the other. It's really weird.

slik 06-01-2021 04:47 PM

That's Andy Nemmity. He and his wife, Amy Nemmity, go to every AEW PPV. They are really nice on twitter and joke around a lot. They run the website WrestleJoy.

They are huge marks tho too, as you can see from Amy wearing her AEW shirt to get vaccinated.

Evil Vito 06-01-2021 09:07 PM

My ex watched last year's Revolution with me (little did we know the world would shut down like 2 weeks later). She'd never watch wrestling full time but as a one off show she got a kick out of it.

Dating someone who tolerates wrestling is one thing but idk how I'd fare with a superfan. I saw a girl on a dating app where all her pics were wrestling related (wearing wrestling shirts, her with a replica belt, cosplaying as Bayley etc). I mean hey good for them doing what they like....but the idea of having to sit through Raw every week on date nights feels bleak.

Evil Vito 06-01-2021 09:21 PM

Awesome Kong and Shanna's contracts have expired. Kong hasn't been around since before the pandemic but I was wondering if she'd turn up as a surprise entrant in the women's battle royal at All Out, her first AEW run ended with that awful Nightmare Collective angle.

Volare 06-01-2021 10:14 PM

More bummed about Shanna.

Fignuts 06-01-2021 10:19 PM

Yeah Kong is pretty immobile these days but Shanna seemed better than most of the other girls on the roster.

Evil Vito 06-01-2021 10:38 PM

Shanna was supposedly a bit of a shithead to the extras they were bringing in to wrestle her on Dark. Toss in that she already had some heat on her last year for making Islamophobic posts on social media and I’m not too surprised she wasn’t renewed.

Lock Jaw 06-01-2021 11:16 PM

Oh, Rampage is a new show..... seen a few posts about AEW and "the Rampage deal" and assumed that AEW had signed former TNA Superstar Rampage Jackson

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2021 04:06 PM

I wonder what the excuses will be this week for Dynamite? Obviously they’ve got the NBA and dead time slot (which they earned for themselves). But I actually heard people using Covid being over as an excuse for poor ratings the other week. Covid was used as the reason the ratings were low by the same people. And for some reason this never applies to the WWE.

Jordan 06-04-2021 05:10 PM

It's Friday at 10pm, nobody is expecting Wednesday night numbers.

You’re one of the few, if you’re telling the truth. Most guesses I saw put them in the 600-700k range.

xrodmuc316 06-05-2021 01:22 PM

LOL HOLY SHIT!!! They gave freaking Andrade creative control and veto power over the match finishes!

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of from AEW.

Let me say that again... AEW gave ANDRADE creative control and veto power in his contract. Andrade.

Andrade gets to call his own shots.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Fignuts 06-05-2021 02:53 PM

Wanting to work for other companies while at the same time wanting any degree of creative control is having your cake and eating it too. AEW should have told him to fuck off.

erickman 06-05-2021 04:12 PM

well he is not going to get the belt any time soon, he might get the AAA belt from kenny. an let him diva out in AAA, an beat jobbers in aew an control that.

Mr. Nerfect 06-05-2021 04:59 PM

This thing looks more and more like WCW all the time. The inmates running the asylum. Creative control all over the place. Let’s be real — if Andrade didn’t put that into his deal, he’d still have been allowed to do whatever.

Only, unlike with WCW, there are no executives to fire the “Eric Bischoff” in this situation. This is like if Eric Bischoff’s daddy owned WCW. Only this one was never cool.

Mr. Nerfect 06-05-2021 05:01 PM

I’m still holding out hope beyond hope that someone else throws their hat into the wrestling game. There is enough free agent talent out there. A working agreement with New Japan is possible if you just present yourself within the realm of sports. There are even “stars” that are technically free agents right now. Brock Lesnar, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk and Samoa Joe come to mind. It’s very possible to put together one super-compelling show every week that would smoke anything out there.

Lock Jaw 06-05-2021 05:05 PM

Can you please fantasy book 1 month of said show in ARMCHAIR WARFARE style?

I’ll think about it. Honestly, wrestling has left me so fatigued lately. It’s just no fun engaging with it. The more interesting stories are in the backstage antics.

The closest thing I’ve come to fantasy booking lately are ways to make WWE...interesting again. And that’s hard, but honestly easier to do given the higher quality of the talent there.

SummerSlam could actually be a pretty amazing show. I think I randomly put together a card like this:

SPOILER: show

* Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title
* Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Title
* Edge vs. Seth Rollins
* Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title
* Drew McIntyre vs. AJ Styles
* Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks in a Ladder Match for the SmackDown Women’s Title
* Sheamus vs. Keith Lee for the US Title
* Randy Orton & Matt Riddle vs. Damian Priest & Bad Bunny for the Raw Tag Titles
* Apollo Crews vs. Cesaro for the IC Title
* The Usos vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn for the SmackDown Tag Titles
* Parker Bourdreaux vs. Rey Mysterio
* The New Day vs. John Morrison & Jinder Mahal
* Daniel Bryan vs. Drew Gulak
* Baron Corbin, Dirty Dawgz & Alpha Academy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, Big E, Rick Boogs & The Street Profits

A multi-man tag to throw a bunch of SmackDown faces and heels on the card. Could be a fun and hectic little match, especially with Gable and Nakamura in there. A win for the faces here wouldn’t go astray.

If Daniel Bryan re-signs, just put him on Raw and let him fucking wrestle. That’s a reason to watch right there. Gulak seems like a simple and obvious program for him. The two could tear it up. I’d probably make this the opener, I’m just too lazy to change it around here. This would be a kick-ass start to the show.

I don’t like Jinder Mahal, but maybe in a light-hearted heel tag team with Morrison he could work. This is obviously so the show gets exposure in India, because the WWE ticks boxes like that, even if I disagree with that level of tokenism. But this would be short, sweet, and see the heels go over when Big E heads out there to counteract Miz and ends up accidentally costing his team the win. #LongTermStorytelling

Parker Bourdreaux debuts with Eva Marie and remains a free agent. Paul Heyman is very interested in the route PB follows on-air. On the SmackDown side of things, he takes out Dominik Mysterio viciously to appeal to Roman Reigns & Heyman and to soften Rey up for The Usos. This leads to PB vs. Rey one-on-one at SummerSlam. If this isn’t fun, then maybe Parker doesn’t have that bright a future in the industry anyway.

Sami Zayn turns quasi-face to team with Owens against The Usos. We’ve never seen these two as a proper tag team in WWE. Not really. I think they’d make a great “star” team for the division to go against The Usos. Doesn’t really matter who wins here, as I could see the belts moving around quite a little bit.

The IC Title seems like a step down for Cesaro at this point, but it’d be a fun little match and a way to get him on the card. He could swing Azeez during this. I’d probably switch the belt for a little while here. Crews can move up or stay in the IC scene, it’s really up to you.

Orton & Riddle can win the Raw Tag Titles and have a little run. I’ve got them going against Priest & Bad Bunny...well, just because. Seems likely BB would be involved in SummerSlam. Going against Orton & Riddle doesn’t seem out of this world. This is where you can do a turn. I’d probably have Riddle turn on Orton though, and he can put together a WWE version of Catch Point with Drew Gulak, Timothy Thatcher and Oney Lorcan.

Keith Lee and Sheamus beat the piss out of each other for a few minutes and Lee wins the US Title.

Bianca Belair retains the SD Women’s Title in a Ladder Match that tries to tap into the spiritual link between other Ladder Matches at SummerSlam and grabbing the brass ring, yadda, yadda.

Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles could have a great wrestling match. Everything would point to Drew going over, but I’d actually put AJ over in a bit of a shocker in order to position him for a match against the WWE Champion.

I really don’t care who wins the Raw Women’s Title. It might seem sensible to put it onto Becky, but I think I’d probably have her not win the belt here, but either Rhea or Charlotte each the pin. Then Becky is frustrated about not eating the fall and Seth basically tells her to shut up because his match is more important. Boo, hiss. That old trick, lol.

Edge and Seth feud because Seth is basically the spiritual successor to Edge, and Edge tries to teach him that there are more important things. Maybe even slip in a line about becoming a father changing Edge, but it hasn’t changed Seth in the slightest. Seth as MITB holder would work here. The briefcase could even be on the line. I’d have Becky help Edge win here to put Seth in his place.

John Cena is probably not winning the belt if he comes back. Another win for Roman Reigns feeds that monster. Maybe Roman can go a step further after the match, allowing some babyfaces, maybe even the Usos to foil him. This could be a fun time for Edge to tease cashing in too.

Bobby has finally reached a point where wrestling Brock is interesting. I’d bring Brock back as a silent killer for this, with Heyman being asked about Brock’s motives but not really having a clue beyond Brock wanting to be WWE Champion. He can also give F5s to Drew and AJ since they seem like top candidates for next contenders. I don’t know if I would put the belt on Brock here, and it depends on his deal, but man — if you could get Brock for more dates... I’d still probably delay the moment of Brock winning the belt. But it could be interesting for Brock to win it, MVP to do something drastic to get a rematch, either at the next PPV or even on Raw, and Bobby to win it back there. I kind of like the idea of a Heyman-less Brock being less concerned about “protecting” himself, and even taking matches on Raw because he doesn’t have Paul there to remind him he doesn’t fight for free. Allows you to dial back on Brock later by simply having Heyman manage him again.

Don’t tell me that card wouldn’t shit all over anything AEW has put on...ever, really.

Mr. Nerfect 06-05-2021 07:13 PM

The real numbers for Revolution and Double or Nothing came out and Meltzer got “busted” for inflating them. “Busted” is in quotation marks, because it really depends on whether you think Meltzer is being dishonest on purpose, if he’s being misled, or his maths is just “optimistic.” His inflation rate is about 16%, so it’s up to you whether you feel that “reporting” should come under fire or not.

Personally, I think Meltzer’s coverage of AEW has been horrible. He’s deliberately confusing. I see people talking about 132k like it’s the US buyrate, not realizing that not only was it closer to 115k, but that is inclusive of international buys. There’s a reason he’s never clear on that. 132k sounds way more impressive than 75k North American buys. And then you can’t say they did better than any promotion since WCW, since ECW used to smash that on the reg.

I know he’s been nice to hb2k and all that, but as a wrestling reporter, he’s really lost it. More often than not I see a report about WWE from him and know the truth is probably in the opposite direction. His insight into “AEW vs. NXT” was fanboyish and juvenile, and his flat-out bias towards AEW has led to omissions and glaringly false or inaccurate reporting that is clear bullshit to anyone who applies a few seconds of critical thought.

I don’t even think Dave is taking a pay check for this. I don’t think he needs one. I’m not sure if it’s just to coddle subscribers and the markish anti-WWE/pro-AEW sentiment, or whether he’s just being misled all the time and his WWE sources have dried up, but I think he’s just...lost it. He’s a fan/commentator who likes what he likes, and what he likes isn’t very good.

He did that with their last PPV, then had to completely backtrack.

Mr. Nerfect 06-05-2021 08:05 PM

Brandon Thurston and WrestleNomics are the ones sharing the Meltzer melting numbers, for those curious. I don’t think they’re trying to bury Dave, but I don’t how you can see Meltzer being so high on both Double or Nothing and Revolution and still give the guy any benefit of the doubt when it comes to his “data” or assumptions based off it.
