Mario Lemieux I'd say is the most talented of all time. But here is the one statistc that separates the "Great One" from the rest

Three players have posted 100 assists in a season: Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux

Orr did it 1 time
Lemieux did it 1 time
Gretzky did it 11 times

Which should tell you about the support he had in the high flying 80s more than anything else.

But you actually do touch on my philosophy which is:

Who had the most successful career: Wayne Gretzky
Who in my opinion is actually the most skilled of all time: Mario Lemieux

El Fangel 12-10-2010 03:15 AM

Not to discount, Kurri or Messier. But I would hands down take Jagr on my wing first.

Also, you take a look at the big 5, Gretzky, Howe, Richard, Orr and Lemeiux, you have the greatest forwards the game has ever seen, howevwr.

Howe and Richards were the 50-60's greatest
Orr took over in the early 70's
Gretzky owned the 80's
Lemieux, The 90's
Sadly, there isn't an apparent best for the 2000-2010 period. Arguably Crosby, Ovy for second half.
I think, in 10 years, you will see Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Malkin for 2010-2020

Just for the record Orr was a defenceman

That statistic is insane. Gretzky made players, players didn't make Gretzky. Support is not what created this.

The only thing Gretzky had in defense of your argument was that he had an enforcer.

If Gretzky never had a goal in his career he is the number one point scorer of all time.

El Fangel 12-10-2010 05:37 AM

You know, I have to say that assisting on a goal by passing can be as hard as scoring.

Accurately passing to a moving teammate, banking off the boards, etc. Is something that takes a lot of skill.

Kapoutman 12-10-2010 12:54 PM

By playing hockey three times a week, I'll tell you that yes, making an accurate pass is harder than it look, but it's much easier to get on the board for an assist. you can just be the guy who handed it to the player who then made the real play-making pass, and you still get a nod.

El Fangel 12-10-2010 01:01 PM

First assist rather, not secondary.

Londoner 12-11-2010 09:01 PM

kiss my ass, montreal!!!!

Arashi Kage 12-11-2010 10:29 PM

lol, Brian Burke is sitting next to Pat Quinn at Markus Naslund's jersey retirement in Vancouver. Wonder if Quinn's like, "So Burkie, you need any help behind the bench in T.O?". :shifty:

Classy video message from Bertuzzi just shown while I was writing this. Never liked Bertuzzi even though he played OHL here when I was a kid, but great message to Naslund. Cool to see Bertuzzi putting on a 'nucks jersey one more time. :y:

El Fangel 12-11-2010 11:12 PM

I love the fact that Toronto fans are all over tonights game.

1) You beat a backup in his second start in almost 30 games
2) Your still not in the playoffs...not even close.

Arashi Kage 12-11-2010 11:41 PM

Habs shouldn't beat themselves up over this loss. I expected the Habs to come out flat tonight after the amazing performance they put on in the 3rd period against Detriot. It was full throttle for the whole period, they were bound to be worn out tonight.

How is this team winning honestly.

Its Crosby and a group of ragtags, Malkin and Staal are out. They have Gogo and Tang on the PP.

What else? Fleury? HAHAHAHAAH

LoDownM 12-12-2010 02:19 PM

 You act like it's impossible for a goalie to get out of a slump or a team to get hot with star players out.

YOUR Hero 12-12-2010 08:07 PM

Fleury is a good goalie. He can be streaky at times, but he's a good goalie

Londoner 12-12-2010 08:28 PM

Can't believe Washingtons losing streak, whats up with them? Got their match v NY rangers on atm. Good so far.

Look at the top goalies this year and their stats last year.

Londoner 12-12-2010 09:04 PM

Washington 3-0 down, fuck this i'll watch minnesota v anaheim.

El Fangel 12-12-2010 09:58 PM

Down 5-0, Ovy in a fight.

Londoner 12-12-2010 10:35 PM

bizarre situation just happened for anaheims 5th goal, can't be arsed describing it.

Letang you mean the guy who is tied for 2nd in the NHL for points by a defenceman, is gonna likely be on the starting roster for the all star game and leads the league in +/-, btw Gogo plays 2nd PP, it's Martin and Letang usually. Btw Fleury has completely and utterly rebounded from his bad start, oh and key to the Pens winning Defence they are third in the league in Lowest Goals against per game, 2nd in the league in PK%. Also their rag tag guys re putting pucks in at opportune times. They have a lot of underrated grinders that wear out the other time and kill the clock super efficiently when they have the lead

parkmania 12-13-2010 12:06 AM

Lara, you forgot something about Letang - he's the #2 votegetter for the all-star game AND HE'S A WRITE-IN VOTE!

Tim Thomas (huge rebound year, he lost his starting job last year to Rask)
Ondrej Pavelec (only played half of his team's games last year had a GAA of over 3)
Carey Price (Lost his job to Halak)

None of these guys were top goalies last year, all of them have rebounded huge this year. So living proof that goalies can rebound, Fleury's stats since his rebound would put him neck and neck with the league's top goalie's

Yup that's why I said he'll likely be on the starting roster for the All-Star game, as it stands right now he's an early legit candidate for the Norris

Wasn't calling Tang and Gogo ragtags by any means, just the rest of the forwards Crosby is playing with. Kennedy, Dupuis, Kunitz, etc. Aren't exactly elite talent as I'm sure you are aware.

Real shocking as the guy who runs the powerplay that the league leader in points is on gets votes.

Basically what I'm trying to say, goalies who are consistent year after year are hard to come by.

Agreed, weird how Doughty, Green, Keith, Etc have been out of the running thus far.
I want Lidstrom though. Guy is dominant at 40...

Is this the time where we all question him and explain how he's a scorer not a fighter?!

See Crosby: 20 some games ago.

Although the Pens are my "official" favorite team (since they have been my whole life), ever since Lemieux retired again my philosophy has been to cheer for all the Canadian teams first, Pens second. Even though I've been a life long Leafs hater, I do cheer for them on occasion now, lol.

In that case, it means I like the Habs!!

GO HABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (awwww, Thomas racked up a loss tonight for the B's :p )

I missed the first 2 periods, Bruins came on fairly strong during the last half of the 3rd, out hustled the Habs to the puck. Great effort on their part. :y:

weather vane 12-16-2010 11:05 PM

I am not saying that the Habs are terrible but the whole team is full of jerk offs.

Really is only 1 or 2 likable guys on the whole team. The rest of them are complete cocksuckers.

El Fangel 12-17-2010 03:00 AM

Gotta agree with Spilly on that.

Camel, Gionta, Hamrlik, Plekanec and Price are ok. I don't really care for the rest so much.

Fuck Scott Gomez.
