Well done West Ham, were the better side but it was a poor game.

Riquelme and Saviola will both be allowed to leave by Barça to get some money and more non-EU spaces.

Danny Electric 05-30-2005 02:35 PM

Barcelona want to sell Riquelme and Villareal can't afford his wages, according to Skysports.com they want to sell him as part of a deal with Saviola.

lol Figo's been released apparently. Lets see all these ridiculous Tottenham stories come up again.

Good to see Newcastle interested in Van Buyten he looked like a good defender (whilst at Man City who were shambolic defensively at the time) though I feel its more in the full backs that we need to strengthen. I believe hes just a centre back.

Mr. Monday Morning 06-01-2005 07:41 AM

Last I saw it was more likely Figo'd go to Liverpool :$

Wengerland 06-01-2005 08:49 AM

ahahaha have it Figo you cunt.

Looks like Darren Bent has joined Charlton.

I really would love to see Figo in the Premiership for a couple of seasons. Hopefully not at Spurs, preferably at a good side.

Really well on occasion as well as fucking terrible on others.

Wengerland 06-01-2005 03:11 PM

Liverpool are in talks with Zenden too.

Traore would be decent backup, i wouldn't want him in the first choice eleven though.

Danny Electric 06-01-2005 04:48 PM

Traore is a liabaility and a weak link.

I agree with that 100%

Traore has shown touches of brilliance at times, he has the ability to put in some absolutely superb challenges and is good in the air, unfortunatly at the same time he can be incredibly clumsy and his positional sense is lacking. The second half of this season he has been excellent, but I would certainly like to see someone ahead of him, even if it means moving Riise back and bringing in another left sided midfielder....

I don't want that to be Zenden.

Zenden is a good player, he's creative and has excellent passing, but we already have 2 players like that in the centre of midfield, and I think we need 2 proper speedy wingers next season.

If we do go ahead with Morientes and Cisse up front, we have one player who is awesome in the air, who can get on the end of crosses, and another who is quick and can get in behind the defence, so we really need wingers.

I know we've been linked to Joaquin (although he's probably Real bound) and he'd be perfect, especially if we had Garcia on the left. Hell, SWP would be a good right winger to have. We just need something special on the wings

Mr. Monday Morning 06-01-2005 05:28 PM

You'd have to spend your entire budget to get Joaquin

Wengerland 06-01-2005 06:07 PM

I'd rather you played Cisse and Morientes too, but should Aimar arrive it's really unlikely that all 3 would start as you don't leave Gerrard or Alonso out as you've got one of the best central midfield pairings in the world in those two.

You'd have to be in the champions league to get Joaquin as he could get it by just staying with Betis now, and as Adam said, he'd be costly. I'd snap Zenden up if he's alright to compete with Riise or someone else, as he's a good player and free, or you could give Kewell another chance.

Milito's a sound defender, but if you just move Riise back or get Evra at left back then the defence with Hyypia in would be fine. The goalkeeping thing is the main area, Kirkland and Dudek on their day are both good keepers but one is always injured and the other is inconsistent, but Carson is good enough to be at least second choice so you could let both go and get Reina, i'm not sure about that myself.

I hope you get SWP, but he'd be pretty costly and Reina and Milito will cost about £12m at least between them, not sure how much you'd get for Dudek and Kirkland, so SWP could be out of range, could just go for Figo instead.

Cactus Sid 06-01-2005 07:44 PM

Its hard to say whats gonna happen because its all about who we sell first, I've heard Rafa has quite a kitty if we are accepted into the Champions League.

The goalkeeper situation is strange, because I can't see us having 4 quality keepers on the books. I can't see Dudek playing second fiddle to Reina, so my guess is he's off. Kirkland's supposed to be going to West Brom on loan for the season as well. Mind you, everything could change, because we've released Luzi and Harrison. The talk on the LFC board is using Dudek has a make weight for a bid for Dirk Kuijt but I'm not so sure.

Diouf is gone, probably for about 3 million, Cheryou is bound to be off to Marseille or wherever, but we wont get much more than a million for him. Diao will probably go as well.

Then we have the maybe's.

Now, I have a feeling that if Didi does leave (and I have a strong suspicion that he will) we might bring Alou Diarra back. Played brilliant for Lens and has broken into the French National side, so he mau come back. On the other hand, if Rafa has no plans for him, his stock will have risen in France, so he could be worth a couple of mill.

Dudek may leave, but again, it wont be for more than 2, 2 and a half million. Baros may go, probably for around 5 million, maybe Kewell off, but no-one knows how much we'd get for him.

We are releasing or probably releasing, Smicer, Pellegrino and Didi, which'll save us a 100,000 a week on wages.

So, assuming all of those players left, we'd get about....£15 million maybe.

Then we can look at buying players.

The thing about Aimar.....is he's a Rafa player. Benitez loves the idea of 4-5-1, and Aimar is one of the best players in the world for that position behind the strikers. But I just don't think 4-5-1 works in the Premiership. Its down to Rafa to think, does our European style work in the Premiership? And last season showed that it doesn't. So I think he may think twice about signing Aimar.

I think Joaquin is gonna go to Madrid anyway, there was just something on the LFC website about him maybe signing from us, from a fairly good source usually, it was basically him saying he loved Benitez and thought that Liverpool played a great style of football, nothing to suggest he'd sign for us though.

Milito and Evra would be great additions, plus we could probably get them both cheap (ish) considering Zaragoza and Monaco have money problems. At least, thats the theory.

We were linked with Figo back in January, so its a possibility. I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him, although it might push Luis Garcia out of the side, which would make me cry :'(

We'll have to wait and see, there are so many factors to consider, and things to happen before you can say what we need, and what we'll have to get it.

Suffice to say, I think Merseyside will be the busiest place for transfers this summer.

Danny Electric 06-01-2005 08:20 PM

I don't know about Luis Garcia, I'm still undecided. His control lets him down alot, he's sloppy with his passes and sometimes he doesn't look up quick enough.

El Capitano Gatisto 06-01-2005 08:26 PM

Got a funny feeling Liverpool might enter the bidding for Robbie Keane, if it kicks off. Don't know why, I can just see it happening.

El Capitano Gatisto 06-01-2005 08:28 PM

And Liverpool can't afford Joaquin, unless Benitiz pulls another fast one and gets him for a ridiculous knock-down price like he did Xabi Alonso. Joaquin is in no hurry to leave Betis, they don't want to sell him, and Chelsea opened the bidding at £24 million.

But Real Sociedad were quoting £30 million for Alonso before there was any talk of Liverpool getting him, and it was all Manchester United or Real Madrid.

Dazz 06-01-2005 10:44 PM

RBF, O'brien is absolute shit, and Pompey are going down.

Also, I used to have nightmares about Figo smashing the fuck out of me in dark alleys :$, he looks so scary its beyond true, I really think he looks so fucking hard, I'd really hate to see him in a dark alley

Mr. Monday Morning 06-02-2005 07:52 AM

I bet you admire his hair as well

Dazz 06-02-2005 09:01 AM

Just about £2m yeah

The Mackem 06-02-2005 10:49 AM

Dazz bringing up people's hair again.

At the moment Sunderland seem to be being linked to every promising player in the country but as yet no what I would class seasoned Premiership players, which are a necessity. I think we need somebody who is pushing 30 and has played in the Premiership for the last 5 plus years of his career with proven quality otherwise we are going to have a load of kids turning out against some good teams.

packt up 06-02-2005 11:33 AM

Hey Mackem you should get in there for Lee Bowyer he fits your description perfectly ;)
