Howard would be a good sign for Boston if it is a 1 or 2 year deal.

Rebirth 06-30-2016 10:40 PM

If Dwight Howard gets 24 million per season then.. wtf!

Emperor Smeat 07-01-2016 07:19 PM

Hawks ended up getting Dwight Howard with a 3 year, $70.5 million deal.

Around $1.5 million less overall than the $24 million per year he wanted as a basis.

Emperor Smeat 07-01-2016 11:08 PM

Outside of the Thunder, Cs and Clippers currently are being aggressive in trying to sign Kevin Durant.

Cs want a deal with Al Horford done as soon as possible to help persuade Durant to sign with them while ESPN states Durant was "blown away" with how good a recent meeting with the Clippers went.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-02-2016 07:39 PM

C's deal with Horford is in the books. Still a good signing in my book even if it doesn't sway Durant to sign.

Emperor Smeat 07-02-2016 07:50 PM

If the reporter who broke the news is correct, Thunder might be out of the Durrant sweeps as a result. Durrant had been courting Horford to sign with the Thunder as his own assurance he'd be staying.

Now that's gone and other offers looking more favorable, Durrant might be gone now.

Ruien 07-02-2016 10:48 PM

Hope Durrant goes to the Celtics. Really want to Cavs to have an actual playoff oppenent before the finals.

Bad News Gertner 07-03-2016 08:20 AM

Jazz sign Joe Johnson. Nice move.

Ruien 07-03-2016 11:12 AM

Jazz should make the playoffs this year. Doubt the Mavs will get in. Houston might miss out too. Hoping New Orleans puts on a better showing this year.

All in all it does not matter. Will only be like 4 serious contenders like always.

Emperor Smeat 07-03-2016 10:15 PM

According to ESPN and league sources, the Durrant sweeps are down to the Warriors, Thunder, and Cs. Depending on reports, its either between Thunder vs Cs or Thunder vs Warriors for his final decision.

Evil Vito 07-03-2016 11:22 PM

If he goes to the Warriors there's not even a point to having a season next year.

Evil Vito 07-04-2016 12:08 PM

Aaaaaand Durant is going to the Warriors.

My interest in the NBA has waned more and more as the years have gone on, but this the final nail in the coffin. I can't get invested in a sport when there are only 2 teams that are actual contenders to win a title.

DaveWadding 07-04-2016 12:19 PM

Durant is a giant pussy.

Simple Fan 07-04-2016 12:41 PM

I don't think it's a good move. He's pretty much what they already have and doesn't bring anything new to the team. I thought they should have went after Horford or another big, the defiantly didn't need another shooter. Thompson will now get less shots and I'm not sure about it.They needed to get bigger and tougher not add more shooters in my opinion.

Rebirth 07-04-2016 01:11 PM

I know my #1 pick in Fantasy Basketball will be Russel Westbrook now. That dude is probably going to try to average 45 a night. #Heroball82games

They will get rid of Barnes and just take shots away from some bench players. Now they have a player that can take the ball and play is basketball then they need it (which isn't that many times but they still could have used it a few times against Cleveland).

Simple Fan 07-04-2016 02:20 PM

Barnes and Bogut are rumored to be heading to Dallas. I could see Dirk coming to GS but I still don't think that is enough toughness inside.

ClockShot 07-04-2016 02:55 PM

Durant to the Warriors. Hope he knows that Stephen Curry's team.

WHATCHA GONNA DO NOW, PHIL JACKSON!?

Crimson 07-04-2016 03:57 PM

Durant you giant bitch. OkC was a beast team if you returned. Pieces were in place to take out the Warriors with Oladipo coming in. Guess he just wants to blend in the background with a bunch of shooters instead of being the man. Big puss

ClockShot 07-04-2016 04:04 PM

Pau Gasol on his way to San Antonio.

Aldridge, Ginobili, Parker, Gasol, and (possible) Duncan. Pop's Boys might be better than the Durant-added Warriors.

McLegend 07-04-2016 04:36 PM

I think the Warriors will win 58-63 games and not make the finals.

Still a really good season though.

Simple Fan 07-04-2016 04:45 PM

It's Championship or bust for them though a really good season won't cut it.

According to the Boston Herald, the breakdown behind the scenes with teams wanting Durrant ended up being Durrant liking the Cs but not the East, wouldn't have picked the Warriors if it wasn't for Jerry West, and seems like the whole time he wanted out of OKC because of Westbrook.

Quote:

the Clippers, despite the fact they would have to gut the club’s support players, were very much in the picture early after their talk with Durant, but pulled out when faced with the potential of losing some of their own key free agents.
Quote:

“He’s told people for a while that he likes that whole Celtics thing and the tradition and the way the people there are into the team — all the teams up there,” said a league source. “But I still think he was looking out West. The part I don’t know is how much the Horford signing made him stop and think again about Boston, but I think it had to be some.”
Quote:

Interestingly, some of the teams in the hunt were told that Durant was turned off by something he heard in the Warriors’ initial presentation.

“They were telling him about how they were going to win championships even if he didn’t come there,” said a coach. “I don’t think they came right out and said he wasn’t going to win if he didn’t sign with them — that would be crazy — but I was told that’s how he kind of took it.”

Said another source, a call from Warriors exec Jerry West smoothed over any issues Durant may have had.

“I think that was important,” he said. “I think Kevin was interested in Golden State big-time as the playoffs went on, but if he had any doubts, I think hearing from someone of Jerry West’s stature was important. When Jerry talks, you listen. Some young guys may not get how big a deal Jerry West is, but Kevin is a bright guy and he’s into the history of the game. He knows what Jerry West is to basketball.

“I think that (call) made him feel more comfortable about leaving OKC and coming to a team that was already great.”
Quote:

The club might also have had the idea that concerns in that area were a big part of why Durant was seriously thinking about leaving the Thunder in the first place. One person close to Durant and Russell Westbrook said their relationship is “kind of complicated.”

Said another Western source, “Look, KD and Russ are friends. They get along great off the court. They’re good guys. But Kevin feels like no one can control Russell when he’s on the court — not even Russell. Everyone sees it. It’s no secret. I think that’s been hard on Kevin. Russ is one of the top players in the game, but things have to fit.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/c...nt_sweepstakes

Been rumored the way the talks were going, if Durrant staid with the Thunder and signed a 2 year deal with an option after 1 year, Cs likely would have nabbed him next offseason. Horford deal came way too late to actually swing his decision this offseason.

DaveWadding 07-05-2016 01:38 PM

The 2010s Thunder are now the equivalent of the 90s Orlando Magic.

Don't steal a city's team after they get the Number 1 draft pick the year before. That's the biggest bitch move of em all.

Trail Blazers fan, I do. Thought it was a great pick at the time.

Ruien 07-05-2016 08:07 PM

I think the Pau Gaso signing is being way under rated. Dude is still a beast and will be 5 times better than Duncan was last year.

Spurs shipped Boris Diaw to the Jazz today.

We go now to Gertner for his thoughts.

Frank Drebin 07-06-2016 10:30 PM

lol Bulls. If only this was 2013.

Enjoy the 5-8 seeds and the 19th pick in the draft for the next few years. NBA Hell.

Emperor Smeat 07-06-2016 10:39 PM

Seems like Pat Riley is the reason for today's decision and probably didn't like Wade dragging this on for too long.

Bulls don't officially have him yet since they need to clear more cap space at the moment.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-06-2016 11:36 PM

If they cared they wouldn't have let Tom Thibodeau go.

Frank Drebin 07-07-2016 12:32 AM

That was more of a complicated situation than people realize. Both sides were at fault. I'm on Thibs' side more but he didn't make things easy. Not an easy guy to get along with. There's a reason he wanted total control of a team.

No, but I remember when the Cavs were shitty, and instead of getting Kobe, or at least trying to make a play to trade for AI, they picked Vitaly Potapinko because they were doing that "we don't want any stars" nonsense. Took forever to pull out of that nosedive. And he wasn't even the big Eastern European we kept from that draft.

Pacers are stacked next season. I hope they play Paul George at SG. And bring Monta Ellis off the bench

C Myles Turner
PF Al Jefferson
SF Thadeus Young
SG Paul George
PG Jeff Teague

Thats a pretty damn stacked starting lineup. And the CJ Miles, Monta Ellis and Rodney Stuckey and Aaron Brooks coming off the bench.

Or they put Thad Young at PF and bring Jefferson off the bench and start Monta Ellis at the sg position. That's some real depth right there.

Knicks currently rumored to be trying to trade Carmello Anthony away with Cs and Clippers as teams they'd want to do a deal with. Tried to do a deal earlier with the Cavs but got flat out rejected when they asked for Love in return.

Doubt Ainge would be that dumb to take Melo and possibly derail what they've been building the past couple of years. Also he'd be a horrible fit for the team.

Not sure if Clippers would bite either especially if they have to give up something valuable in return.

Ruien 01-26-2017 08:12 PM

Clippers ended up being interested in a deal with the Knicks for Melo but want a 3rd team involved to make it happen. Possible the Cavs could get involved since the Knicks are also in talks with them.

Cs ended up rejected offers by the Knicks because they don't see Melo being valuable for them nor want to give up certain players needed to make the trade balanced.

Quote:

Sources told ESPN.com that the Knicks continue to discuss the prospect of sending Anthony to Los Angeles without taking back any of the Clippers' top three stars but have struggled to find a trade construction that works for both teams involving the other players on L.A.'s roster.

Almost nobody wants him either because of the money he's owed and lack of defense skills.

Cs didn't want him because he does nothing to fix their defensive problems while Cavs didn't want to downgrade going from Love to Melo and a bigger hit to their already high cap penalty. Clippers are only interested if they can find someone else to take the load off of whatever the Knicks get back to make a potential deal even since they already told the Knicks all their top players are non-negotiable.

ClockShot 01-29-2017 07:35 AM

Phil's fault he gave him the money in the first place.

To be honest, Phil's fault for a lot of things since he took over.

Ruien 01-29-2017 12:08 PM

Anyone in Phil's spot would have gave hin the money. Melo was/is the biggest star the Knicks had the possibility of getting.

Ruien 01-29-2017 12:09 PM

It's either that or they become the Nets.
