Yeah, the bills had 12 guys on the IR last year, they ended up fielding some REAL scrubs.

It looks like Aberdeen native Taylor Mehlhaff is going to get another shot at kicking with the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints aren't happy with the performance of veteran Martin Gramatica, who missed a potential game winning field late in Monday night's loss to the Vikings. So they are interested in re-signing Mehlhaff, the rookie they cut at the end of training camp after picking him in the 6th round of the NFL Draft last spring.

Taylor, who's been at the University of Wisconsin working out, will fly out to New Orleans Wednesday. There were some flight delays in Madison Tuesday night.

He's expected to get an offer from the Saints and he could very well be New Orleans starting kicker, when the Saints host the Raiders on Sunday.

I wanted us to keep him over Gramatica anyway.. He has pretty much the same accuracy but alot more power for longer FGs and kickoffs.. I also thought it was a wasted draft pick, to get him just for camp compitition..

The Saints couldn't do anything about an obvious facemask penalty the refs missed in Monday night's game against the Vikings -- that's not a challenge-able infraction. So they did the next best thing -- feature a picture of the blown call on the front page of their Web site. From ProFootballTalk.com:

With no mention of the fact that a penalty flag wasn’t thrown, the Saints have pasted on their official web site a photo of Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway grabbing the mask of Saints running back Reggie Bush.

To follow up, Los Angeles Times reporter Sam Farmer called the Saints for an explanation. From the L.A. Times:

I called the Saints about it this morning, and they said it was the highest-resolution shot they had of Bush, who returned two punts for touchdowns in the 30-27 loss.

After having the picture on the front page of their Web site, under the Multimedia tab, for most of the day, the Saints have finally taken it down and replaced it with a different image of Reggie Bush.

God, I love my team..

Kris P Lettus 10-08-2008 03:16 PM

Gramatica placed on IR, Mehlhaff is now the Saints starting kicker..

Evil Vito 10-08-2008 03:30 PM

I really wonder what the Giants are gonna do about their kicking situation. Carney has been perfect so far in FGs and XPs...but he's proven to be terrible at kickoffs. Meanwhile, Tynes seems ready to go and IIRC he at least could get some distance on his kickoffs.

Factor that in with the fact that David Tyree is eligible to come off the PUP list after next week...cutting one of the kickers would be the optimum way of getting him on the roster. They really don't even need him and so they could IR him for the rest of the year, but if the guy is healthy and ready to play the ethical thing to to do would be to cut him and let another team pick him up. But it would be depressing as hell to see the Super Bowl hero get cut. :(

Josh Brown

Big Fat Mike 10-08-2008 04:04 PM

Tynes wasn't exactly the biggest leg in the league before he got hurt.

SammyG 10-08-2008 06:06 PM

3rd Tynes the charm.

Kris P Lettus 10-08-2008 06:23 PM

NY Tynes

Shadow 10-08-2008 07:13 PM

Good on the Saints. Maybe now the league will start reviewing their officals a bit more tightly. Not that all of them are bad mind you. Just that some of them are calling shit that doesn't happen or just not calling stuff that they're supposed to call.

Gonzo 10-08-2008 07:53 PM

On that play (the facemask in the Saints game) was Hochuli in position to see and call the foul? If not, I don't see how you can blame him.

Big Fat Mike 10-08-2008 09:47 PM

The defender was hanging off of the facemask, and you could see Bush's head kind of jerk toward the defender. I don't care where you are on the field, you have to throw a flag on that play.

Coming from a Giants fan, btw.

I'm preying that Hochuli doesn't work any Giants games this year.

Gonzo 10-08-2008 09:54 PM

Hochuli really isn't a bad referee. Of course you can't argue with the call in the SD/Denver game but besides that the guy is one of the top crews. Can someone who watched the Saints game say with 100% certainty that Hochuli was in position himself to make the facemask call? It falls on one of the other officials in that case.

ClockShot 10-08-2008 10:19 PM

Tony Scheffler and Selvin Young out Sunday against the Jags.

Damn, gonna be a tough game with two of our best weapons out.

On the flip side, the fucker who shot Darrent Williams back in '07 got indicted.

No but I can blame the line judge who's supposed to also be able to throw flags on penilties.

Big Fat Mike 10-08-2008 10:24 PM

We're saying his entire crew is horrible. Granted, I wouldn't be able to make many right calls if I were in his position, but come on, you are a professional. Millions of people depend on you to make them happy in their otherwise dull, meaningless lives. Get it right for our sake, ok Ed?

Kris P Lettus 10-09-2008 11:34 AM

If you feel good barely beating a team that is missing 7 starters and got raped several times by the officiating crew, have at it..

Just remember, out horrible defense shut down the only superstar yall have, keeping AP to like 30 total yards..

Big Fat Mike 10-09-2008 11:35 AM

There was a story yesterday on espn saying that the Giants may be getting tired of Plaxico's "antics".
He is not in the same league with Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens in terms of selfishness.
I wanted to punch the television.

Lemme find a link to the story.

Adam Jones timeline

Since the Tennessee Titans drafted cornerback Adam Jones in 2005 he's been questioned, named or arrested in connection with at least eight off-field incidents:

• Strip club incident

Where: Atlanta

When: April 2005

What: Jones' name appeared on the police incident report after a fight broke out in a strip club. The female involved said she had no plans to pursue the case and it was dismissed.

• Hotel incident

Where: Nashville

When: June 2005

What: Security officials at Regal Maxwell House Hotel had trouble getting two of Jones' friends to clear their room after checkout time. Police arrived, smelled marijuana and found some on a tabletop. Jones was in the room, but one of his friends took full responsibility for the evidence.

• Nightclub arrest

Where: Nashville

When: July 2005

What:Jones was arrested on two counts of misdemeanor assault and a felony count of vandalism after a fight at a Nashville nightclub. Charges were dismissed less than a year later.

• Vehicle confiscation

Where: Nashville

When: April 2006

What: Metro Police said a vehicle registered to Jones was involved in a drug trafficking ring. "Pac Man" was embroidered on the leather seats of a 2004 Cadillac XLR which was confiscated from a friend of Jones. Jones later bought the car back at an auction.

• Shots fired

Where: Nashville

One more thing, Link about Adam Jones getting into a fight with a hotel security guard.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3633432

If theres any truth to this story, it's obvious that people can't change and the guy has to be DISCIPLINED SEVERELY. Like a perma-ban from the leauge would be nice. Scumbag,

Big Fat Mike 10-09-2008 11:46 AM

KRISPY YOU BEAT ME TO IT :foc:

Big Fat Mike 10-09-2008 11:52 AM

Seriously though, can we please have the guy bagging groceries or something? My theory is that if he doesn't have millions of dollars at his disposal, it will limit the amount of damage he can do.

Kris P Lettus 10-09-2008 11:59 AM

Not really..

I mean, you average street thug doesn't have all that money and they are still a common street thug..

Thug is a thug regardless of how much money they have.. If Pacman is too f'n stupid to stop biting the hand that feeds him, he is gonna be alot hungrier once that hand isn't there..

Big Fat Mike 10-09-2008 12:02 PM

Maybe, however the guy wont be going from strip club to strip club around the country without a huge bankroll. I agree though, he is a street thug that will always find a way to wreak havoc on society...I just think that he doesn't need to be on the same field as genuinely good guys, like your Drew Brees or my Eli Manning. The NFL has no room for people like him.

Unless you play your games in Irving, Tx.

Kris P Lettus 10-09-2008 12:03 PM

Or Cinncy, Ohio..

:shifty:

Big Fat Mike 10-09-2008 12:08 PM

Thank you, I almost forgot about that one. I mean I know lawrence taylor used to be a dirty player on the field, but there are plenty dirty players ON THE FIELD, even nowadays. They don't go dealing drugs and shooting up strip clubs and gas stations once they get home. Show up to work mean, hug a puppy or something when you punch out.

Kris P Lettus 10-09-2008 01:36 PM

Chris Mortensen

This guy has lost a lot of credibility in my opinion. The 24/7 reporting world we live in has caused this guy to jump all over everything and speculate where there aren't stories. Sure, the Giants may be a little sick of Plax, but if he keeps breaking the rules they will just keep fining him. The media is making a problem out of nothing here.

Tynes nearly pulled a Jay Feely in Green Bay. Somehow he made the hardest kick though. Feely was an awesome kicker too, he just got cut because of that one game. So stupid.

Romo is a good QB, but you simply can't deny the fact he makes some bonehead throws and critical errors in big games. The Cowboys are stacked and they have a great ability to bounce back, but they have been snake bitten in the playoffs. Until Romo can get to the playoffs and play without making one of these errors, that will be my knock on him.

He picked the Ravens over the Colts this morning because the Ravens have the #1 defense and and Colts aren't playing that well, bench Joseph Addai etc.

Well. He got part of the Addai prediction right. Wrong about the defense.
