I actually wasn't into wrestling at this time. I remember when I heard about it, I saw the dvd cover at the store. Not only was I thrilled with seeing Shawn Michaels on a dvd cover, but the concept of the match and the guys in it caught my attention.
I ended up watching it with a friend, and that's sorta when I got back into things.

On top of that: quality control. They just throw random guys in there now. It's one thing if you do it once in a while, to give a push. But the push and the epic nature of the gimmick both mean nothing when you just throw the match and the participants around like it's nothing.
With this, they put it over as something big. By the time they were having them at NYR's, it was awful.

Agreed. Raw's EC match this year looks awful on paper.

I think it should only ever be used when you have 6 main eventers who are all in the hunt for the title, and all have a legitimate claim at a title shot.
Then, and only then, the gimmick should be dusted off. And like you said, only once every couple years.

Using it once a year at No Way Out wouldn't even bother me if it was only one of them. Instead they have two on the same card. awful. That undermines what makes the whole gimmick work. Plus it causes them to stick everyone in the match.

If they must use it at No Way Out, I'd rather see there only be one. And have it be for who gets the Wrestlemania title shot for the brand that didn't win the rumble. Cross-brand even.
That way, you'd get some meaning to it, and the 6 spots would be more elite guys from both shows.

Yup. The fact that both titles are up for grabs in this years EC matches makes it rather pointless, since NWO PPV's are always shit.

I'm glad I don't pay for PPV's because it's pretty obvious that neither the WHC or the WWE title are gonna change hands.

They could use the oppurtunity to have Cena and Edge work matches against uppercard guys, for a nice rub. Or even better have them involved in non-title matches since usually the No Way Out title matches are throwaways anyways.

It wouldn't be bad for the card, or the stature of the show's titles, to have the three champions in a non-title exhibition match of some kind.
It'd make the ECW title seem equal for once a year. It wouldn't be that bad since it wouldn't have to main event the show on a card that had a star studded elimination chamber for a title shot, and two big storyline matches.

I was not a big HHH fan during this time.

HHH/HBM fued was damn good. Everyone complained, probably including me, that it hogged the spotlight but it was worthy. Pretty bright spot in a rough time.

I recently watched the RVD vs HBM title match from a couple weeks after this. Good stuff. And obviously the HBM Jericho stuff that came after this was gold.

HBM coming back was really awesome. It was something fans waited so long to see, and when he did there were a lot of dream matches. I wish he got a longer program with RVD, but the Jericho and HHH fueds were top notch. There were also a bunch of other top matches that happened.

Did Eddie and HBM ever happen? I don't think it did, which is a damn shame. Perhaps they were saving it.

Loved this time period. Then after all of this epic stuff with Kane and Taker, they started to elevate Jericho and Benoit to epic heights. All of the titles meant a shit load, roster was incredible.
