Looks like everything is leaning towards a new model being shown off Wensday but it won't have the 2nd stick and instead be a "XL" model with at least the bottom screen being about 1/3 bigger (1 extra inch).

The reason for no 2nd stick probably is related to the exclusive deal Nintendo signed with Capcom over the Circle Pad attachment. Capcom makes some profit for every attachment sold since they helped design it.

It appears there might a big split within Nintendo over the idea of releasing a redesigned 3DS any time soon with Miyamoto against the idea of a "Lite" or a new version being possible and the "boss" of the 3DS division, Hideki Konno, hinting an XL version like the DS could be possible for Smash Bros 3DS.

Miyamoto would rather have the focus be made on improving the 3D effects for games while Konno would favor bigger screens to help improve gameplay.

Just a new battery to be included to extend the 3DS life along with both screens being 90% bigger. In terms of price, it will be $200. The only catch is no AC adapter to be included but the current 3DS adapter is compatible.

AC adaptor is in the US box. Slightly bizzare it's not in the Japan console.

It's still a bad idea. Not havingit integrated means it will likely not be adopted widely and will put people off games which use it.

The no AC adapter (in Japan, I read Hasney's post) is kinda weird.

Some mixed news on how much of an improvement the new battery is with some places saying it ranges between an extra 1.5 to 3.5 hours while some are saying its only an extra 1.5 hours compared to the original battery. Almost the same type of battery used on Samsung's Galaxy tablets but a bit smaller in size for comparisons with other devices.

It basically depends on what is being played and the light/3d levels being used for the screen. Playing a DS game with the new battery provides an extra 1-2 hours on average.


Nintendo also revealed the release dates for the next batch of Virtual Console games for July with the promise of 2 new games every week.

Nintendo is offering an incentive for purchasing the digital version of New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS with at least Japan and UK/Europe's incentives revealed.

In Japan, buying the digital version of the game or Demon Training (new Brain Age game) will give you double the usual amount of Club Nintendo coins for the game and Donkey Kong on the 3DS Vurtual Console for free.

In the UK (and maybe Europe), you get an extra 20 Club Nintendo coins to go on top of the usual 40 coins 3DS games provide.

No news on if North America will have their own incentive goodies.

The promotion is also part of a larger test promotion for digital versions of games to include extra goodies over their retail counter-parts starting next month.

In case anyone has a 3DS and wants to get the XL version, Nintendo released a chart of everything that can and can't be transferred between systems. Some ambiguity on the part about videos and photos not being transferable from an SD card but some have stated it only deals with non-gaming files.
