Also, hate to say this about my own team but the Habs really lost their "personality" when Koivu left. Gionta is cool with me, just isn't Koivu at all.

weather vane 12-17-2010 03:16 AM

Subban
Lapierre
Gomez
Kostitsyn
Hal Skillz???

come on

El Fangel 12-17-2010 01:13 PM

Is it just me or has just about everyone been on the injured list so fat this year?

Kapoutman 12-17-2010 05:30 PM

I don't know, Spilchuk. Outside of Lapierre, Gomez and Kostitsyn, they are all likable guys in interviews and such. It's easy to identify with them.

Subban and Gill are fun. Price, Cammaleri, Plekanec, Gionta, Darche, Hamrlik... none of them ever act like dicks as far as I recall. Even Gomez is just an asshole because he gets paid 8.5 millions to do nothing, but I would be OK with him for 3 millions.

But yeah, fuck Lapierre. Never liked the guy.

Kapoutman 12-17-2010 05:32 PM

Gorges and Eller are pretty cool too.

El Fangel 12-18-2010 04:59 PM

Christ I hate Gomez more then I hated Kovalev. That's saying something, since I have no love for that 40 game player.

El Fangel 12-20-2010 09:29 PM

Holy fuck!!!!

Malkin with 5 points before the game is half over!!!!

YOUR Hero 12-21-2010 12:47 AM

The Donald Fehr to the NHLPA is a huge story. Watch out for lock out, relocation...

El Fangel 12-21-2010 12:56 AM

I cant take another lockout. I really cant.

After the last one it was 3 years before I started watching again.

Emperor Smeat 12-21-2010 01:00 AM

I doubt he will cause any huge problems since MLBPA is much stronger than hockey's and both the owners and players saw how devastating the last lockout was.

The salary cap and floor should offer some stability unlike MLB where players wanted a lot of money and owners could be as cheap as possible.

YOUR Hero 12-21-2010 01:09 AM

What do you mean he won't cause any huge problems? - He is a spokeman for the players. The players fell they left too much on the table last time and they want to be compensated. Bettman's a hard nosed guy that works for the owners. But I believe the players are going to rally around Fehr, while the Owners are already somewhat split over certain issues. The owners won't like to be 'pushed around'. I could see some ugly coming. I hope I'm wrong.

Emperor Smeat 12-21-2010 01:43 AM

Well in MLB, he was seen as one of the main reasons why steroid testing took too long and why it was almost impossible for a salary cap to be done. To be fair, Selig was as bad in reacting to steroids while also doing a lot of dumb decisions as well.

I think the main benefit NHL has is since the last stoppage was only a few years ago, its recent enough for the players and owners to notice how damaging it was to the league and would want to do a better compromise than almost doing nothing last time.

The players lost out on money from the current deal but they get a guarantee of a salary floor to combat any chance of the owners being as cheap as is the case with certain team owners in the MLB. They also know the public turned badly against them last time when they were expecting the owners to take most of the public anger.

El Fangel 12-21-2010 01:48 AM

I honestly think they will work something out, because thing about how bad it would be for hockey to have a 2nd lockout, 3rd if you count the shortened season back in the 90's.

Its giving hockey terrible publicity and thats the last thing it needs right now.

LoDownM 12-21-2010 02:17 AM

Hope there isn't another lockout so soon...

weather vane 12-21-2010 05:32 AM

There will not be a lock out. Not even close.

YOUR Hero 12-21-2010 10:36 AM

It goes both ways don't forget. Lock out or walk out (strike)

El Fangel 12-21-2010 11:39 AM

Wouldnt it be a skate out?

El Fangel 12-21-2010 11:39 AM

Or better known as a Kovalev.

Adder 12-21-2010 01:22 PM

Whispers that the Devils might trade Brodeur. Could you imagine him in a

new jersey.

El Fangel 12-21-2010 01:25 PM

Where are they going to trade him? To Toronto for Kadri, Schenn and Versteeg?

weather vane 12-21-2010 01:53 PM

lol ahahaha Adder

now that's good humor

LoDownM 12-21-2010 04:04 PM

lol. I don't see if happening, but if Gretzky can be traded, anyone can. Not impossible, but realllllly doubt it will happen.

Who the fuck throws waffles?

El Fangel 12-23-2010 05:08 AM

A fed up Toronto fan.

owenbrown 12-23-2010 05:10 AM

The Leafs must be getting worse and worse every season huh?

El Fangel 12-23-2010 05:17 AM

They wouldn't if they they understood the word "rebuild".

For example, you look at the Oilers who have, among others. Hall, Eberle, Paajarvi, Omark, Dubnyk and Petry.

An exceptional core of talented rookies that will ensure a degree of success in the future, something that T.O doesn't have and has not had for a very long time as they refuse to build through the draft because they wish to get to the playoffs. Something they have missed every year since 2005 and something they will miss this year as well.

Emperor Smeat 12-23-2010 06:57 PM

I don't blame the fans since they got overly excited and arrogant when the Leafs had a very strong start to the season which had not occurred in recent years and then saw the season dead a month later when the team plummeted.

weather vane 12-23-2010 07:42 PM

I toldaso

When you look back, what was so strong? 4 wins in their first 5 games followed by an OT loss?
It wasn't like it was ever a huge streak, even for a starving fan base.

Adder 12-23-2010 08:47 PM

PS

Devils fired MacLean today.

It was more from perception since 8 points out of 10 and then 9 out of 12 in the 1st 5-6 games made the fans and media believe the team had a strong start when the Leafs actually only managed to not screw up the start of a season.

A lot of people start to suddenly think and believe they are Stanley Cup contenders when in reality the Leafs didn't actually do anything nor show their potential weakness.

Fast forward about a month later and now everyone is disappointed and angry since the Leafs went back to playing the same way they played last year.

Ya whatever. Pretty good game. Caps shouldn't have even been able to tie it.

Corndad 12-24-2010 01:19 AM

That was a hell of a game. Can't wait for Classic.

El Fangel 12-24-2010 01:25 AM

Oh joy Sid vs Ovy and more shutdown defense limiting their head to head scoring rivalry, I'm all giddy about that.

The nerve of some fans, getting excited when their team has a good start. Bastards.

When they start a season out, 4-0 after being 29th in the league the year prior and talk about Cup Contention because of it, yeah ill make fun of them.

Blitz, your a smart guy, so tell me something. Why in your opinion are the Leafs so against arebuild? In 5 years they could be where Los Angeles is now, a team that bottomed out, stocked picks and has an exceptional core of young players. In 5-7 years, they could be another Washington or Pittsburgh, because you and I both know you don't get players like Crosby, Ovy, Backstrom, Green, Semin, Malkin, Staal or Fleury from FA signings very often.

In this day and age of salary cap restrictions, you build through the draft and the underrated tool that is an ELC because having a huge budget means nothing anymore.
