For those that enjoy watching and/or reading up on old wrestling, Voices of Wrestling recently had an article on the early days of US wrestling going as far back as the 1890s and one of its first mega stars.

Back in the day when wrestling was mostly seen as a real sport although still had its fair share of sports media saying wrestling was fake.

Chris Jericho might be close although a lot of his dumbness revolves around how he runs his podcast series and him being very open to inviting conspiracy theorists as guests for podcast clicks and views.

If you count being an active participant and not just someone who sprouts dumb stuff, then Drake Wuertz is ahead of Flip Gordon by a mile based on some of the serious stuff that's come out against him in recent months. Supposedly he's been a main spreader of conspiracy related stuff that's been going on recently within WWE. Managed to get others to join in either via donating to bogus charity groups or repeating conspiracy style messaging online.

Austin Aries has to rank up there.

The guy might legit be the dumbest wrestler in today's wrestling scene. Even others who work with him have recently called him out for being the dumbest person they know when it comes to his views on the coronavirus and other conspiracy related stuff.

Yeah, Flip is the obvious one. I've also noticed some troubling posts made by NXT performers such as Raquel Gonzalez. I wonder if it had any bearing on the recent outbreaks at the performance center.

Agreed. IIRC he randomly talked about fluoride making kids autistic during a podcast. Also, Bo Dallas is a conspiracy nut. Unsure about his stance on the pandemic.

Emperor Smeat 10-18-2020 03:59 AM

Bo is a conspiracy wacko?

Was this recent since I don't remember any dirt against him said around the net.

Coming from the military like Flip was (he was Army Guard, I was active Air Force) I don't blame him for believing in a lot of stuff....when you work for the Govt. there are things you are led to believe that in the end were B.S. from the start.

I guess it's all on how far down the rabbit hole you fall.

According to PWI, a very sad incident happened in Mexico last night.

A young wrestler suffered a fatal heart attack during the middle of a match.

Unlike what happened with Silver King's passing in the United Kingdom, match was quickly stopped and medical officials rushed in immediately to try to save him.

Aereo collapsed after taking two chops to the chest and waiting for his opponent to rebound off the ropes for their next spot, falling to the mat. Within a minute of him collapsing, he was being strapped to a back board by EMTs and rushed to the back for medical attention. MasLucha.com reported that he was treated by the Athletic Commission Doctor and rushed to the local hospital, but sadly passed away.

Aereo had been wrestling since 2010, working in Mexico for smaller promotions including IWRG and Mexa, but did work for AAA in 2019 as well as earlier this year.

Edit: PWInsider was a bit off on his age since Lucha Blog reported that he was actually 23 years old.

"Concerned" about people who have to work with Strowman.

Emperor Smeat 10-19-2020 12:33 AM

Seems WWE recently ran into some legal issues regarding several trademarks for talent names they've been filing in batches these past few months.

At least 3 wrestlers haven't given their written consent needed for WWE to own their names while in the company due to their ring names being their real names.

Interesting, another denied trademark was for "Justus" which isn't the current name of anyone in WWE and has been rumored for a while to be related to Retribution. That was originally rumored to be the name of the group before they were officially revealed as Retribution.

Also WWE has been having trouble trademarking Mia Yim's name not because its her real name but due to her having past usage of the name in the indies meaning WWE needs her consent to own it while she works for them. Seeing as she's one of the people who is affected the most by WWE's recent third party services ban, makes sense why she isn't too happy to give them permission for ownership of her name.

Throughout the pandemic/lockdown, my girlfriend and I have dug out all our old DVD's and been watching through them all. This includes all my wrestling ones which she loves watching and is a huge fan!

Currently just watched The Great American Bash 2004 and Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story, and two random notes/observations:

Damn, Chris Benoit was so fucking good. If you can try to appreciate his work as a wrestler prior to how his life ended, he really was one of the absolute best. From his solo DVD and all the ones we watched prior, the guy was so crisp in the ring. He had an absolute intensity and believeability that nobody really has anymore. Makes me appreciate that era of technical wrestling around the turn of the century before all the flippy and comedy stuff got too out-of-hand. Nowadays it's all so choreographed and gymnastics that it takes a lot of the realism out of the competition.

Also, I always kinda wished WWE would release a DVD or something on the Network or whatever, focusing on all the guys/matches that don't warrent DVD's of their own. So many mid-card matches and stand-out performers that should be highlighted. Guys like Christian, Booker T, Jamie Knoble, Tyson Kidd, Dolph Ziggler, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Dean Malenko etc. Perhaps matches from Raw, Smackdown, WWECW, NXT, Main Event etc that weren't necessarily main event matches or significant in any way, other than being great matches that seemed to have been kinda forgotten about.

The fact that some people thought Benoit was boring or "vanilla" is a testament to how many great personalities were in WWE at the time.

Benoit would be the equivalent of Steve fucking Austin in today's enviornment.

Yeah, I remember from the WWE Jake DVD that his early life was really fucked up, but they only glossed over it.

David Bixenspan recently revealed that he helped work on the upcoming third season of Dark side of the Ring.

Now that everything's officially announced, I can finally reveal that [one of] the secret project[s] I've alluded to for months is working as a researcher on @DarkSideOfRing season 3! Considering how great he is at uncovering the shady and dark aspect of wrestling, a bunch of these upcoming episodes very likely will be a lot more juicer in dark content than usual for the series.

Supposedly the main issues people had with Season 2 revolved around Bruce Prichard having too much influence on its direction and the producers leaning a bit too heavy on his style of storytelling for topics.

I dont think there's enough quality stories to be told thst they could do 14 episodes and like half of them be boring.

There's so much shady shit that even posters like us who are in the "Smark" crowd have no idea about.

They GOTTA do one on Chris Adams.

Bad News Gertner 10-20-2020 01:55 PM

You could have :

1. Pillman
2. Collision in Korea
3. Grizzly Smith and his kids
4. Nick Gage
5. Chris Adams
6. Rob Black and the XWF
7. Steroid Trial
8. Ring Boys Scandal
9. Eddie Guererro
10. Sunny
11. Sabu
12. 2004 Diva Search (Just to have a light topic)
13. Scott Hall
14. Rikidozan

That would be an amazing season
