Oh... sorry.

James Steele 03-11-2014 11:24 PM

Daniel Bryan's "knee of death" should be called "DB's Knees"

Afterlife 03-13-2014 02:24 PM

This is a highly entertaining episode. Can we fire Narc?

Emperor Smeat 03-13-2014 02:34 PM

Aksana's knee to be named as the "Lithuanian face buster"

loopydate 03-13-2014 04:42 PM

Or, alternatively, "Socket To Me."

XL 03-13-2014 06:33 PM

Bryan's knee should be called the "Independence Express". He should do the corner taunt that Godfather used to do before hitting the Ho Train. In fact, when he turns heel he can call it the "No Train".

Innovator 03-13-2014 06:40 PM

Roman Reigns's Spear = Roman Out - everyone who gets hit by it comes out as a Romansexual (gay solely for Roman Reigns).

Big E's Big Ending = World's Saddest Slam

XL 03-13-2014 06:46 PM

I was gonna pm Jabba to see if he there was a space spare on this weeks podcast but ended up going to bed instead.

My input would have been:

During the description of Alpha Female as "mannish" I'd have said "No, that's TJ Perkins".

During the talk of Bryan/HHH's Raw segment is have suggested how great it would have been if HHH were to come out and say "Bryan strong-armed me into agreeing to the match and the stipulation, but here's the thing...I LIED!!".

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-13-2014 08:24 PM

We can always make room for XL.

Lock Jaw 03-13-2014 08:49 PM

I listened to most of this podcast. Interesting to hear the TNA recaps, because I fell behind a few weeks and also did not watch Lockdown. May have to check out some of the Lockdown matches. I probably won't though.

Also, I'm pretty sure somewhere that Daniel Bryan said his Running Knee was called the "Knee Plus".

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-13-2014 08:55 PM

All the matches are probably worth checking out, but if you have to pick just one I'd suggest Storm vs Gunner.

Lock Jaw 03-13-2014 08:59 PM

Last time I watched they had just gotten back together and had hugged it all out and stuff....

Seems every time I fall behind in TNA there are at least two heel/face turns in the time span.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-13-2014 09:05 PM

They used to do way too much of that, but this particular storyline made a lot of sense.

loopydate 03-16-2014 11:02 AM

Had a TLP dream last night. Somehow in this dream, my hotel exists in both Nashville and Chicago, so I had Narc at the front desk coming by to check Afterlife in for their WrestleMania extravaganza. At the same time, though, they were in different enough places to where I had to tell Narc how bad I felt that I wouldn't be joining everyone there because it was too far away. I'm sure more stuff happened, but I mostly remember thinking after I woke up thinking that the person in my dream was really not Narc. Looked completely different, sounded completely different, but in that world he was Narc.

Nark Order 03-16-2014 11:41 AM

I had a dream once where Anybody Thrilla saved my mother from an armed assailant and then took her out for pancakes.

Nark Order 03-16-2014 11:45 AM

Also. Tuned in as a fan this week. Solid fucking program. Except for Afterlife. He's awful.

:)

J/k. Great show. Especially the Afterlife TNA recaps. And I knew there was going to be complaining about the cage door but I say it was justified this time. It does looks rather silly. It is just something in wrestling that we've accepted by now that is kind of ridiculous.

James Steele 03-16-2014 03:37 PM

I don't get all the "NerdRage™" against cage doors. Why wouldn't you have a door on a cage? Is it dumb for prisons to have doors? Of course not! Plus, its a great way for a chickenshit heel to win or have that scene of two men so beat up that all he can do is use all his might to try and crawl through the door to survive.

XL 03-16-2014 03:45 PM

The whole idea of escaping a cage match is counterintuitive to the original pont of the match; to provide a ground on which two hated rivals can meet without interference/without the heel high-tailing/being counted out/were the pair have to fight to a finish. An escape cage match rewards you for walking away from a fight. The door just makes it worse.

Innovator 03-16-2014 06:07 PM

Only time I saw a triumphant cage door exit was when Bruno beat the shit out of Stan Hansen, left him bleeding and tied up in the ropes knocked out, then walked out of the cage

James Steele 03-16-2014 08:20 PM

Winning via escape is a wonderful way to have a chickenshit heel win the blowoff match of a feud. With the business being so over-exposed in the past 30 years, cage matches are no longer just about "nobody in/nobody out - time to fight".

James Steele 03-16-2014 08:20 PM

For example, JBL's win at No Way Out 2005 was fucking brilliant. He didn't win via the door, but he still won in an incredibly chickenshit way that gave him even more heat, made Big Show look even stronger, and ended their short feud. What is a more chickenshit heelish thing than finding a way to screw the fans and the opponent out of their "AHA! GOTCHA NOW, MOTHER FUCKER!" moment that the cage match represents. It is the natural evolution of the gimmick match. Cage matches haven't been the be-all end-all gimmick in years, so it makes sense to give it more versatility. HIAC and the Chamber have the role of being the be-all end-all this fight is going to end in a fair and bloody war gimmick match.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-16-2014 08:25 PM

Suspension of disbelief. It's hard when you know somebody could win whenever they want by walking out of the ring.

...not really. They do those spots where the heel goes right for the escape and gets caught all the time. If you overthink it and basically refuse to let yourself enjoy the match because you are missing the forest for the trees, then yes I see your point. It is not like the other guy is just going to let him walk out of the fucking door. Then, you also get into all the psychological parts of guys wanting to dish out more punishment or having too much pride to win by escape. It all adds elements to the matches and the characters in said matches.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-16-2014 08:30 PM

You're wrong, James.

Stepping out of the ring requires only a tiny amount of space, and the referees generally open the doors rather rapidly (particularly in WWE).

James Steele 03-16-2014 08:31 PM

What am I wrong about exactly?

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-16-2014 08:35 PM

Your stance on the effect of cage doors on matches.

Afterlife 03-16-2014 10:15 PM

Cage doors being an option for victory is just about as anti-climactic as it gets. Escape is bad enough, because, again, it misses the point of the match in the first place, but even then it's not about one guy defeating another; it's another form of not getting a decisive finish, and something as big as a cage match should be final.

James Steele 03-17-2014 12:51 AM

...which is why the door finish isn't used very often. Standard cage matches aren't all that big of a deal anymore and it isn't because it has a damn door.

Nark Order 03-17-2014 01:24 AM

James Steele. You are wrong. It is the worst. Also, making a dramatic crawl towards the door is always ridiculous. You could literally just walk out the door with relative ease or baseball slide out. We've all walked through doors. It isn't a difficult thing to do. Even if somebody was trying to stop me, I'm certain I could slip out an open door.

Innovator 03-17-2014 07:56 AM

Cage matches aren't a big deal because they're now a poor man's hell in a cell in WWE, and in TNA an entire PPV is dedicated to cage matches, which dilutes the impact it can have.

Nowhere Man 03-17-2014 08:20 AM

I'm going to agree with Narc, coming down against cage-doors on the grounds that it always, always looks retarded. It's the same problem that a lot of ladder matches have, where suddenly the guy starts moving in molasses towards his goal, only to be rendered completely immobile by someone grabbing his ankle. At least with ladder matches, it makes sense that the guy would stop climbing when the other guy grabs him-- that's a precarious position and you don't want to fall off. But when a guy is halfway out the door and is suddenly nailed in place because someone's pulling at him (most of the time with zero leverage), it just screams at the audience "WE ARE DOING THIS TO PAD FOR TIME."

Innovator 03-17-2014 09:21 AM

Bobby Roode is a great example. He forgets to crawl slowly, then has to pretend to get his hands stuck to the floor and not move for a minute

James Steele 03-18-2014 09:15 AM

Then he needs to quit being a fucking schmuck and do it right.

Question Of The Week:

Give us your reactions to the following Mania main event results:

Orton Retains

Fit the man with the finest armor you got b/c the next night at RAW will be one dungeon unfit for just his underwear alone. They better have his will done and RV patched up with a forcefield of alien level science. Some will call the WWE brave, but I'm not sure they are that brave.

Batista Wins

see Orton reaction, plus lol Scorpion King

Bryan Wins

Anxiety will build as to how they are going to sabotage his win, I know Summerslam is behind us, but with the possibility of having Punk coming out and getting involved, it could lead to some more unwarranted crap.

Until the show ends I will be skeptical if he wins.

Triple H Wins

I don't see this one happening, as good a heel as he is I don't think it'll be best for business to have HHH hoisting the titles up after all this building of Bryan.

If he does win I'll crank Motorhead and dance in the streets, but as a fan of him we should just leave his title days in the past where they belong. Love him or hate him, he is doing good things down at NXT.

Heisenberg 03-19-2014 03:35 PM

The final segment of RAW when the fake cops came out, I was trying to get a Rodney King chant going.

I had a lot of other ideas for a sign, but they made me trash my blanks as well. I had a TLP sign, Tatanka sign and Tazz Dan sign. I feel awful I wasn't able to get those out, but the TPWW one seemed to be a powerful combo sign to show my respects.

Friday house show notes too:

Bad New Barrett wrestled and Layla returned, I got to see a 3 on 3 with The Shield(in Face mode) vs The Wyatt Family and it was TV quality stuff.

Emperor Smeat 03-19-2014 04:00 PM

Orton Retains, Batista Wins, Triple H Wins:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_r4uUWK5joz...eaming.gif.png

Out of the three probably would be the most upset if Batista won considering his run so far has been a big waste even with the sudden heel turn. Probably Orton the least only if something big happened pointing to a refresh in his direction as champion.

Bryan Wins:

el bobbo 03-19-2014 06:39 PM

Orton Retains

Same old shit.

Batista Wins

Crowd Riots.

Bryan Wins

Daniel Bryan and we, the fans, get our WM moment.

Triple H Wins

Crowd riots and we get a really intriguing set up for the summer wrestling season.

James Steele 03-19-2014 07:13 PM

Orton Retains - Cancel WWE Network
Batista Wins - Cancel WWE Network
Bryan Wins - Warm fuzzy feeling that I haven't felt since WrestleMania XX's conclusion
Triple H Wins - Violent and Involuntary Ejaculation

Innovator 03-24-2014 12:59 PM

Orton Retains

Question Of The Week:

What would you have done with Scooby Doo on Raw?

Bonus Question: Give us ideas for fun stuff to do in Chicago.

Innovator 03-25-2014 10:17 PM

Go to the Weiner Circle. Have Afterlife ask for a Chocolate Shake.

James Steele 03-25-2014 11:12 PM

Scooby-Doo and Torito chase each other around the arena in multiple skits throughout the night.

Bonus: Find CM Punk's house, break-in, and host TLP LIVE! from CM Punk's estate.

Bad News Gertner 03-26-2014 06:44 AM

Take a piss on TNA

Innovator 03-26-2014 09:54 AM

Someone stole all of the food from WWE catering. Scooby Doo enters the arena with his new friend Rob Van Dam. Kane asks them to investigate the mystery of the catering bandit. Scooby and his friend RVD investigate throughout the night, Santino tries to tag along with his Sherlock hat but gets kicked in the face by RVD. Scooby gets hot on the trail thanks to a trail of oil from the food, leading him straight into RVD's locker room! RVD says that they both ate all of the food then totally spaced, and would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for Scooby's crime solving ability.

-If anyone is a baseball fan, go to Wrigley, the Cubs are home that week.

For the record, I don't agree that RyBack has "peaked" or that his career is over. I hardly consider the circle jerkers' desire to latch onto a catchphrase in the Wrestling Forum as the measure of what is or is not going to happen in the worst-written tv series since Team Knight Rider.

RyBack is not The Great Khali. I can't even believe that comparison was made. Nobody is The Great Khali.

Swiss Ultimate 03-27-2014 02:32 PM

The Great Khali is not the Great Khali.

Savio 03-27-2014 08:18 PM

I disagree AL, and you have to admit right after his rematch he did steadily fall down the card.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 03-27-2014 11:16 PM

That's not really disagreeing.

Emperor Smeat 03-28-2014 01:49 PM

Scooby Doo:
Him, Santino, and a few other wrestlers join together to solve the mystery of the missing Andre the Giant Battle Royale statue. Have a few skits where they try not to fall into any traps and get clues with the biggest being the suspect is wearing a mask. Final segment is them noticing Sin Cara walking to his car with the statue and nab him before he leaves. He gets unmasked and it turns out to be JTG who states he would have gotten away with it if people would have still forgotten he's employed.

Podcast itself:
In regards to the talk about if NXT is doing anything during Mania, the WWE is supposedly taping a few shows next weekend in New Orleans. Main reason is because the WWE is targeting those promotions that use Mania weekend as both their showcase event and to fund the rest of the year.

WWE is trying for next year's Mania to have all non-WWE promotion shows banned so only Mania occurs on that weekend.

Innovator 03-28-2014 02:49 PM

Honestly I'm surprised you guys kept Smackdown at a full review for this long. You can trim it down to 10-15 minutes if you just talk about what matches were good and if there were any talking points on the show. This way you can let RAW breathe more.

Savio 03-28-2014 05:42 PM

Sorry I should have stated:

I disagree AL, I think Ryback has peaked. You have to admit right after his rematch he did steadily fall down the card.

Afterlife 03-28-2014 11:46 PM

Because he's not in the title picture, his career has peaked? He's currently been placed into a filler tag team so he has a way to stay in our minds without being a Sandow/Ziggler-style flameout, and that's because they've given up on him? This is ridiculous thinking.

slik 03-29-2014 12:06 AM

Anyone who thinks Ryback's career has an upwards swing left in it is loco.

#1-norm-fan 03-29-2014 12:39 AM

That's ridiculous thinking. WWE clearly put him in a filler tag team with Curtis Axel where he could job to Los Matadores on multiple occasions in order to keep him relevant before his next main event push where he'll be bigger than ever.

Ridiculous thinking.

Savio 03-29-2014 04:19 PM

I like afterlife but he is very stubborn.

Lock Jaw 03-29-2014 04:20 PM

During the match. I would have had other famous Hanna-Barbera characters to come out and surround the ring... Then they would have got on the apron, entered the ring and beat down both men. Especially Sin Cara. Then they would have torn up the ring, etc...

Would have led to a lengthy feud against them for Sin Cara, and elevated him to that next level.

Swiss Ultimate 03-29-2014 05:43 PM

This is how it goes down.
