yeah i think markarth is a no-go zone for me now despite the fact i won it for the stormcloaks :'(

El Fangel 01-18-2012 04:58 PM

I was supposed to put the knowledge from the scroll into a lexicon, but the machine gave me the scroll before the lexicon had the knowledge infused. Now I have the ████ing scroll and no way to finish the quest. My love for this game just took a nosedive as now I have to stare at the quest that I can't complete forever. I hope its not essential.

The Rogerer 01-18-2012 05:27 PM

You'll be fine. It's easily missed but you don't need it. I think you should still be able to go back to the machine and pick it up anyway.

I finished the main quest because I wanted to wrap up the game and leave it open for another play in the future with a lot to explore. It didn't go well.

One of the final fights resulted in the enemy becoming invulnerable and I had to restart the console. Good thing I looked it up.

Then in the lead up to the final quest I lost 30 minutes of saves, and it was possibly the slowest 30 minutes of the game. I think this is because there were Live connection issues and then I signed into live while playing the game, I can't think of any other reason.

The main quest is a bit underwhelming, and I understand what people mean by saying Bethesda are poor writers compared to Obsidian in New Vegas. The best parts about the game are the exploration and how well they've realised a world. People and their stories are stupider than they should be.

El Fangel 01-18-2012 05:45 PM

Thanks. Honestly was planning on selling the game if I couldn't finish it. I would have lost all desire to play and restarting would have been out of the question in fear this would just happen again.

Disappointed really, first game I enjoyed in a while now I have little motivation to play incase I █████ myself out of finishing the game.

Tommy Gunn 01-19-2012 07:21 AM

Bought this a month ago, but gonna wait for all the quests to get patched before I play it. I know if it messed up halfway through I'd be too disappointed to restart from scratch.

The Rogerer 01-19-2012 08:15 AM

It's as fixed as it's going to get now.

El Fangel 01-19-2012 08:22 AM

Somehow someway I can infuse the knowledge without the scroll...

El Fangel 01-22-2012 09:28 AM

I have no idea who posted it, but someone said that they finished the main story and they weren't even sure until they checked. So for anyone who has finished the main story, please check what I ask in the spoiler tags and let me know.

SPOILER: show
I just killed Anduin in Savngarde, is that really it. If so that was rather unwhelming...

Destor 01-22-2012 09:30 AM

the is the climax to the dragon quest line yes

Destor 01-22-2012 09:31 AM

the end to the civil war quest is MUCH more underwhelming however

El Fangel 01-22-2012 09:42 AM

If it wasn't for the ability to explore the world until your hearts content and take joy in that I would be sort of pissed off right now. I just sat there afterwards and was like "Was that it? Really?"

I think I will continue to explore and do the quests as that is really what made this game fun but the main story is very poor.

Destor 01-22-2012 09:47 AM

im juts dissapointed at the reward. the shout is cool...but i dunno...let me make a weapon out of alduin bones or something...

Destor 01-22-2012 09:48 AM

the thieves/assasin/and mages guilds final reward are pretty tops tho. other than that all guild/factions/story line completion awards are junk.

Destor 01-22-2012 09:49 AM

as a morriwind fan tho, skyrim REALLY let me down.

D Mac 01-22-2012 11:48 AM

Still game of the year.

Crimson 01-22-2012 01:19 PM

Hopefully in the next one they improve the storylines then

Destor 01-22-2012 01:20 PM

and the questing. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much fetch questing.

It's been recommended that you don't save the main quest for later in the game since the AI level system is different from Oblivion. I guess they assumed most people would go straight through the main quest first because of this. According to the guide, the suggested level for this final quest (on default difficulty)is 24, though anywhere in the 20-25 area is perfectly fine. Any level past 34 will however lead to disappointment.

Granted, this may have nothing to do with your disdain for it, but this is the common denominator of disappointment so there ya have it

El Fangel 01-25-2012 04:32 AM

I was level 38 with difficulty maxed and it felt like there was no climax at all.

James Diesel 01-25-2012 05:49 AM

Yea well the three AI's that help you do a bit more than they should and it still is a pretty easy fight for a higher character.

I was actually more impressed by the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild questlines. College questline is close behind, but Civil War line was too redundant for me. I expected more considering you learn more about the war than you do of Alduin in the beginning, but alas, just "go here, pillage, return", and so on.

Verbose Minch 01-25-2012 01:27 PM

I wasn't a fan of the Thieves Guild. You can fuck up every mission and they'll still say you're best suited to lead it.

Kris P Lettus 01-26-2012 09:08 PM

Think I'm gonna restart this weekend..

Did you finish it with the character you have?

Kris P Lettus 01-27-2012 01:35 PM

No but I'm up to level 30ish and have done little to none of the main storyline..

I was the same, I think I was Level 32-33 before I even went to Solitude to continue the quest you get from Deandra or whatever the fuck her name is.

D Mac 01-27-2012 03:31 PM

I'm level 42 and have only found that Blades temple.

Crimson 01-27-2012 08:17 PM

So the main story is to either join the Stormcloakes or Imperial correct? And then go fromm there?

If so which one is the more fun

Destor 01-27-2012 08:19 PM

there are two main quest, the civil war and the dragon quest lines. as far as the civil war goes they are identical. so whatever side you agree with.

James Diesel 01-27-2012 08:30 PM

I'm not sure as to which one is more fun but the morally correct one, IMO, is to join the Imperial Legion. It's kinda like choosing between the NCR and Caesar's Legion from New Vegas

neither is morally "correct." its subjective.

James Diesel 01-27-2012 11:08 PM

Potato, Tomato

The Mask 01-30-2012 05:49 PM

i think the stormcloaks is more morally right because the imperials are trying to suppress religious freedom innit. stormcloaks are still a bunch of xenophobes though.

El Capitano Gatisto 01-30-2012 05:50 PM

The Stormcloaks are basically like the IRA so they are morally right.

the counter argument is that the impereals know that they need time to mount a strategy against the Aldmeri; so a few years of playing by the rules and hiding the worship of Talos is better than facing total extinction.

Destor 01-30-2012 05:53 PM

then on top of that Ulfric being in the pocket of the Altmer futher tarnishes them. both sides have an argument, thats what made it good.

DAMN iNATOR 01-30-2012 05:53 PM

LOL. Anyway, just wanted to say I did notice and have taken both the one-handed and two-handed perk that allows for a 25% chance of any finishing power hit on a non-beast of decapitating them. So decapitations are technically in, albeit in a very roundabout way.

Crimson 01-31-2012 01:46 PM

Speaking of decapitations..I didnt know you could do that!

Nah, I would wait til you're at least level 20.

I was at level 40 by the time I did the last main quest, and it was a breeze.

Also, is there a purpose to all those masks you get from the dragon priests? I lost the first two I got.
