Didn't catch the ASG (had other commitments) but damn that sucks if they actually didn't do anything for Gwynn. Pretty huge oversight.

Droford 07-18-2014 04:14 PM

I hate long west coast road trips

road doggy dogg 07-18-2014 04:17 PM

I hate the All Star break.. so happy baseball is back on tonight

ClockShot 07-18-2014 05:27 PM

Braves cut Dan Uggla loose.

CC Sabathia opts for season ending knee surgery.

screech 07-18-2014 05:51 PM

What was the story with Uggla? He just mad over losing the starting job?

Damian Rey 07-18-2014 06:09 PM

No, he just sucked, so the Braves made the choice on one else would make; the right choice.

Bad News Gertner 07-18-2014 08:13 PM

Jays are gonna pick up Uggla. Just watch.

Frank Drebin 07-18-2014 08:55 PM

After the Mariners sold the farm for a pitcher once before you think they'd, ya know, not try to do it again.

Evil Vito 07-18-2014 10:36 PM

The Astros fail to sign #1 overall pick Brady Aiken, first time in 31 years the top pick went unsigned.

Aiken and the union are exploring legal action against the Astros as they offered him $6.5 million only to rescind it and offer $5 million.

Droford 07-19-2014 12:03 AM

According to what I read, a red flag came up on his elbow. And that was the cause why the Astros knocked off some bucks from the deal. The debate if that is probable cause to do that is for MLB/Astros and the Union to fight over.

ClockShot 07-19-2014 04:22 PM

In case you missed it.

Angels acquire Huston Street and Trevor Gott from the Padres for Taylor Lindsey (Angels top prospect), R.J Alvarez, Jose Rondon, and Elliot Morris.

So they grab Grilli from the Pirates and now Street. Either DiPoto is really on the hot seat and is making moves to keep his job, or there's something bigger in play. Giving 2 of your tops guys is a steep price to get another closer.

C.C. Sabathia expects a lot of gravy for his biscuits, to be made from his surgery, because he's fat.

Nicky Fives 07-21-2014 12:45 PM

I would not be surprised if Sabathia's career was over... not the same pitcher since losing the weight.

Damian Rey 07-21-2014 02:32 PM

Think age is why CC's breaking down.

ClockShot 07-22-2014 01:23 PM

Yankees acquire Chase Headley and $1 mil. from the Padres for Yangervis Solarte and Rafael De Paula.

Hmph. I would have preferred pitching arms. But we needed a 3B, too.

Evil Vito 07-22-2014 01:47 PM

Based on their production this year Solarte for Headley seems like a lateral if not a slight decrease. But Headley was really good 2 years ago and Solarte's been a career minor leaguer up until this year so it's not a bad experiment.

road doggy dogg 07-24-2014 10:07 AM

The Headley experiment got off to a good start, we'll see if he keeps it up. Don't think the Yanks have a shot this year though unless both Baltimore and Toronto really shit the bed (entirely possible)

road doggy dogg 07-24-2014 10:10 AM

Nice to see the Detroit Rangers pick up Soria as well. DD has already given Nathan the dreaded "public vote of confidence" after the move, because that always works well.

screech 07-24-2014 11:04 AM

Phillies "discussing" releasing Ryan Howard after this year and eating his $60 million. I know he's been pretty bad lately, but I've never been a fan of the whole "eating the contract" thing. He's got basically a year and a half left on the deal. Might as well ride him out and platoon at 1B in the meantime.

ClockShot 07-24-2014 09:19 PM

Yankees acquire Chris Capuano from the Rockies in exchange for cash.

Don't know how hard I should laugh.

Bad News Gertner 07-24-2014 09:42 PM

Holy mother of fuck has Marcus Stroman evet been amazing.

Nicky Fives 07-25-2014 10:56 AM

He's had one really bad start and a handful of sub-par ones, but he's ben VERY consistent... not much more you can ask for from a kid.....

Evil Vito 07-26-2014 12:57 PM

Trade just went down:

Red Sox get: P Heath Hembree, P Edwin Escobar
Giants get: P Jake Peavy

Damian Rey 07-26-2014 01:25 PM

Being a huge Jake Peavy mark, my heart has been ripped to shreds knowing I'll have to endure him pitching against the Padres in a Giants uni.

RP 07-26-2014 03:34 PM

What a year Rizzo is having. Really promising future this guy has. And apparently Soler and Baez are close to being called up. Oh and Kris Bryant might be a top 10 player in baseball and he's not even in the big league yet.

Damian Rey 07-26-2014 03:51 PM

I love Rizzo. When Cash leaves the Padres in 2 years, that trade well look even worse. Any of our resident Cub fans think Castro may get moved for pitching with so much middle infield depth on the brink?

ClockShot 07-26-2014 04:21 PM

Hall of Fame board knocked down the eligibility years from 15 to 10. McGwire is the big name on the list who got 2 more years to go now.

Players who are in the 11-15 range now (Don Mattingly coming up on his 15th and final year, Alan Trammel (14th), and Lee Smith (13th) are all still eligible.

Interesting move.

Bad News Gertner 07-26-2014 04:45 PM

Lol how is Jeff Francis on a major league roster?

This definitely fucks shit up for McGwire and any other steroid era players. They needed the 15 years hoping all the "old school" voters would have stopped voting by then.

Apparently Peavy is already going to start tomorrow night's nationally televised game between the Giants and Dodgers. Should be interesting.

Not surprised at Peavy being the one getting traded. This season and last season he's been more miserable than good (although not all his fault).

Everyone else in the rotation either would have been bad deals (ex. Lester, Lackey) or too low in value because of injuries (Doubront, Buchholz).

Wouldn't be surprised if in the future the MLB sets aside a year or two for a special committee who just votes for Roid era guys. That way the Hall can get the big name players and the era itself gets official Hall status like every other era in baseball history.

Damian Rey 07-26-2014 09:30 PM

Think the Sox are going to have to deal Lester at some point. They're not winning, long term contracts have not been good to them, and with the Rays winning and Price not seemingly on the market as of yet, they may be able to fetch a king's ransom for him. He's having a career year in a contract season, and considering his career numbers, I highly doubt how he is pitching this year is the guy you'd be getting beyond this season.

ClockShot 07-26-2014 09:30 PM

Blue Jays broke the streak today.

Bad News Gertner 07-28-2014 09:16 PM

Blue Jays broke the Red Sox back today and made them humble.

Droford 07-28-2014 11:26 PM

before that they made the trade for Danny Valencia, clearly a division winning trade
