Breaking news at ESPN. So I guess it's true.

Pretty damn surprised if you ask me. I'd figure another season or two and Detroit could be in the playoffs conversation.

However, I do believe that someone will make him an offer he can't refuse and he'll hook on with another team down the road.

Ruien 01-31-2016 06:03 PM

Sorry RDD.

Megatron Powering Down. Lions ruin another great talent.

Droford 01-31-2016 06:45 PM

I got good oddz he comes back within 3 years for another team.

Evil Vito 01-31-2016 07:15 PM

My initial reaction was that Megatron won't make the HOF because he didn't play long enough. But then again most people have Hines Ward going to the HOF and Megatron only has 2 less TD and around 400 fewer years in 5 less seasons.

I think he's going in eventually. It just might take a while for the logjam to clear up.

Locke 01-31-2016 09:14 PM

Calvin Johnson has always seemed like a really smart person and after all that he's done and been through, it's probably a really smart decision for him to retire.

Doesn't he have to play for the Lions if he un-retires?

Evil Vito 02-01-2016 12:18 AM

Yeah, he does. Any player who retires with time left on their contract officially goes on a reserve list and the team retains rights to the player. A couple of years after Barry retired his agents asked the Lions to trade or release him, which suggested that he wanted to come out of retirement but play for a different team. The Lions refused, so he stayed retired.

Tiki Barber sat out 4 seasons after retiring and when he filed reinstatement papers the Giants had to release him.

Innovator 02-01-2016 11:16 AM

What an asshole.

Tiki, not Johnson.

McLegend 02-01-2016 03:08 PM

Lol I forgot Tiki came out of retirement.

Evil Vito 02-01-2016 08:18 PM

I'll never forget getting a Tiki home jersey to replace my tattered Shockey jersey, and then the very next week he announced his impending retirement. I figured it was no biggie, I could still wear it since he was their best RB ever. Then he became a huge asshole and I replaced it with a Justin Tuck jersey after SB42 that I've been rocking ever since.

Speaking of which...he retired today. Great career. Probably will go into the Giants Ring of Honor fairly quickly.

Ruien 02-01-2016 08:21 PM

Why is Tiki coming out of retirement an asshole move? Did he plow the Giants or something?

Evil Vito 02-01-2016 08:24 PM

Nah it's not that. Pretty much the second he retired he went into bitter mode. Said Coughlin was a terrible coach and that Eli would never be capable of winning the big one. Then the Giants won the Super Bowl the next year without him.

More importantly though, he cheated on his wife (who was 8 months pregnant with twins) with a young NBC intern. He got fired and I'm pretty sure he only came out of retirement because she took all of his money in divorce and child support proceedings.

Innovator 02-02-2016 03:40 PM

Yeah, he shit on the coach who saved his career by teaching up to stop fumbling.

NFL adding a Rooney rule for the women's

Browns confirmed Johnny Manziel is getting the dropped the moment they are allowed by league offseason rules. Also the actual report of his recent alleged assault charges is really bad.

Quote:

DALLAS - The ex-girlfriend of NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel told police that the Heisman Trophy winner told her "shut up or I'll kill us both" after forcing her into a car, hitting her, and dragging her by the hair.

On Thursday, News 8 learned harrowing details of last week's alleged assault of Colleen Crowley by Manziel, who is currently on the Cleveland Browns roster, but is not expected to return next season.

After News 8 broke this story Thursday afternoon, Manziel denied wrongdoing in a published report.
Quote:

Sources say while in his hotel room, the two of them argued over another girl. Crowley told police she tried to leave the room, but that Manziel wouldn't let her.

Crowley told police Manziel "restrained" in some manner and "led" her down a back stairway to the valet area.

"I was crying and begged the valet, 'Please don't let him take me. I'm scared for my life!'" she told police. The valet reportedly told her, "I don't know what to do" and let Manziel leave with her.

Sources say Manziel then drove her about a half-mile to her car, which was parked near the Concrete Cowboy bar off Cedar Springs Road. She claims she jumped out of the car and tried to hide from Manziel, but he found her in some nearby bushes.

"He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself," she reportedly told police. "He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later."

Crowley then reportedly hit Manziel several times, hoping to get out of the car, but, she told police, Manziel "threw me off of him" and she hit her head on the car window. She told police he would not give her her phone.

Sources say Manziel then got on Interstate 30 and began driving to her apartment in Fort Worth. While en route, she claims, she yelled at him, "I hate you!" He allegedly replied that "he was going to drop me off, take my car and go kill himself," sources said.

She says she thought he was on drugs or maybe having a psychotic break. She told police she then began telling him she loved him.

She says at that time Manziel "started laughing" and then reportedly yelled at her to "shut up or I'll kill us both."
She says they finally made it to her Fort Worth apartment where the argument continued.

Crowley claims Manziel became angry, and smashed her phone. He then went outside and started "pacing," she told police. While she was alone, she tried to use her computer to contact her parents through Apple's FaceTime video chat system.

She said Manziel came back into the apartment, checked her computer, and realized she had tried to contact her parents.

"I was in my kitchen, so out of fear for my life, I pulled a knife out of my knife block and advanced toward him," Crowley told police.

"He ran out of the apartment," she said. When she saw him in the parking lot, she said she banged on a neighbor's door and screamed for help. Manziel fled on foot, she told police.

If Goodell wants to score some points, don't let him back in the league when the Browns dump him.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-05-2016 12:42 AM

Yeah but he's like Bill Clinton post-Monica now. Anything good he does will be either called distraction or just making up for being terrible. Manziel will be banned by not being able to get a contract to be a QB anywhere.

Johnny Foolsball is finished.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-05-2016 01:36 AM

There is only one solution. He's suspended indefinitely until a team agrees to sign him to a deal. All of the pressure will be on the team and Johnny and not the Commish. No team will want to do that so he'll be finished.

If he comes back to the NFL he has to be known as John. Johnny is dead.

According to a recent Washington Post reports, a spokesman from Peyton Manning's side allegedly admitted that roids were shipped to Peyton's house but still claims they were just for his wife.

The bigger piece of the report is allegations about Manning's private investigators intimidating the accuser's parents prior to the Al Jazzera report going public. Also claims that Mannings's investigators falsely claimed they were police as the reason for their visit.

The accuser himself wasn't at the scene but denied it happened. Reports have teased a big reason he recanted his claims was due to fears of lawsuits from players and Al Jazzera failed to protect him as a source.

Quote:

The parents of a former Indianapolis anti-aging clinic employee who made hidden-camera accusations about Peyton Manning’s alleged HGH use called 9-1-1 after goons turned up on their doorstep seeking information about their pharmacist son, Charlie Sly.

That’s just one of the revelations in a Washington Post report today in which, for the first time, a Manning spokesperson admits that part of Sly’s story was true: that the Guyer Clinic in Indianapolis did indeed ship drugs to Manning’s house as alleged by Al-Jazeera America’s documentary and later by the documentary’s producer. Manning had previously called those claims “completely fabricated.” The Manning camp refused to discuss the issue further with the Post, citing Ashley Manning’s medical privacy.

But back to that 9-1-1 call. The Washington Post reports the investigation, which was funded by Peyton Manning, featured two private dicks knocking on Randall and Judith Sly’s door—with one of them, according to the call, falsely claiming to be a cop.

Texans & Raiders will be playing a MNF game south of the border in Mexico City next season.

First time NFL played a game there since 2005 when Cardinals & 49ers played.

Ruien 02-05-2016 08:52 PM

At least they will have two ,500 teams. Unlike London getting super shitty games their first two years before anything decent.

Mercenary 02-06-2016 02:26 AM

I'm sure Peyton is pumping the HGH into him right now.

The Johnny Rehab saga in the last 24 hours:

His agent dumps him as a client.

His family wanted him to go to rehab but he said "No No Nooooooooo"

Ex-girlfriend has filed criminal charges against him and police are now investigating.

Ruien 02-06-2016 08:45 AM

Its amazing how you can have everything one day and the next nothing. His family should have stepped in awhile ago when this started developing in his youth.

ESPN had some insight on this year's Hall voting and in terms of times for debates/decisions, Eddie DeBartolo needed the longest at 50 minutes and Brett Farve needed the shortest at 19 seconds for both to get final ballot approval.

Took over 43 minutes of debating for the voters to decide against Terrell Owens for this year's class. His bad behavior reputation played a big role in not getting picked for the final ballot.

Also confirms the unwritten rule of no more than 1 guy per position per class.

Starvin' Marvin deserved to be a first ballot HOF but congrats to him getting it done.

Emperor Smeat 02-06-2016 11:08 PM

Cam Newton took the MVP award with 48 out of 50 votes (1 for Brady, 1 for Palmer) while Ron Rivera took the Coach of the Year award with 36.5 votes (Andy Reid was #2 with 6 votes).

Nice read. I'm not surprised to hear that they group the modern era guys by position. By comparing them all side by side it's easier to whittle down the field.

There really isn't a statistical measure out there that would support Harrison going in over Owens, but Harrison was waiting longer. That's just how it is.
