lol at Cody's entrance with him sledgehammering a Triple H chair.......

Gotta admit, Cody seems more "legit" than last I saw him where it looked like he had just dyed his hair and was pretending at being more than he is.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-26-2019 09:00 PM

loved the chop wars between Jericho and Omega. Reminded me of Jericho vs Benoit matches.

rez 05-26-2019 09:03 PM

I'm getting a boner watching this oriental 3 vs 3 match...

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 09:04 PM

Dustin looking in great shape.... funny how Cody can't use the Rhodes name but everyone else out there can..... Also chuckled at how they got around that with Justin Roberts announcing "COOOODDDY and Brandi RHOOOOODES"

Emperor Smeat 05-26-2019 09:12 PM

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Cody Rhodes says every AEW show won’t be 4-5 hours. <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Going to assume that happens once they have weekly tv since they are still in the proving phase with TNT and wrestling fans. Maybe shorter PPVs also mean lower PPV prices since less hour blocks they need to purchase from cable providers.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 09:16 PM

The show did feel "long" to me, even though I watched it in parts. They don't need everybody on PPV.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 09:18 PM

Interesting thing about this show: Except for the opening match, each bout got more time than the one before it. It's almost like they built to the shit that mattered.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 09:20 PM

I just realized: I probably would have enjoyed the earlier things at Double or Nothing if I had watched them with other fans. I feel like it may have rewarded me for being in a good wrestling room and watching things unfold in real time. That's probably a good thing considering they are trying to present themselves in the mold of live sports.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 09:22 PM

Meltzer said that AEW Double or Nothing was #2 on Google trends, for whatever that is worth. He suggests that this is much better than what All In got by about four times, so he's expecting AEW to do about as well as WWE's PPVs outside of their major ones like Mania, SummerSlam and the Rumble.

It will certainly be interesting to see the number.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 09:36 PM

Cody/Dustin was good, but they could have had an equally good match and told an equally good story without all the blood. One change WWE made for the better was stopping to do things like that.

Especially since he busted himself open on the "exposed turnbuckle" which quite clearly still had some padding leftover on it.....

Kind of wish Dustin had more offense in as well...

But overall good.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 09:41 PM

Whoa! Bret Hart is there! Nice knockoff theme.....

Hope he can remain unattacked....

Fignuts 05-26-2019 09:43 PM

Disagree.

You don’t want blood too often, but it’s absolutely a valuable tool in wrestling.

Dustin said in the interview that it was brandi’s Shot with the cane that really opened him up, but he’s an old school pro so that could have been Mayfair.

Fignuts 05-26-2019 09:44 PM

*kafabe

Damn autocorrect

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-26-2019 09:48 PM

Fignuts is always mayfairing motherfuckers

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 09:52 PM

K, I've turned around on MJF.... has potential.....

Random Jungle Boy for no reason.... stupid ass name....

Jimmy Havoc seems like trash.....

I saw no shot with a cane..... maybe my stream was missing that.... though it didn't seem to jump or skip anything.....

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 09:55 PM

Looks like a nice belt.... "weird" that for a title reveal that Bret wouldn't even hold it up to the hard camera side for long, and they wouldn't even get a close-up shot of it....

I think they do need better producers on this show.... a lot of time commentators seem absolutely lost too.....

Fignuts 05-26-2019 09:58 PM

As bad as some of the missed camera spots were, I’ll take what we were given over violent shaking and 50 cuts per minute any day of the week.

 Besmirching the name of the late Luke Perry's son.

They really need to get the license for his indies theme for his entrance since one of his biggest appeals on the indies was crowds signing along to his theme. Like Sandman's routine in ECW but with a more upbeat song and lack of beer cans.

Yeah that is the most craziest thing. He's pretty much done that since he left WWE with Brandi. They've announced her with him in Impact, ROH, and now AEW just so they can legally add the Rhodes in I guess. Seems he'd have to pay to have the name which he's not to keen on but no one else has any problems.

The blood in the Cody/Dustin match was good symbilsim with the attitude era stuff and it also completed Dustin's face paint. It was needed for sure.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 11:24 PM

Just watched the tag team title match.... Was pretty good.... suffered a bit from "Lucha Underground syndrome".... (Which I named after my short time watching Lucha Underground)

Where there are so many huge big spots in the match that by all rights probably should have ended the match.... that by the time the real end rolls around you are tired and underwhelmed by it.....

Overall I liked it, just saying that I would not be able to watch that "on a regular basis" without getting "burnt out".

Also, I didn't know Pentagon and Fenix were real brothers...... always thought that they got stuck together because of "Look, it's those two people from Lucha Underground" and called "Lucha Brothers" because "Lucha House Party" was already taken.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 11:25 PM

Also, the "Meltzer Driver" itself seems like a bad finisher with a dumb name.....

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 11:29 PM

Sweet video package for Jericho/Omega....

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 11:33 PM

Liked Jericho's entrance and how he looks........ why is there a Cracker Barrel in the ring.....

Saddens me that you fall in with STD on this matter. If anything Lucha House Party is a result of Lucha Underground/Lucha Bros success.

Lock Jaw 05-26-2019 11:36 PM

lol at the cracker barrel and Jericho getting it out of the ring himself......

Oh, fuck off. They put some Hispanic guys together and put “Lucha” in their names. Are the Lucha Bros. a rip-off of the Lucha Dragons?

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 11:51 PM

I pretty much agree with you on everything, LJ, except for Cody/Dustin. It was great the way it was.

No because they're actual Lucha Brothers.

I'm not the one correlating every thing Lucha into a WWE thing. Lucha Dragons started a month before Lucha Underground, it's probably safe to call Lucha Dragons a result of the hype that Lucha Underground built up to their debut.

Mr. Nerfect 05-26-2019 11:57 PM

That’s ridiculous.

No thinking they're called Lucha Bros because of a low card act like Lucha House Party is ridiculous.

Lock Jaw 05-27-2019 12:07 AM

Whoa at Jericho winning.... I'm happy, though.... Was a good match, and def the best of the night...

Jericho and Omega def seem like the main reasons right now to "tune into more" AEW.....

Simple Fan 05-27-2019 12:08 AM

Jericho winning was the right decision. Should be the first AEW Champion.

But calling eachother "bros" is such a white thing to do.
