I think he still could have found his way to WWE and gotten far on personality and “less is more” wrestling. At that point, who knows how much longer he could have extended his career. Hell in a Cell with Taker still seems like it would have been pretty pivotal to him getting to the next level but after that I’m not so sure he needed to be a bump machine.

Gotta find a clip of when he jumped off the ropes to the concrete to a do a sunset flip on Paul Orndorff for absolutely no reason. What a lunatic.

Interesting rumor making the rounds this morning. It's been said that AEW was trying to get Bret Hart, with several talents referencing him, the Owen Hart cup, etc. Was supposedly going to manage FTR.

Well that might all be a pipe dream as its being reported that AEW is under the impression that Bret has signed a new deal with WWE instead.

Bret of all people signing with WWE over AEW....kinda says a lot.

I think that’s off the mark. Fans of any TV show want compelling writing and stars. It’s an easy excuse to say that fans were lost to MMA (which many would argue is a completely different market) and because the show is PG.

It’s because they write bad television consistently and have no stars.

People don’t generally watch wrestling for the wrestling. They watch it for the stories and the special moments, which WWE choose to give you once a year.

If anything, they, along with AEW, are making a product specifically for the fans of sweaty shirtless guys grappling, because they don’t offer anything else beyond the wrestling.

Not really. He gets a boatload of money from Vince to not have to do anything, which is a sweet deal.

I'm actually kinda relieved he's not gonna be FTR's manager. I don't think they need a manager, they can talk...particularly Dax. Love Tully but he really didn't add much aside from the optics of their "old school team" vibe by having a manager for the sake of having one.

Would've been a cool moment for him to present the Owen Hart Cups winners with a trophy but I didn't want to see him as a regular on-screen character.

As it is I think everybody wins in this situation. Good for the Hitman for getting paid.

#1-norm-fan 04-22-2022 02:04 PM

The “sweaty, shirtless tough guy grappling” dumb generalization aside, I think both can be true to an extent. People stopped watching wrestling because wrestling lost the script and the storytelling became abysmal. Many replaced it with stuff that did classic wrestling storytelling better (including MMA).

#1-norm-fan 04-22-2022 02:05 PM

Also, apologies to Dale, but Bret would be kind of an awful manager.

ron the dial 04-22-2022 02:07 PM

lol bret would be an abysmal manager

Bad News Gertner 04-22-2022 02:16 PM

He was kind of an abysmal wrestler as well.

Jordan 04-22-2022 02:45 PM

WWE has Bret? Well AEW has Owen, so take that.

#1-norm-fan 04-22-2022 02:45 PM

Now that’s not fair.

… He’s only an abysmal wrestler when compared to HBK.

Bret would get paid a lot of money to not do anything in AEW. Half the roster is in that boat right now. He’s employed Arn and Tully since the start.

AEW had nothing to do with his brother. They are dining out on his death like they do Brodie Lee every year.

this may shock you but I agree. I mean it could be kind of funny watching him not actually want to be there. But beyond that, it'd be bad.

Helen Hart right now would be a better manager than Bret.

ron the dial 04-22-2022 06:18 PM

if we're talking hart managers, let's all brainstorm and figure out a way to get gary hart back in the mix. his reanimated corpse would be 100x better than living bret hart.

fucking PLEASE let teddy hart manage someone

Mr. Nerfect 04-22-2022 06:35 PM

It took me a long time to appreciate Bret Hart, but he’s easily one of the greatest of all-time. Way more wrestlers need to look at what he did and how he did, learn what they can, and adapt it.

Do not want to see him as a manager, lol. Special appearances and sometimes backing someone? Sure.

Given all the pieces they had going into Revolution, the smartest main event for Double or Nothing (in my opinion) would have been Adam Page defending against MJF with Bret Hart there to present the belt to the winner as a throwback to their very first show. Punk could have wrestled Jeff Hardy. But alas.

I would have also been okay with Punk beating Page at DON and Goldberg showing up on Dynamite to Spear him. Punk (w/ Bret) vs. Goldberg (w/ MJF). If you could have signed him for two matches, Punk & Wardlow vs. MJF & Goldberg as the second one.
