Lol never said the Leafs were great. They are awful.

El Fangel 01-05-2011 05:31 PM

On paper, they arent a terribly bad team. I cant place what the hell is wrong with them.

Also, I await the shipping of Kaberle at the trade deadline, for picks they will trade to boston for Marc Savard :p

Emperor Smeat 01-05-2011 06:05 PM

Do the Bruins still have another 1st round pick from the Leafs for the next draft?

I forgot if the Kessel deal was just the 2010 1st round pick or 2010 and 2011 1st round picks.

weather vane 01-05-2011 06:17 PM

Yes. Unreal deal for us.

El Fangel 01-05-2011 06:41 PM

1st 2010
2nd 2010
1st 2011

for

Phil "Our Lord and Savior" Kessel

Gertner 01-05-2011 08:16 PM

K, people shit on Kessel and although I'm not his biggest fan.....HE'S PLAYING ON A FUCKING LINE WITH JOEY CRABB AND TYLER BOZAK!!!!! They shell out all this cash and picks for him and then basically give him a toothpick and an elastic band and say "build a house". It's not possible. FA, they are horrible on paper. They have 1 good line: MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin and that's it. Kessel is basically on a line with nothing. Versteeg sucks (I remember saying numerous times I hated that trade), Bozak has been bad, Armstrong has been bad, Sjostrom, Mitchell, Brent and Boyce are all terrible. Orr does his job as does Brown but they are fourth liners. They sent down their only good faceoff man in Zigomanis and kept friggen Mitchell. Kaberle and Schenn are excellent, Komisarek is a disaster, Beacuchemin isn't much better, Phaneuf is always out of position, Gunnerson is meh and Lebda blows. Their goaltending is good but it's offset by their terrible defence and their forwards not backchecking. Their pk and pp is terrible. Joey Crabb is on the power play. Enough said. Their forwards are under-sized and the team doesn't hit. Ron Wilson should be fired as should Brian Burke. There has been no fucking progress whatsoever and the only reason I watch is to see Colton Orr fight. There FA, did I answer your question?

parkmania 01-05-2011 08:44 PM

4 goals in under 8 minutes by the Pens against Tampa.

And Malkin and Crosby only have 1 point each.

Wasnt he supposed to be the savior of the Leafs, skyrocketing them towards playoff contention? Did they not finish in the league basement? Why would anyone believe that he alone could make the Leafs so good that trading two first rounders wouldn't look like a bad idea? If you think about it, the picks would have have had to be 20th overall or below for the deal to look even slightly fair. That would have meant a jump of 13 places in the standings. Instead they regressed farther and ended up in 29th and look to be in the bottom 5 again this year. Thats two top 5 picks for Kessel. They could easily have gotten a better player from those picks. And please dont hand me the "well who thought they would be that bad" crap, because every non leafs fan believe that, they all mostly thought that the leafs would do worse not better. Its frustrating as most leafs fans will stubbornly defend the trade saying teh FA and College signings make up for picks. Fact of the matter its mostly players no one else wants. Example being Bozak.

They shell out all this cash and picks for him and then basically give him a toothpick and an elastic band and say "build a house".

They are responsible for the blueprints and supplies, he isnt.

It's not possible. FA, they are horrible on paper. They have 1 good line: MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin and that's it.

Agreed

Kessel is basically on a line with nothing. Versteeg sucks (I remember saying numerous times I hated that trade), Bozak has been bad, Armstrong has been bad, Sjostrom, Mitchell, Brent and Boyce are all terrible.

I smashed the Versteeg trade from the start, he was a product of his environment not a product of being an immensely skilled player.

Orr does his job as does Brown but they are fourth liners.

A guy whose sole duty is to beat the shit out of other goons being one of the few doing their job is really saying something.

They sent down their only good faceoff man in Zigomanis and kept friggen Mitchell.

Retarded, as you would agree.

Kaberle and Schenn are excellent, Komisarek is a disaster, Beacuchemin isn't much better, Phaneuf is always out of position, Gunnerson is meh and Lebda blows.

Kaberle is gone, Im sure of it. He wants a cup and he wont see one anytime soon in Toronto. Schenn, if smart wont resign with them either, he is a prime player and would be much better elsewhere. Beauchemin...yeah...

Phaneuf? I thought the Leafs traded for Bourque... Or thats the way they made it seem. Captain Fantastic there.

Gunnerson is meh like you and said and Lebda is horrid.

Their goaltending is good but it's offset by their terrible defence and their forwards not backchecking.

Gustavsson and JSG are ok, Reimer looks good. But look at all the half decent goalies whose careers went to shit in Toronto.

Belfour, Joseph, Pogge, Toskala, etc. Once there and playing their numbers were horrible compared to elsewhere.

Their pk and pp is terrible. Joey Crabb is on the power play. Enough said. Their forwards are under-sized and the team doesn't hit.

Yeah, thats another thing.

Ron Wilson should be fired as should Brian Burke. There has been no fucking progress whatsoever

There wasnt before BB showed up either.

and the only reason I watch is to see Colton Orr fight. There FA, did I answer your question?

Mostly yes.

5 First period goals...

Gertner 01-05-2011 09:06 PM

Lol you wanted a reason why the Leafs aren't good and there ya go. Kessel would make sense if they put a couple solid players around him. It's not so much the trade for Kessel that I hate, it's what they did after the trade.

Gertner 01-05-2011 09:07 PM

I will argue one counterpoint: Belfour and Joseph were excellent on Toronto, well Belfour was until his last year.

weather vane 01-05-2011 11:28 PM

The trade would of made SOME sense if they had a team for Kessel to play with. They had no chance of doing anything so why throw away the future? The trade was dumb. Would you rather have Seguin/2nd Rounder 2010/1st Rounder 2011/Bottom of standings or Kessel/Bottom of standings? With Seguin and their first rounder this year they would of have a nice solid base with cap space for the future. It was a no brainer really.

El Fangel 01-06-2011 01:07 AM

It seems a lot of Toronto fans feel the need to rationalize that trade. It was a dumb move pure and simple, admit it. You don't see me trying to rationalize the fact we have Scott Gomez do you:p

Emperor Smeat 01-06-2011 01:57 AM

On paper, the Kessel trade was huge for Toronto and horrible for Boston since nobody was expecting the 1st Round pick to be lower than #10 or Top 15. Once Toronto did nothing to build around Kessel and struggled badly, Boston made out huge in the deal.

Bruins could theoretically do what the Penguins did in getting 2 mega picks without the need to be a horrible team record-wise like Pitt was for those 2 years.

El Fangel 01-06-2011 02:23 AM

What have most teams who make a strong run into the playoffs done? Build through drafting

What does the owners of Maple Leafs want? Profits

What does playoffs games create? Lots of profits

What did Toronto trade away? Future profits

Gertner 01-06-2011 11:20 AM

Lol you know what's a funny stat that you wouldn't believe? Toronto his statistically the youngest team in the NHL. Even younger than Edmonton.

Gertner 01-06-2011 11:25 AM

The problem with all those high draft picks is that sooner or later you'll have to pay them. That's a problem I see happening in Edmonton especially the way they are building. MSP, Eberle and Hall will all be getting big raises in a couple years. They are going to finish near the bottom again which will mean another high paid player in a couple years. They have no young defencemen and no young goaltender( dubnyk and deslauiers suck). Add to that Whitney, Hensky, Gagner, Penner and Cogliano are all well paid, I'm not 100% sold. Building from the draft is good to a point, because in today's NHL the cap creates problems. You can't have a bunch of players making a lot of money anymore. Edmonton is on a slippery slope with what they are doing.

Emperor Smeat 01-06-2011 08:40 PM

Mexico wants to hold its own Winter Classic and wants the NHL to consider them for a future site.

January 9th has Mexico U-20 team vs Bulgaria U-20 team playing outdoors in Mexico City as a test and to show the NHL its bid. Problem is the weather expected that day will be in the low 70s but no rain like in Pitt-Washigton Classic.

El Fangel 01-06-2011 09:52 PM

I hope the players wear sombreros in the bench.

Gertner 01-06-2011 11:57 PM

Mikeal Grabovski is tremendous. Thanks Montreal.

El Fangel 01-07-2011 12:46 AM

How's Mikey K doing over in T-Dot?

JimmyMess 01-07-2011 12:16 PM

Dion Phaneuf = totally lost

Gertner 01-07-2011 06:02 PM

Komisarek is an abortion. Grabovski is amazing. That being said, putting him with Kessel would be a massive mistake. Grabovski is a smaller Olli Jokinen: shoot first, pass second centerman. Lol you know who would fit in with Kessel FA and I know you're going to laugh but Scott Gomez.

Gertner 01-07-2011 06:05 PM

Wilson needs to go to Phaneuf and say "go nuts". I think Phaneuf is overthinking his game. Just do what you do. He's trying to be too defensive and he's not that type of player.

That would be hilarious. Him and kings ransom he earns in salary.

Gertner 01-07-2011 06:30 PM

Lol Gomez never shoots and that's what Kessel needs. If you took salary out of the equation Twhich I know is stupid) they'd be a perfect fit.

JimmyMess 01-07-2011 07:14 PM

Kessel needs a Marc Savard again... unfortunately there is only one Marc Savard and he's in Boston

El Fangel 01-07-2011 10:27 PM

So is Tyler Seguin

HiYYYYOHHHHHHHH!!!

Gertner 01-07-2011 11:09 PM

Lol Toronto hung 9 on Atlanta. Grabovski with 2 more.

El Fangel 01-08-2011 12:29 AM

Kaberle with 4A.

Has 29A on the season now I believe.

Gertner 01-08-2011 01:30 AM

Lol 1 goal and 29 assists. Only the Leafs could manage to win 9-3, get outshot by 10 and have players with a -2.

Hockey will never be as popular as football

parkmania 01-08-2011 03:40 PM

Have people been viewing this "Guardian Project" that NHL and Stan Lee are revealing on Facebook?

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/to2dPdfasRI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/to2dPdfasRI?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Not sure how I really feel about this.

Gertner 01-08-2011 06:18 PM

A colossal waste of money.

parkmania 01-08-2011 08:54 PM

I'd probably like it a bit more if the Penguin guy didn't look like a total rip-off of Cyclops. Friggin hate the X-Men.

Londoner 01-08-2011 09:33 PM

wooooooooooooooo

lets go boston!

Emperor Smeat 01-08-2011 10:48 PM

:nono: Bruins are horrible holding leads late in a game.

This season and last season probably set some sort of records for most leads blown.

El Fangel 01-10-2011 11:03 PM

Holy shit at Boston blowing Pitts out with 3.5 mins left.
