Fuck you Selig. We need Ginacarlo Mike Stanton. Whatever he wants to be called.
WTF Selig you don't try to stop them spending tons of cash indiscriminately but you will stop them trying to sell it off? Double standard :n: |

You said never. It was once good.

Touché.

They really need to upgrade at 3rd and short. Scott Rolen is a free agent. I think they should really look at him on a 2 year deal . I guess Pennington would cut it at short, but I really dont see anything special in Chris Johnson. |
Rolen wouldn't be worth it, too injury prone. And I forgot Chris Young was part of the Stephen Drew trade. Aaron Hill is also a good piece on that team.
|
Rolen retired IIRC.
|
Drew is a free agent. Pennington was the ss they dealt.
I think Rolen might be done. He's been hurt a lot and being only able to play third probably limits his options. The guy I'd take a flyer on is Youkilis. He will probably take a one year deal, and, despite a .230 average, still got on base/slugged at a better than .330/.400 clip. |
Mets currently have 7 teams willing to trade for Dickey.
If its the Red Sox, they want SS prospect Xander Boegarts (#1 ranked Sox prospect) and OF prospect Jackie Bradley Jr (#2 ranked Sox prospect). If its the Rangers, they want their top rated outfield prospect and prospect catcher. Every other team is roughly the same for prospect value the Mets are looking for. Rays willing to trade James Shield but not as steep of a trading price that would be needed if it was David Price instead. Greinke to Dodgers and Hamilton back with Rangers are the leading teams for either player's "sweepstakes" |
Soria to Rangers?

closer or starter

Neither

Ricky Nolasco wants out of Miami, according to his agent. The official request to the Marlins front office is unknown.
|
Former Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert, umpire Hank O'Day, and catcher Deacon all got elected into the Hall of Fame from the Pre-Intergation Committee, which if I was reading correctly, is a spin-off from the Veteran's Committee.

Nats sign Dan Haren. 1-year, $13 mil.
|
Mets are trying to get Vinnie Pestano from the Indians. Would love that move. Young, great sinker, and under team control for four more years. No idea why the Indians would even trade him.

this would have been a great type of deal/gamble for the Jays |
Great signing for Nats. Postseason rotation of Strasbourg, Gonzalez, Haren could be money next year and erase the bad taste from this years first round collapse.
|
Red Sox are signing Victorino for 3 years. They wouldn't give Cody Ross 3, but they do for Shane? Feel like I'm gonna hate this deal.
|
I got a feeling this deal is gonna backfire just like the Crawford deal.
I'm with ya, Naitchx3. |
It's still 4 years and $103 million cheaper though.
|
Red Sox are doing very curious things. Not the good kind of curious.
|
Giants exercise Bruce Bochy and Brian Sabean's options for 2014.
Didn't know Sabean is MLB's longest tenured GM. Got the job back in '96. |
Quote:
The deal is pretty odd but I guess the deciding factor was Victorino has played more games than Ross the last 2 years or so and his career average is better than Ross. Probably a better fielder than Ross which is what they need a lot along with depth. |
I swear Bochy is one of the few functioning alcoholics to manage a WS winning team.
|
Billy Martin puts Bochy to shame.
|
No doubt. But Bochy has 2 rings and possibly more to come if his liver can hold up.
|
Rumor mill is working overtime right now. Probably a safe bet something good goes down either late tonight or overnight.
|
what are some of the rumours?
|
It's looking like a Dickey trade won't be happening now. The Royals have publicly said talks are dead if Wil Myers is the asking price. The Mets have been asking for any team's top OF prospect and everybody has balked. Not entirely surprising given Dickey's age.
I don't blame Sandy for taking a hard line approach with this. Trading the reigning Cy Young Award winner who also happens to be one of the most popular players on the team for spare parts would be disappointing. |
|
Marco Scutaro stays with the Giants. 3-years, $20 mil.
Rays aquire Yunel Escobar from the Marlins for Derek Dietrich. |

True but he's a knuckleballa. They pitch longer than others so the dickey is like 31 in knuckle years.
|
Not saying I would give up my top two prospects to get him, but he was the real deal last year. If I were a gm I would kick the tires in case the mets thought last year was a fluke and/or the price comes down.
|
They do pitch longer but having his coming out party so late is scary. My Jays fan friends want him but not if that means losing D'arnaud and Synndergarrd
