Damian Rey 2.0 03-07-2021 11:44 PM

Was that ending botched?

fundiddle 03-07-2021 11:44 PM

"eddie is not in good shape either, man"

thanks, schiavone

Jordan 03-07-2021 11:45 PM

OMG I can't belive what I've just seen. I actually herd someone yell REFUND. OH man what a painful failure.

xrodmuc316 03-07-2021 11:45 PM

I'm not even gonna lie, that big explosion was SOOOOO bad it's almost perfect. I'm legit laughing, that's exactly the kind of amazingness only Pro Wrestling can offer.

rez 03-07-2021 11:45 PM

prob the biggest botch in recent memory

fundiddle 03-07-2021 11:46 PM

i felt like that ending was so fucking bad that it almost seemed like an homage/parody of another exploding death match from a long time ago with a lackluster ending, but then they had to sell it like it literally killed. hilariously shit ending to a whatever main event

screech 03-07-2021 11:46 PM

Well that certainly put a damper on a great show lol

Evil Vito 03-07-2021 11:46 PM

Near perfect show and that ending just guaranteed they're gonna be a laughingstock coming out of it.

GD 03-07-2021 11:46 PM

Guys, Eddie Kingston might've had a heart attack or may have fainted due to the stress of the impending explosion

Shisen Kopf 03-07-2021 11:47 PM

Wow. That was not All Elite pyrotechnics

Volare 03-07-2021 11:47 PM

I don't blame TK for being "sensory inclusive" with pyro and shit, but god man for one night you had to let that shit go and just say "Hey this shit is going to be loud as hell so here's your warning."

Emperor Smeat 03-07-2021 11:48 PM

Outside of that lame show closing ending, Revolution was a very entertaining show overall.

If it wasn't for the last couple minutes of the Exploding deathmatch and the wet fart of a ending to the show, that match would have been my favorite of the night. Currently leaning towards the Street Fight instead.

Volare 03-07-2021 11:49 PM

Fuck put up to sides of "safety glass" and show the extras around the ring wearing hearing protection and goggles for fuck sakes.

Damian Rey 2.0 03-07-2021 11:50 PM

They could've easily saved it by having Omega and co come back out laughing their asses off and Eddie looking bewildered at not being blown to bits with Callas saying they ribbed us all. That's a helluva lot to ask for on the fly but damn theyshould've called some sorry of audible

rez 03-07-2021 11:51 PM

prob thinking that hardcore matches should also only be cinematic.

Sepholio 03-07-2021 11:51 PM

lmao @ that botched finale

Also lmao @ Christian being the big surprise. I like Christian but they can fuck right off with that. At this point that is about as bush league of a signing as you can get. He just isn't relevant at this point.

Yeah that would've been something of a redeemer but fuck me... so bad.

Evil Vito 03-07-2021 11:52 PM

A fantastic PPV with an all-time lame ending and unfortunately the latter is what most of the internet is gonna remember.

RIP EDDIE KINGSTON

CAUSE OF DEATH - AFTERSHOCKS FROM SPARKLERS

Volare 03-07-2021 11:54 PM

Well bullshit aside, I guess Omega vs Kingston next?

I wasn't that into the main event in the first place. They pussed out and went half way with everything. The wrapped the ropes instead of removing and replacing with barbed wire. They used fake barbed wire on the boards on the outside and maybe on the ropes as well. The boards in the ring seemed legit though. The explosions themselves were quite shit the whole way through anyway which is honestly why they shouldn't have done them in the first place. This is the first time AEW has dreadfully failed and they did so in such a big and embarrassing way. This definitely reminds me of the WCW Chamber of Horrors Match where Abdullah and Cactus had a dumb shit ending and honestly that was even better than this. This made everyone look bad especially Eddie Kingston and the commentary team who had to attempt to sell it, even though JR couldn't even muster the strength to which for once I totally understand.

Prob'ly something from Wrestling Society X. They did explodey rings and "electric" ropes and overly gimmicked weapons for about the six episodes they existed. I think Kenny was one of the guys in it, too (I vaugely remember Raven and X-Pac), so I wouldn't be surprised if it were a callback to that.

Yeah that really needed an audible called assuming that was a badly botched pyro spot.

Think the landmine barbed wire spot on the floor might have also been botched as well since the explosions looked a bit off when it happened. I'd assume the explosions were meant to happen on both sides and not just a single side.

Evil Vito 03-08-2021 12:02 AM

Yeah, like I said, the story is no longer about how it was a great show with tons of matches that delivered, it's a show that will always be known for a huge fuck-up at the end.

People who have watched and mostly enjoyed AEW (including a lot of this board) know it's a fuck-up but got enough out of the show/the product as a whole to happily continue watching Wednesday. The core fanbase isn't going away.

But anyone who came into this show on the fence? They're gone. That's how bad the ending was, the kind of thing that can single-handedly actively get people to turn away. And of course it's also endless ammo to the anti-AEW crowd.

Triple A 03-08-2021 12:02 AM

GUY IN CHARGE OF EXPLOSIONS REALLY FUCKED UP................. DICKHEAD........

No it was not an homage to something bad it was bad.

Maluco 03-08-2021 12:05 AM

Christian Cage, Sting going over and a massive, glaring botch at the most pivotal moment in the show!??

TNA, TNA, TNA!!

Tom Guycott 03-08-2021 12:06 AM

That too. But I still wouldn't put it past them to do something intentionally bad because it was "funny".

Sucked either way, so arguing about it is moot.

Triple A 03-08-2021 12:07 AM

Damn man... they really f*cked that up... feel bad for Kingston and Moxley having to act like they were in a brutal explosion... feel bad for Omega @ this kinda "ruining the match"

Wonder what the explanation is, like they "weren't allowed to have that big of an explosion" or something? Or a bunch of them didn't go off or whatever... hopefully that wasn't the actual explosion they had planned.........

They were never going to go full FMW with that match both for legal and timing reasons.

Street Fight itself didn't go on long enough to do a proper FMW style setup anyways.

rez 03-08-2021 12:10 AM

Yeah... Noid can def watch a few tweets and be in the right with that botched ending.

I've been skipping Dynamite and skimming episodes on demand since Omega took the belt. It's certainly not to the level of trash WWE is at, which I don't even read the results of anymore. But this PPV was easily the worst that I've seen from them. Sure the tag title match was good, the street fight was cool and the battle royal was a big surprise but compared to the rest of the best we've seen from AEW this was a pretty low standard on all accounts. Take it from someone on the fence. This show did no favors.

Also while I don't watch Japanese Deathmatches any longer and have zero interest in them. I did have a phase when I was like 13 or so where I traded tapes and got ahold of all the classics from Big Japan, IWA and FMW. With the Onita praise AEW did I had pretty high and brutal expectations for this main event tonight. And the thing is with these death matches, they look brutal, but it's all superficial. They didn't even go that far with this one, they had gimmicked barbed wire through half the spots. When Mox got up from the DDT off the apron I was thoroughly slighted that he didn't have blood pouring from his back. Call me a savage but if they say Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match, I want a fucking serious ass death match. Hell TNA got the barbed wire massacare right every time.

Triple A 03-08-2021 12:14 AM

Show left me feeling depressed tbh

Triple A 03-08-2021 12:15 AM

ate too much junk food and felt like shit already though,

To each their own, I actually enjoyed the hell out of most of this show. Ending aside I actually felt like the ladder match was my low point, the energy was just really off during that one, though I'm glad Sky won.

They've already announced stuff for Dynamite that intrigues me. Sky/Darby should be good, I hope to see Jericho get chucked out of the Inner Circle, and the eventual Bucks/Death Triangle match is gonna be a can't-miss.

That said, despite really liking the show I do think it was a step down from other AEW PPVs because the bar was set so high. Knowing that Double or Nothing will be in Daily's Place probably with restricted crowd still (for the best, but still) kinda sucks. I miss pre-pandemic wrestling and hope that by All In everyone's back on the road and every promotion has a lively crowd of people who have been waiting a year to go to shows.
