Droford 08-29-2016 07:44 PM

The ump tonight is calling the worst strike zone I've seen the whole year..but to be fair it's both teams..

Droford 08-29-2016 07:51 PM

Orioles are only the 6th team ever to hit 50 HR twice in one month as a team.

Currently at 205 with 31 games left which is 59 short of tying the record of 264. They had 56 homers in June so if they could hit a few more in this Jays series they could have a shot at the record.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 08:12 PM

Ump is calling it consistently, nothing wrong with his strikezone, just big side to side.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-29-2016 10:20 PM

Woo hoo go Toronto. Oh Canada!

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 10:26 PM

lol. Nice game tonight. Pretty much a tailor made victory. 7 innings from your starter, big hold from bullpen in the 8th. Add on runs in the top ninth, 1-2-3 bottom ninth from Joaquin The Crippler Benoit.

Hopefully they take advantage of that fucking plug, Jimenez tomorrow night.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 10:26 PM

-edit- double post

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 10:50 PM

I was right about the Jays making Miley look like a Cy Young contender though.

Evil Vito 08-29-2016 10:54 PM

Yeah I'm done with the Mets if they don't re-sign Cespedes this winter. They can't win without him. He's a fucking beast.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-29-2016 11:04 PM

There's nowhere to put him Vito. He's not a centerfielder and clearly doesn't want to play there. They still have Granderson on the books, Conforto needs to play everyday, and God knows what they're gonna do with Bruce.

What they need to do is figure out their centerfield situation and second base. I thought I read they might extend Walker. But nonetheless. 3rd base is also a position of need.

Ruien 08-29-2016 11:08 PM

Didn't Cespedes say he plans on staying there? That he would not option out if need be? Could have sworn that was on ESPN which shows he wants to be a Met.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 11:12 PM

Also, we all know that Vito will never be done with the Mets.

You make room for Cespedes. He is their only bat. Grandy can be a 4th outfielder in his last year. Conforto in CF where he's been playing in AAA, Bruce in RF. Conforto to RF full time in 2018 when Bruce and Grandy are both gone.

I don't see them extending Walker given the amount of time he's missed with his back injury, but it'll look bad if they don't keep him considering they traded Dilson goddamn Herrera. As for 3B, Reyes has a league minimum option for next year since Colorado is paying his regular salary. He'll be back and be the insurance policy at 3B for when Wright inevitably gets hurt again.

He's said he wants to stay but he immediately walked back his opt out comments saying "I'll leave that to my agents".

We all know his agents will tell him to opt out because it's a horrible free agent market and he's going to get the $100+ million offers he didn't get last offseason.

Ruien 08-29-2016 11:18 PM

Still the fact remains, he wants to be a Met. And yes, you make room for the best player on the team.

Ruien 08-29-2016 11:19 PM

Toronto needs to take 1 more from Baltimore to send them on their way down to a no wild card spot.

I will be if they let Cespedes go. I waited through 4 terrible Alderson seasons to finally see the team be good, letting their best player leave is going to make their lineup even worse than it has been this year. There's little point in having a stud rotation (which is injury prone as hell, btw) if nobody in your lineup can score.

I was the same way last offseason, very adamant that they bring Yo back and he's showed everybody why this year.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 11:20 PM

.... I'll believe it when I see it

God it'd be great, only so Droford could suffer.

You won't see me in this thread again if they let him walk. Except maybe a video of me burning every piece of Met gear I own (and that's a lot).

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-29-2016 11:23 PM

lmfao Vito you are the best.

Evil Vito 08-29-2016 11:23 PM

God the thought of Bruce, Granderson, and Duda all being regular starters in the lineup next year is vomit inducing. They're all the exact same player. Left-handed hackers with no strategy at the plate other than to swing for the fences every AB.

God I love a fucking home run when everybody immediately jumps up the second the ball hits the bat.

Exactly. Although, he will probably stop posting. But deep down we will just imagine how much he is suffering.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-30-2016 10:44 AM

They'd be dumb to have Conforto share time. He needs to play everyday. And not in 2018. Right now. And not in centerfield. Because he's not a centerfielder. It didn't work with Cespedes in c.f. this year, and it won't work throwing Conforto out there either. You can't just run a guy out there, out of position, and expect it to stick.

They're not gonna bench Granderson, who's making $15 mil. The only thing I can think of is they move Granderson and in turn one of Cespedes, assuming he doesn't opt out, or Conforto goes to right and they live with Lagares in center or look for an upgrade.

If they run out an outfield of corner outfielders they're gonna have the same issues they've had this year out there.

Evil Vito 08-30-2016 11:29 AM

Conforto made a great diving play in CF earlier this year and has been getting excessive work there in the minors along with now taking RF reps. It's clear they're committing to him being comfortable at the other two OF positions because he's going to need to play there if he wants to help at all down the stretch in September. Whether or not idiot Terry gives him ABs over Bruce or Grandy in September remains to be seen.

Os are 1 game ahead of Detroit 2 ahead of KC And 3 ahead of Seattle. So it's not the end of the world just yet.

Evil Vito 08-30-2016 11:30 AM

Given how big of a colossal bust Jay Bruce has been with the Mets I wouldn't even be averse to them just paying him the $1 million buyout after the season and letting him go so Conforto can play RF next year. Bruce is a fucking dullard.

Evil Vito 08-30-2016 11:32 AM

As for Grandy, the best thing he can do for this team is going to be to pull a Cuddyer and retire this winter. He can't play at this level anymore. If he has to be an expensive backup next year then so be it but they CANNOT use Grandy's contract as an excuse to not pay Cespedes.

Evil Vito 08-30-2016 11:34 AM

You pay Cespedes whatever he wants and you put him in LF next year. You work the rest of the OF around him. He's the heart and soul of this team and a fucking New York franchise has no business letting a guy like him get away.

The window of contention with these pitchers will be slammed shut if Cespedes leaves, because he is the only surefire offensive weapon the Mets have. They have no chance of winning without him. None.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-30-2016 12:26 PM

A diving catch does not mean he's good in center. It's just a diving catch. I think if they pay down the contract they'll be able to move Granderson. The question is whether or not they'll pay it down.

Or trade his contract for another at a different position.

Evil Vito 08-30-2016 12:54 PM

All I'm saying is he's seemed comfortable there. A lot more comfortable than I would have expected. Not saying he's a long-term solution there, but if CF is the only way to get him into the lineup in 2017 because they insist on trotting one of Bruce/Granderson out in RF, so be it. He can move to RF in 2018. This is all contingent on retaining Cespedes, which they simply need to do.

In a perfect world...I'd like Cespedes in LF, Conforto in RF, and enough offense coming out of the infield that you can get by with Lagares playing CF every day. Juan is still amazing defensively and kills LHP but is useless against RHP. If you have a strong 1-7 though it doesn't matter as much.

Doubt the Mets could get to that point though. Wright and d'Arnaud are always going to be hurt, Flores is the same as Lagares in that he can't hit RHP, and Duda is inconsistent. All of these are more reasons why they need to keep Cespedes as he's the one guy that consistently mashes everybody.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-30-2016 09:51 PM

Baltimore Orioles, greatest team of all time.

Jimenez looked good tonight. Happ was a bit off, but battled and kept the team in the game.

We'll see which Gallardo and which Sanchez show up tomorrow. Gonna be fun.

It's possible to challenge a play even after losing an earlier challenge?

Rays manager just did a second challenge even though he lost the first one earlier in the game. Guess the guys on NESN said its possible to use an ump's challenge but didn't seem like the ump himself disagreed with the call at first.

Could see if it was the ump who initiated but it was the Rays manager who requested it be done.

Prediction: wishful thinking

Droford 08-30-2016 10:38 PM

They're 1 game ahead of the Orioles.

Evil Vito 08-31-2016 12:02 AM

Granderson with 2 HR off the bench tonight. I think he'd be motivated being an expensive bench player next year. ;)

Evil Vito 08-31-2016 12:03 AM

Granderson 2016 HR: 22
Granderson 2016 RBI: 38

lol that is almost impossible

On July1. Baltimore was 4 games up in the division. On August 1 they were one game up.

29 days later, they've not only lost first place, they're now one game behind Boston and have dropped to 3rd place.

Context is s real thing Droford. You make it sound like Baltimore is sounding the charge and making a run from behind. The reality is the opposite. Their lousy pitching and run differential is catching up to them and they're falling out of it.
