Garcia loves pitching in bases loaded jams

Innovator 08-07-2011 08:56 PM

Gotta love 44 pitches in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 outs.

Innovator 08-07-2011 09:02 PM

DO YOU HAVE TO SHOW THE FUCKING SOCK GAME

Innovator 08-07-2011 09:08 PM

These announcers are fantastic. I can barely tell they're fellating Schilling at the same time.

ClockShot 08-07-2011 09:33 PM

I was just reading that Posada is benched.

It looks like the end of the road.

Innovator 08-07-2011 09:36 PM

Swish cranks it...do the deepest part of the field where Ellsbury can nicely get under it. Gonna be one of those games.

Evil Vito 08-07-2011 10:38 PM

Daniel Murphy torn MCL. God dammit.

Corndad 08-07-2011 11:25 PM

How does this happen. 2 weeks ago Pirates were in first place. Now they are 10 games back. Seriously. How does that happen. You lose every game in a 7 game crucial home stand against teams with even worse records then you. Guh.

Droford 08-07-2011 11:26 PM

Was watching one of those shows where they buy a whole bunch of crap to try and sell and they got a box of baseball/footballs cards..deemed them all to be worth nothing except for an autographed "Willie May" card...but anyway I saw a Jose Bautista Baltimore Orioles card..lol

fucking Kris Benson

ugh

Emperor Smeat 08-08-2011 12:28 AM

:D Riveria blows a save to tie the game and then the Red Sox win in the 10th to go back into 1st in the East as well as winning the season series with the 10th win in 12 games.

These series always has at least 1 nail-bitter game and today was the game.

RoXer 08-08-2011 12:31 AM

was hoping it would never end

Supreme Olajuwon 08-08-2011 12:58 AM

poor Joe West was prolly popping blood vessels waiting for that game to end

Innovator 08-08-2011 06:42 AM

Bobby Valentine was saying baseball has to do something with how long the Red Sox pitchers take in between pitches. He'll be talked to definitely, he should know better than to besmirch Boston on ESPN.

The way they did it was showing how, when with Pittsburgh, he didn't load his weight to his back leg, and didn't have any leverage when he would take his stride. Because there was zero momentum, he was a punch and judy hitter who never drove his lower half of his body through his swing.

These days, he starts early, and uses that leg kick of his to shift weight to his back leg. When he strides forwards, his hips have momentum coming forward. When his front foot plants and his hips and back foot start to turn, he has a ton of torque as he swings. That's why he's tatooing the baseball everytime he gets a fat pitch over the plate.

He's always had the build and frame to hit for power. Just never put it together till now.

Pedroia can mash. I don't think he'd hit for as much power elsewhere, but he hammers line drives everywhere, and even though he swings out of his shoes, it's controlled. I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but I'd be shocked to find out he's cheating.

Vernon Wells corrected his swing. Bautista wasn't starting his swing early enough and Weels told him "start swinging so early that you think it's ridiculous", and that's basically what did it.

Triple Naitch 08-08-2011 12:57 PM

Any word in NY on when Montero is getting called? I just picked him up for fantasy.

Innovator 08-08-2011 01:11 PM

The way things are progressing, definitely before the Sept 1 expansion. Sounds like they're trying to figure out how to make room.

According to some of the NY beat writers, Chavez is being slotted into the DH spot for now. If it don't work out, Montero will the on SWB shuttle soon.

Smart move to stash him away right now will fantasy owners still can.

ClockShot 08-08-2011 01:30 PM

Tigers give manager Jim Leyland a 1-year extension. Keeping him around for the 2012 season. And GM Dave Dombrowski an extension until 2015.

One less opening for Cashman to consider.

Padres drop a slobber knocker to the Mets. That was a helluva game, especially considering the size of the ballpark.

Also, God damnit, I love David Wright's swing.

Fun game last night. Bobby Parnell sucks though. Definitely has proven he's not capable of being the "closer of the future". Way too unreliable. Guy will be nasty for 2 weeks and then get destroyed for 2 weeks. 100 MPH heat doesn't matter if it's straight down the middle.

Overall, my Citi Field record since the place opened is 2-7, yikes.

Innovator 08-11-2011 09:25 AM

I'm liking Gardner, Jeter, Grandy 1-3. I hope Girardi keeps Gardner up there when A-Rod comes back, either move Tex to 5 and Cano 6 or flip them.

In a perfect world, Cubs sweep the series, and Dan Uggla extends his hitting streak to 34. Just wanna see SOMEONE, ANYONE, get close to 56.

Nervous Ferret 08-12-2011 04:35 PM

The Uggla streak is amazing. He's still only hitting like .220 or something which is kindahilarious. He's a pretty ridiculous baseball player to begin with though

No way. The Yankees would be good without him. Their lineup is stacked enough that losing Granderson would barely be a dent in the armor, much like losing ARod has been a non issue.

Padres lost a toughie to the Reds. 5 and 3 on their road trip thus far. I have to admit, the last week or so of games have arguably been the best baseball the Padres have played, especially in the offense category.

And once again, Cameron Maybin is by far my favorite Padres player. Kid can do everything.

LOL 6 RBI's as off right now. I wonder what excuse Joe Girardi will have to not have him in the line-up regulary.

I've always thought that Girardi doesn't particularly like Posada too much, seeing as how Posada was the one who took over the Yankees' Catching position back in the day, and sent Girardi packing.

Dan Uggla has his hitting streak up to 33 games now. Tied for 20th longest all time. Hes only hitting .231 though, so I imagine he has the lowest average for that long of a streak..

Pretty crazy...only 12 games off the NL Record of 45 by Willie Keeler thats stood for 114 years.

Damian Rey 08-13-2011 08:01 PM

Posada shouldn't have his entire season worth of lowly production dimissed based off of one day. The guy has struggled all year, and, while it's always nice to see an old timer have a great game, it doesn't justify giving him an everday spot in the lineup all of a sudden.

Posada got benched because he sucked. Girardi's not an idiot. If Posada wasn't hitting a paltry .230 and could actually throw the trash out at 2nd base behind the plate, he'd be in there.

Yeah, Elias Sports Bureau definitely confirmed he's the lowest. He's come a long way from the .180 average he had near the All-Star Break.

McCann back tomorrow. Thank god. Now if Fredi might put the runner-up for ROTY last year back in the lineup...

Damian Rey 08-14-2011 12:39 AM

Fredi Gonzo's lineup creations are astounding sometimes. But they are front runners for the Wild Card, so it has somehow worked out.

And yea, the Pirates look like fools for getting nothing out of Bautista. Granted he probably would have been dealt, it would have been a boost in that lineup.

On my Padres not, the Reds beat the piss out of them.

Jack McKeon thinks Twitter is evil.

Boomer 08-14-2011 02:40 PM

Can Jason Heyward have his own hitting streak for grounding out to second base?

Aguakate 08-14-2011 03:30 PM

COME ON, UGGLA!

0-2 so far...don't drive in a run or anything, just get a hit...

Emperor Smeat 08-14-2011 03:43 PM

NESN is reporting that the Red Sox are very interested in getting Heath Bell from the Padres but also admitted the Cardinals are more likely to get him if any deal is done.

They also speculated the team would go after Reyes in the offseason or at least make him very expensive to get in a bidding war if the Yankees try to sign him.

Aguakate 08-14-2011 03:46 PM

The thing about getting Bell is that he's indicated he'd re-sign with the Padres in the offseason even if he is traded...so perhaps teams don't go full-blown after him based on the possibility of that happening.

Damian Rey 08-14-2011 04:01 PM

If the Padres move Bell, they probably will not resign him. He's put them in a corner by saying he'd accept arbitration, which could max out at $12mil. The Padres have a gaping hole for RF next year. I'd ask for Ryan Kalish. Unlikely it gets done, but you never know.

And the Marlins are idiots if Twitter is the reason Morrison got demoted.

Aguakate 08-14-2011 04:05 PM

I got a question...why is it that both times the Marlins won the WS, they broke up the teams afterward?

Triple Naitch 08-14-2011 04:07 PM

Wayne Huyzenga broke up the team after '97 because he was selling the team and wanted as little payroll possible for a potential buyer.

Emperor Smeat 08-14-2011 04:11 PM

I liked how the 2nd time the Marlins won the title in 2003, the new owner promised he wouldn't pull a 1997 and keep the team together.

He ended up gutting the team to keep payroll as low as possible.

...that's what I don't understand. They build winning teams, and then break them up...then build winning teams, and break them up...

...it's like they WANT to lose.

Triple Naitch 08-14-2011 04:21 PM

It's called winning on a budget. The A's did it too, but with less success. You let your homegrown talents develop to the point where you can compete, max out their potential, trade them at their peak, and repeat.

Yeah but in '97 they had Bobby Bonilla (love that name), Moises Alou, and a couple other guys who weren't homegrown...

...IDK...that's why they're the Marlins, I guess. Maybe once they get their own stadium things will change.
