its totally Rampage being on the A-team

Reavant 06-08-2008 06:17 PM

I actually think that the news is going to really piss me off.

Destor 06-08-2008 06:20 PM

So when is the announcement again? Thursady?

Innovator 06-08-2008 06:26 PM

can i get a little pm action Rob

James Steele 06-08-2008 06:56 PM

Floyd is going to get his ass whooped if you are implying what I think you are implying.

Crimson 06-08-2008 07:48 PM

Out of all the possibilites of the rumors the FOX tv deal would be the hugest impact.

I think Dana is gonna come out and announce a live draft for 2 UFC brand shows on FOX and spike. :|

Rob 06-08-2008 07:51 PM

I asked Dana myself on Saturday if it was a TV deal and said no. And he also told reporters after it wasn't.

Reavant 06-08-2008 09:05 PM

GUYS! Rob PMed me and said it was going to be Quinton vs MrT for the LHW belt and spot on the A Team in october

Danny Electric 06-08-2008 09:05 PM

How the hell did you get to speak to Dana White.

Innovator 06-08-2008 09:08 PM

BASPAGE, coming this fall on FOX

Bollocks I'm just saying it.

I was sitting with a guy from UFC on Sunday when got a txt from a certain wrestling/MMA writer saying it's Floyd Mayweather 100%.

And now the same guy is acting like he doesn't know in public and putting out stuff saying UFC are denying it. It was meant to be kept secret and he did a shitty job of doing it.

But yeah, it's Mayweather. And if it isn't now, I'm blaming that fucker because he told us.

The CyNick 06-09-2008 05:22 PM

I would be shocked if we ever see Mayweather in the Octagon in a fight.

I've read all kinds of stuff about this rumour. What I could see is a deal where he has something to do with UFC is terms of promotion, but I just cant see him fighting. Just cant see it.

Rob 06-09-2008 05:42 PM

He has been training MMA on the sly since Wrestlemania.

Reavant 06-09-2008 06:28 PM

Im soo pissed of if this is the damn announcement

Crimson 06-09-2008 09:07 PM

What weight class?? the superduper featherweight? The new 115lb division?

redoneja 06-10-2008 03:56 PM

I've got an opportunity to become a certified MMA referee in the state of Virginia at the end of the month. Pretty excited.

Don't suck.

McLegend 06-11-2008 05:05 PM

Word on the street is that the big announcment was actually MMA being legalized in New York.

The bill however wasn't passed as thought, and is up again for review next week.

McLegend 06-11-2008 05:06 PM

Just read this from the Observer site instead.

Quote:

What may have been Dana White's secret announcement - and it's not that big and may not happen

by Dave Meltzer

Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesOfPain.com reported today that the committee for Tourism, Arts and Sports Development in New York held a vote today to decide whether the state should regulate MMA.

According to the story, the bill was overwhelmingly voted down. Caplan reported a member of a major state athletic commission confirmed the original information and that this was the major announcement Dana White had talked about making tomorrow, which was later postponed to Tuesday.

The story said White was assured the bill would pass and the reasons the committee had a major change of heart is unknown. The story said that a committee member applied pressure after the session to get people to change their vote, and several republicans and a few democrats then attempted to change thir vote. The story said the bill will be put back on the agenda early next week, which is very unusual, and means there is a chance it could pass in time for Tuesday.

McLegend 06-11-2008 05:07 PM

I guess that could still be considered a rumor, and could still be wrong.

Still interesting though.

Rob 06-11-2008 05:24 PM

I don't see why the hell Dana White would want his employees in New York to announce something privately to them when the athletic commission would announce publicly anyway.

RP 06-11-2008 05:25 PM

Sounds like Dana White nearly blew his load early again.

Rob 06-11-2008 08:16 PM

Dana was talking about the NY thing this weekend too in public.

Crimson 06-13-2008 09:12 PM

wow, what a letdown

Rob 06-13-2008 10:21 PM

It's been held off until Tuesday.

Rob 06-13-2008 10:22 PM

Also, I'll break some other news.

The next UK card is planned for October 18 in Birmingham at the NIA.

Card is planned as...

Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami
Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin
Tyson Griffin vs. Clay Guida

I'm very happy about all of this.

Innovator 06-13-2008 11:58 PM

This can't be true. Have 3 even fought on the same show?

I don't think so. It was postponed before the second regulation hearing was scheduled for next week. Also what happens if they reject it again?

Dana has point blank told people it isn't this. Mind you, he said no to everything else and he is hardly gonna say "oh yeah that's it" if someone guesses it early.

Rob 06-15-2008 03:45 PM

Nick Diaz is a fucking moron for missing weight by fucking 8lbs but man he is a great man for building a fight.

Crimson 06-15-2008 11:57 PM

I'm very happy about all of this.

If this is true, then its a strong effort to make up for the last card in UK(which wasnt UFC's fault, but still).

Hendo-Franklin is a very interesting fight to me.

Vastardikai 06-17-2008 03:34 PM

Okami is the last person to beat Silva (because of a rule that doesn't exist in UFC, IIRC). I'm gonna say Okami might win the first round, but Silva will go into Super Spyder mode and force a tap in Round 2.

Hendo-Franklin = the goods.

Griffin-Guida should be fight of the night.

RP 06-17-2008 04:26 PM

Rob, i thought you told me Floyd Maywheather was going to UFC.

Rob 06-17-2008 04:56 PM

That's what I was told. I'll have more to say about this tomorrow.

Rob 06-17-2008 06:02 PM

Just announced (don't think this is the announcement either)

Anderson Silva v. James Irvin (at 205) and Hermes Franca vs. Frankie Edgar on July 19 on Spike TV head to head against the Affliction show. Silva isn't vacating the title and will fight at both weights.

RP 06-17-2008 06:21 PM

That could backfire so badly for UFC. I'm pretty shocked they're putting Silva in that fight. Not that Irvin is gunna win, but if he were to knock Silva out on live television, major backfire. And no, moving to 205 would not be an acceptable excuse.

James Steele 06-17-2008 06:28 PM

When the hell did Affliction start a fighting promotion? I was wondering what the hell was being mentioned earlier in the thread about an Affliction ban.

Rob 06-17-2008 06:56 PM

First show is July 19. Hell of a card lined up too.

Kris P Lettus 06-18-2008 09:57 AM

Moving Silva to 205 is ridiculous.. UFC has plenty of LHW around..

Rob, didn't you say something awhile back about WEC and UFC merging?? Is this still going to happen??

Rob 06-18-2008 12:13 PM

I asked Dana personally last week. He said the idea to make more smaller divisions and then to have everything below 155lbs in WEC and everything above in UFC so all the WEC bigger guys (Paulo Filho for example) will move to UFC.

The CyNick 06-18-2008 12:29 PM

Dana said basically the same thing in Montreal during the Q/A before UFC 83.

Although I think he said that it would be 155 and below when he was in Montreal. I thought that was wierd because I didnt think they would send BJ to WEC. But it makes more sense now with the rumours that BJ is going back to 170 to fight GSP.

If that happens, I could see them moving 155 to WEC.

Rob 06-18-2008 01:23 PM

155lbs is staying in UFC for sure.

Kris P Lettus 06-18-2008 02:13 PM

So what was the big announcement??

Did I miss something??

Rob 06-18-2008 02:20 PM

I heard what it was but I'm not opening my mouth again until it's public. What I heard was pretty big though.

Kris P Lettus 06-18-2008 02:25 PM

They were supposed to announce it last week?? And then yesterday??

What is the hold up??

Kris P Lettus 06-18-2008 02:25 PM

“I told the guys it’s a blood choke, so you don’t have to squeeze hard. So I was just kind of choking him with one arm while he’s standing up. And I told him just tap when you start to feel like you’re going to pass out. Well, he didn’t tap, and at the time I’m going wow, this guy’s pretty tough, I’m surprised he hasn’t tapped yet. He just drops to the floor in the cell. Now I’m standing there with 20 prisoners around and they’re freaking out. This guy’s laying there, snoring like crazy. I’m like ‘it’s all right, it’s all right,’ then I realize they have cameras in here. I’ve just choked this guy out in jail – I could get in trouble for this. I kept telling them, ‘he’s fine, he’s fine,’ and it took this guy a minute to wake up. Finally he woke up and we had a laugh, and luckily I didn’t get in any trouble for it. That was beginning and the ending of my inmate coaching career.”

– UFC middleweight fighter Chris Leben — who recently served an 11-day bit in Clackamas County Jail in Portland, Oregon, for a parole violation (he was also under house arrest for 25 days after his release) — tells MMAWeekly.com a little bit about the the confining experience. “The Crippler” seems to be a better man as a result and has his sights set on an August return to the Octagon. While incarcerated he had to miss a planned fight against Michael Bisping at UFC 85: “Bedlam” — perhaps that match up is still on the table for later this year.
LOL

Rob 06-18-2008 02:58 PM

That Lorenzo Fertitta is resigning from his post at the president of Station Casinos to work full-time in expanding UFC.

Fertitta is leaving a post where he was the second highest paid casion executive in Las Vegas in 2007, earning a total of $113.8 million.

Frank Fertitta III will become the man in charge of Station Casinos at CEO and retain 45% ownership in UFC, while Lorenzo Fertitta will work alongside Dana White as the co-heads of UFC.

Yeah this isn't what I was told. Blame Meltzer. He told my buddy two different stories and killed the Mayweather one the day after he told him. I saw the txts msgs myself.

McLegend 06-18-2008 06:53 PM

So I guess Lorenzo Fertitta is gonna do contract negotiations, beucase that's obviously not Dana's strong suite?

Rob 06-19-2008 03:40 AM

I love how a fighter with a 0-0 pro record is making his debut in the Ultimate Fighter tournament final! :D This is sooooo awesome. Go on Amir.

But he's a complete moron who doesn't deserve to be there no matter if he won those fights or not. He's an idiot.

Rob 06-19-2008 04:05 PM

Bullshit. That punishment was too harsh. He does deserve to be there too because he beat 3 guys to do it. CB Dollaway lost a fight and is in the final. HE doesn't deserve to be there.

weather vane 06-19-2008 04:31 PM

Yeah I can safely say that A LOT of UFC fighters have done worse then what JT Money did. He did not deserve to be kicked off the show AT ALL. Hell I have done worse then him. He was in Vegas with a bunch of his friends, drinking ... what did they expect to happen?

RP 06-19-2008 04:51 PM

Chris Leben is easily one of my top 5 favorite fighters. Nick Diaz is there too.

Stickman 06-19-2008 04:55 PM

I think Dana did the right thing. He did tell the guy that he's not ready yet and he's right, at the end of their meeting Dana did say "call me in a few months". That leaves the door open down the road, but he deserved to be punished.
What punishment do you think would fit?

Rob 06-19-2008 06:13 PM

Er... nothing. It's none of Dana's fucking business what fighters do in their own lives. In the house, it's his rules. Outside the house, FUCK DANA.

Stickman 06-19-2008 06:31 PM

RVD and Sabu getting pulled over and charged with pot possession isn't any of Vince MacMahon's business?

Stickman 06-19-2008 06:32 PM

Going around acting like an idiot telling people you're a UFC fighter isn't Dana's business?

Rob 06-19-2008 06:45 PM

1 - As independent contractors, it was none of Vince McMahon's business when RVD got pulled over. And he wasn't even charged so how is that a big deal. If I get arrested, my work doesn't punish me.

2 - Nope.

When you aren't on the clock, it ain't your bosses business. FACT.

Stickman 06-19-2008 06:57 PM

Usually I agree with you but here I disagree.

The guy fucked up. I'm sure he'll be in the UFC one day but he deserved to be punished here. I wouldn't be suprised if Dana kept the guy out of jail.

You say, "When you aren't on the clock, it ain't your bosses business. FACT." And that I understand but the line is kind of fuzzy. If you make your bosses company look bad outside of company hours it's his business. Rampage even said to Dana on the show, "You dont' want a guy like that in your company." And I'm sure he didn't say that hoping CB would get chosen to fight in the finale.

No matter what line of work you're in, if you embarass your employeer expect repercussions.

Rob 06-19-2008 06:58 PM

If it was anyone other than Jesse or Amir, this discussion wouldn't even be taking place.

Stickman 06-19-2008 07:14 PM

True, because nobody else was going to big dance.

Rob 06-19-2008 07:56 PM

Like 4 or 5 guys are fighting on that show other than the finalists. Anyways, I see your point. I just don't agree with it. Only opinion that counts anyway is Dana's and he made his clear.

weather vane 06-19-2008 08:37 PM

It's bullshit.

Rob 06-20-2008 03:46 AM

I just think it's weird how they let people smash the house and show people pissing their pants twice on TV and that's ok but kick in a window costs you a job.

Innovator 06-20-2008 10:42 AM

I think the window was the least of what he did, verbally abusing women in a hotel and getting into it with security, all while saying you're "a UFC fighter, don't you know who i am" was what cost him his spot

he did that in the house not in public. Cops couldnt come after him in the house. Although Im sure he had to pay for all the damage he did.

Rob 06-20-2008 11:41 AM

I bet you he didn't pay for shit.

And they never called the cops on him out of town either.

Reavant 06-20-2008 12:52 PM

well id be interested to see if there were any reprocussions for what he did to the house... and regardless of whether cops were involved with what he did after the show, people outside the ufc were. Which if they were so inclined could have gotten the cops involved.

Rob 06-20-2008 07:26 PM

Others trashed the house a lot more than Jesse did.

Reavant 06-21-2008 12:24 AM

OK... id be interested to see if they were all fined or whatever is what i meant.... anyway, I talked to gideon ray at practice today and he was saying that the producers tell the guys to fuck up the house.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-21-2008 12:27 AM

Yeah I was gonna say that. They seem to fuck it up once a season, so I'm sure the show tells them something like that. "alright guys, have fun and destroy the house, it'll be good tv".

Reavant 06-21-2008 12:35 AM

yea he was goin on and on today. He has a ton of stories. he said that they wont get them healthy food all the time when they request it, but if theres any alcohol they want at all its there in a drop of a hat. The house is all paid for so theres no penalty for destruction and they tell you to fuck it up. They dont wash the mats or equipment. He said that there hasnt been a single season of the show where a guy wasnt seriously hospitalized after for staph. They wouldnt let him shower after his fight with deweese right away because they wanted to interview him and he was about to vomit everywhere because hes a germaphobe. He also had some cool stories about smith, shonnie carter and spratt.

Reavant 06-21-2008 12:35 AM

I doubt that. Any fighter out there ain't gonna refuse one of the biggest breaks of their careers.

And there ain't gonna be an Ultimate Fighter show for much longer anyway.

McLegend 06-21-2008 12:55 PM

Yeah they gotta stop the show for like a year or two. It's gotten mad old.

Rob 06-21-2008 02:03 PM

It's either being canned or seriously revamped. It will be over in it's current format after the next season with Nog and Mir.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-21-2008 02:17 PM

I'd almost like to see them keep the format for the way and when the fights work, but instead of making them live in the house, send a camera crew out to two camps who have THEIR guys as contestants. They'd need to mend fences with Xtreme Couture though for me to give a shit about it.

Rob 06-21-2008 03:50 PM

Never gonna happen this way. The average fan wants to see the personalities, not the gym work and the fights.

Plus the level of fighter on the show now is very below par with the odd exception.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-21-2008 03:57 PM

Yeah, I know. I just think it would be sick to watch camps square off with one another. Do something where whichever camp generates the winner of the show, they're on the next season or whatever against another camp. Could generate tons of revenue for the individual camps as well. Would be sick.

And yeah, I know it's not gonna happen. Just my own little dream world.

Rob 06-21-2008 04:07 PM

Kim Couture got bashed all over the shop last night. Lost her debut fight 30-27 on scorecards and a broken nose to boot.

RP 06-21-2008 10:07 PM

I so tired of fighters practically making love to eachother in the ring after they finish fighting. Fuck that shit.

RP 06-21-2008 11:15 PM

I'm rooting for Tanner to win for 2 reasons. 1) I dont think i can stomach him getting dominated again and then the possibility that he'll go fall off the wagon. 2) Kendal Grove is such waste of talent. That guy should have been knocking on Anderson Silva's door by now. And i wanna see him get the shit eating grin submitted off his face.

RP 06-21-2008 11:54 PM

I hope UFC give Evan Tanner some sort of job. Or atleast extends a position in the company doing something. Something to keep him busy. I hope they dont just throw him out after this loss.
