Unlike with the original Xbox and similar to Sony's long term plans with their Playstation line, Microsoft announces they will continue to support the Xbox 360 for at least another 5 years once Xbox One is launched.

For comparisons, the Xbox was essentially killed off by Microsoft once the Xbox 360 was released. Nintendo usually gives around an extra year of support once a new system is released.

We'll see.

The Playstation 2 saw a lot of love for quite some time after it was considered obsolete. Hell, it was only a couple of years back that they stopped making WWE games for it.

Next-gen thriving isn't a given. While I'm betting it will happen eventually, there's a lot to contend with. This goes doubly if we see the kind of shit MS has pulled on a wider scale.

That's true, I was still buying WWE games for my PS2 until late 2007.

I suppose another factor to consider is the limited size of 360 discs, if everything else is on bluray, playing 360 games will be like swapping out Monkey Island discs on an amiga.

I want XBox One to fail, so all the bad things about it people are saying should make me happy but I feel like it's not going to be as bad as people think it will. Everything about the system sounds retarded, but I don't think the developers are really that stupid. Also, there's plenty of time before it's released to change all the things that people are complaining about.

Assuming we need that much extra space, yes. Then again, most of the BD games that are significantly larger use things like lossless audio that most gamers don't need or even necessarily want.
