Evening round-up (from mlbtraderumors.com):

Signings and annoucements galore today. Let's get to it.

Gertner, along with Darren Oliver, they also sign Aaron Laffey to a deal.

Yankees take back Andruw Jones for another season. 1-year, $2 mil. with $1.4 mil. in in incentives. He's the 4th outfielder yet again.

Cubs sign cuban prospects Yasiel Balaguert and Carlos Martinez.

Mariners officially sign George Sherrill to a 1-year, $1.1 mil. deal with incentives.

ClockShot 12-31-2011 03:22 PM

Padres aquire Carlos Quentin from the White Sox for pitching prospects Simon Castro and Pedro Hernandez.

ClockShot 01-01-2012 02:49 PM

Kenny Williams is having a fire sale in Chicago no pun intended.

Blue Jays aquire Jason Frasor from the White Sox for pitchers Myles Jaye and Daniel Webb.

Aguakate 01-01-2012 04:04 PM

Both Chicago teams seem to be in rebuilding mode.

DaveWadding 01-01-2012 04:10 PM

Aguakate is very perceptive.

Aguakate 01-01-2012 04:13 PM

Yeah, yet you're not, since you didn't catch the sarcasm with which I wrote what I did. It happens.

BTW...when is Jerry going to fire Kenny Williams? He's got to have the longest leash ever.

Triple Naitch 01-01-2012 04:28 PM

Winning a World Series with a nothing team buys you some time.

Aguakate 01-01-2012 05:48 PM

Yeah but he was there before Ozzie, and he's gone.

Damian Rey 01-01-2012 07:46 PM

Kenny Williams, I think, will be out the door soon. While he's picking up minor leaguers, none of them seem to be top prospect types. Not to mention, handing Danks that fat contract doesn't make sense in rebuild mode. Add to that the fact that his owner cheapens out on the draft every year, which handcuffs his GM when trying to trade for established players, and it just looks like the writing is on the wall.

Gertner 01-02-2012 05:33 PM

lol christ, Jason " Tweek" Frasor is back convulsing in the 8th inning for Toronto.

Droford 01-03-2012 09:10 PM

Os got Jai Miller from the A's.

all together now!

JAI WHO?

ClockShot 01-03-2012 10:17 PM

Evening round-up:

A boat load of signings today. I'll just name the big ones.

Rangers aquire Brandon Snyder from the O's for cash.

Red Sox sign Carlos Silva to a minor league gig.

Coco Crisp stays with the A's. 2-years, $14 mil.

Cubs sign Reed Johnson. 1-year, $1.15 mil.

Jo-Jo Reyes to the Pirates on a minor league gig.

Edwin Jackson wants a 5-year deal and $15-17 million per. Mind you Scott Boras is his agent.

Mariners are the frontrunners for Hisashi Iwakuma.

Yu Darvish is in Dallas this week to try to get a deal together with the Rangers. Both sides are far apart in talks. He'll fly back to Japan at the end of the week to start offseason workouts. January 17th is the deadline.

Finally, it's unlikely the Yankees are going to sign Hiroyuki Nakajima. The deadline for that deal is this Friday at 4 Central time. Yankees see him as a bench guy and want to pay him bench player money.

Evil Vito 01-04-2012 12:51 AM

Edwin Jackson wants a 5-year deal and $15-17 million per.

RP 01-04-2012 12:55 AM

Pretty stunned Reed Johnson could only get 1 .15 mil. That's the type of player that's on championship teams.

Can't believe they're back on this trade and they want to replace Adam Jones with Coco fucking Crisp just to get Jurrjens and Prado.

Lol if that's true. If they could get Prado and Jurrgens and they don't, wow. But is Jones really worth that much? No.

Droford 01-04-2012 01:45 AM

I cant even imagine getting psyched up every night to see Coco Crisp in CF.

ugh

Triple Naitch 01-04-2012 09:36 AM

Crisp already agreed to re-sign in Oakland. He's not going to be involved in trade talks.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-04-2012 02:06 PM

I don't have any news to talk about, but I just wanted to let you all know that Francisco Cordero's agent's name is Bean Stringfellow.

And frankly, I think that's neat.

screech 01-04-2012 02:21 PM

That is neat.

Joe Torre quits his job with MLB in order to join a new group placing their bid to buy the Dodgers.

the rumor was the Os would Send Chris Davis and a prospect to Oakland for Crisp.

Triple Naitch 01-04-2012 07:27 PM

Yeah, but why would Crisp agree to a deal only to be traded in a matter of hours? Surely the Player's Union would have a problem with it.

Evil Vito 01-04-2012 08:14 PM

Probably the biggest move that was bound to happen this offseason.

ClockShot 01-04-2012 08:31 PM

If Big Z goes to Miami, I sure hope he don't blow up that brand spankin' new stadium the Marlins just built. Can't recall how many times he went ballistic in Wrigleyville.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-04-2012 08:34 PM

Hanley, Ozzie, and Chubby Z in the same clubhouse. Love it.

Triple Naitch 01-04-2012 08:48 PM

Don't forget the token white guy, Logan Morrison.

Evil Vito 01-04-2012 09:01 PM

Apparently Selig encouraged and asked Torre to quit and try to buy the Dodgers...much like he encouraged Sandy Alderson to leave his job with MLB to be the Mets GM. Kinda interesting how Selig tries to use his guys to bail out troubled franchises.

This is Selig's last year on the job before retirement. Holding out hope that he takes the Mets from the Wilpons before he leaves.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-04-2012 09:12 PM

Yeah, and maybe he'll let Pete come back too! :)

Nervous Ferret 01-04-2012 09:28 PM

Hope Zambrano rages on the fucking aquarium that will be where a normal backstop should be

Mets bring back Scott Hairston. Fine by me, they needed a righty outfield option off the bench...even if he is a bit of a homer-or-nothing guy.

World Series here we come!

The talks for Jones remain 'fluid', according to sources, although it appears the two sides cannot agree on which pitching prospects to include along with Martin Prado or Jair Jurrjens. Should the Braves acquire a top-tier pitching prospect from Colorado, they could potentially flip him to Baltimore to acquire the talented-yet-unproductive outfielder. It sounds like that may be GM Frank Wren's goal right now, especially if Ken Rosenthal's report of a desired pitching prospect is true.
I dont want to see Adam Jones go, but if they can rape the Braves for two of their top pitching prospects plus Jurrjens and/or Prado then they might as well go ahead and do it.

Also, "talented but unproductive" lol...

SammyG 01-05-2012 10:26 PM

lol @ Marlins, team Latinos

Triple Naitch 01-05-2012 11:04 PM

Pretty sure every team is team Latinos.

Emperor Smeat 01-05-2012 11:10 PM

I think even the Marlins owner stated before that was his goal to fill the team with Latinos in order to make the fans come to the stadium considering every other trick never worked for the long term.

Even the years the actually won WS titles, they barely had anyone showing up except for the playoffs.

Tampa Bay has the same problem although not as laughable bad as the Marlins. Then again Florida isn't really a sports spot except for college football and the Miami Dolphins.

Hardkore Kidd J 01-06-2012 03:56 PM

Anthony Rizzo headed to the Cubs in a 4 player deal that sends Rizzo and Zach Catas to the Cubs for Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na.
