I guess Brian Cashman had his balls cut off. Was just reading a piece that all deals had to get approval from the front office. Which sucks because he's supposed to be his own boss to a degree.

Times like this I wish George was around.

The Condor 12-06-2012 07:47 PM

I'll take Reynolds and trade the K's for my personal Youk dislike. Better power in Yankees Stadium too.

ClockShot 12-06-2012 08:17 PM

Evening update:

Phillies close out the Winter Meetings by aquiring Ben Revere from the Twins for Vance Worley and Trevor May.

Braves sign Reed Johnson

James Loney signs with the Rays. 1-year, $2 mil. + $1 mil. in incentives.

Boston keeps spending away. Koji Uehara signs for 1-year, $4.25 mil.

That's the major news for the time being. Stay tuned to see if FackYouk goes home or goes to the enemy, Zack Greinke gets anxiety meds included in his deal, and if this 4-team super trade has a pulse and can top the Great Boston Bailout.

The Condor 12-06-2012 08:26 PM

Greinke on any LA team is the only way he could pitch in a major market. As The Dude opined about Smokey, he's fragile, he's very fragile.

Emperor Smeat 12-06-2012 09:23 PM

Think its possible he could play in a Chicago market although probably only as a White Sox player. Cubs media would probably rip him to shreds.

Only reason LA has worked out for him is due to the Angels only being an LA team in name only and not as an actual big market team. Would have been a lot different had gone to the Dodgers first.

Anything that helps out the dreadful bullpen of the last 2 years is always great. He'd replace Aceves as the main setup man while Aceves either gets traded is kept for depth.

Bean is different. He made a huge discovery and he used it to gain an advantage over other teams. Now that other teams have added his philosophyto their repetouir, he is once again limited by his budget. His model used in its purest form gets you the Seattle Mariners. What has he won as a gm if he is so great? He's had lots of opportunity to gm in a city with a larger budget but he is content where he is. Which menas he isn't a winner.

Really dissapointed that no one followed up on my post.

*cracks knuckles*

Reds suck and so does the state of Ohio in general. I don't know who tripple naitch roots for but I'm guessing they suck as well.

Triple Naitch 12-07-2012 09:36 AM

No need to fish for arguments. You are entitled to your opinion.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 02:22 PM

It's not am argument, its a discussion. I want to know what you think. You have an opinion on my opinion I'm sure, and I want to know what it is.

I always leave open the possibility I might be wrong when it comes to my own thoughts and beliefs and I enjoy other trains of thought as long as proper logic can be provided to support it.

Not to mention its fun to debate. That's one of two reasons why Baseball is the greatest sport.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 02:47 PM

Or we could just have the thread be boring updates that everyone else can see at mlbtraderumors with the occasional random reply.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 02:49 PM

Before I get back to the snark, my 1,000th post will be the other reason why Baseball is the greatest sport:

Baseball is everyday.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 02:50 PM

Red Sox aquire Graham Godfrey.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 02:54 PM

Wow! The Red Sox could really use Graham Godfr......zzzzzzzzzz.

The Condor 12-07-2012 03:14 PM

I feel that Hamilton going to NYY, while I would support it, would be a publicized human experiment to test Hamiltons will power and discipline.

4 years ago I thought James Loney was a building block type player. Not a ton of power but just an all around baller.

Sad to see he fell off :( Really thouight out of the Kemp, Loney, Ethier class of young dodgers that he would be the best.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 04:01 PM

While I never thought loney would be better than the other two, I did think he had the chance to be a john olerud/wally joyner/mark grace type. In other words, a very under valued guy.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 04:03 PM

It does give me hope that the rays signed him. I always think they know something the rest of the league dosent. Then again I thought the same about another 1B, Brandon Allen.

Hanso Amore 12-07-2012 04:18 PM

They salvaged Pena into a major threat, maybe this is good for Loney.

would love to see him have a good year and earn a new deal.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 04:57 PM

I wouldn't say they made him into a major threat last year. His whole deal is Adam Dunn light (Fewer homers, slightly worse obp, but great glove, historically speaking anyway) and he had his worst season in quite some time last year. The 330 obp dosent cut it unless you hit 40 bombs. Like Dunn, he's got old slow man skills which means he likely washes out sooner than later. I wouldn't be surprised if he's done, but someone should take a flyer on him.

Hanso Amore 12-07-2012 05:06 PM

I didnt mean just least year.

Pena was on his way out of the majors until he took off in Tampa 5 or so years ago.

Frank Drebin 12-07-2012 05:10 PM

Ah I see what you mean.

Always found it funny that in the Moneyball movie they make a huge deal out of dealing Pena when it turns out he's a moneyball type player anyway.

Hanso Amore 12-07-2012 05:11 PM

Speaking of Dunn, IF he can hang in the majors for 3-4 more years he can easily hit 500 homers....Wow.

I was thinking the same thing. Though as a prospect he wasnt a moneyball guy, he was the high money high talent top pick guy.

Then He flames out and ends up driving Tampa to the top for no money.

Hmmm. Didn't realize that but not surprised since he seemed to hit 40 routinely for so long there. Not a hall of famer by any stretch though.

RoXer 12-07-2012 07:56 PM

Brandon McCarthy

RoXer 12-07-2012 07:57 PM

I can't remember which of my favorite team's players are on which team.

It's a big blur.

And he's still never been in a home run derby

The Condor 12-08-2012 11:43 AM

That is something I've always wanted to see, because he can crank them with the best. I remember a shot he had to dead center in Cincinnatti that was about 500ft. and it was pretty damn cool. The Big Donkey is definitely country strong.

Emperor Smeat 12-08-2012 02:26 PM

Ryan Ludwick staying with the Reds for another 2 years, $15 million deal.

Ryan Dempster rejects a 2 year, $25 million offer from the Red Sox and a 2 year, $26 million offer from the Royals. He wants 3 years as a minimum with the Cubs and Brewers willing to give him it.

Phillies rejected a trade with the Red Sox which would have sent Jacoby Ellsbury to the Phillies in return for Cliff Lee to the Red Sox.

Evil Vito 12-08-2012 02:41 PM

Making the rounds that Michael Young has agreed to waive his no-trade clause to go to Philadelphia. Financial details still being worked out but a deal looks likely now.

The Condor 12-08-2012 02:47 PM

That's a nice pick up for the Phil's if its going to happen. Ludwick sticking with the Reds is also an underrated signing. He's very good for them.

I guess. Not a fan of Young, but again, there are so few 3B out there right now. I don't like the idea that you are basically hoping that his BAIBP goes back up to provide the value with the bat. Not a HR threat, not a speed guy, and a poor defender.....he makes contact, but needs to get lucky. Not a bad deal, but like I said, not big on the guy.

Michael Young agrees to trade to Phillies

After 13 seasons and more than 1,800 games – the entirety of his big-league career – in a single organization, Michael Young agreed Saturday to waive his no-trade rights and leave the Texas Rangers for the Philadelphia Phillies.

With his permission, Young has been traded to the Phillies for reliever Josh Lindblom and minor-league right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla, and become their primary third baseman. The Rangers are expected to pay as much as $10 million of Young’s $16 million salary for 2013.

[....] http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/mich...195813165.html
Young will receive an extra $1.2 million to cover the difference in state income tax.

Frank Drebin 12-08-2012 05:10 PM

I'm sure Dempster will find someone to give him a three year deal at some point but he's gonna have to wait for the dominos to fall. He left the cubs in such a shit way. He can shove that clown suit up his ass.

Frank Drebin 12-08-2012 05:24 PM

Supposed to be a nice guy though.

Damian Rey 12-08-2012 07:54 PM

Agree with Frank on the Young trade. He's also 36, and his best years are behind him. I don't get this move at all. Good move for Texas, though, as it frees up some payroll and possibly gives Olt a shot on the 25 man.

ClockShot 12-08-2012 08:57 PM

Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Dodgers are far apart in trade talks and the 30 day negotiation window closes at 5 ET tomorrow. At the same time, they're supposedly close to signing Greinke.

Let's play "How much money does Hyun-Jin Ryu want?"

I'm gonna say 5-years, $77.5 mil. C.J. Wilson money.

Evil Vito 12-08-2012 09:11 PM

The Dodgers' offer to Greinke is 6 years, $145 million.

$24 million a year. A guy like King Felix will probably get like $30 million a year at this point.

Emperor Smeat 12-08-2012 09:26 PM

Dodgers over splurged for Greinke considering his new per year salary would almost be doubled what he got last year.

Really makes it seems like those rumors of them not having to worry about normal revenue sharing and a huge secret stash of cash would actually be true.
